“Never in the field of human conflict, has so much been owed by so many, to so few!” ~ British Prime Minister, Winston Churchill about WWII

This Painting History Collection by Phyllis Miller celebrates art, history, and the human spirit. In 2005, Phyllis traveled across Europe to pay homage to those who fought in WWII for our freedom.

In 2019, Phyllis retired from Nova Southeastern University at age 82. Soon after, the COVID pandemic hit, and Phyllis was completely isolated. That’s when painting became her purpose and she created more than 30 works of art from her 2005 trip. Each piece of artwork is accompanied by a story she researched and wrote to provide historical context. This body of work resulted in the creation of her book, “Painting History, A Collection of Artwork and Stories by Phyllis Miller,” to document history for her family. While her purpose is to educate, copies of her work and book are available for purchase.

Phyllis invites you to come see her Painting History Collection.

TOM FRIEL

I am a Midwest based artist known for my prints using a digital program as tool to design and display my creative thoughts. My artwork encompasses the use of multi-layering of photos, colors, textures, and patterns.

Creativity has its roots in following my instincts. It is a spontaneous process and one that is perpetually changing. I am inspired by my love for photography, gardening, and nature.

I want my prints to invoke curiosity and emotion within the viewer.

CHRISTINA WALTON

In the midst of the Covid lockdowns, when the whole world stood still and normal life faded away, I found solace in my art. I’ve been creating my entire life but I got more serious during these periods of isolation as I searched for any connection or purpose and I found it in painting. What started as a small pastime has quickly become my passion, an essential part of my life even as the surrounding world has regained its rhythm.

As I became more serious with my art I tried to find the reason why I loved it so much and discovered that my creations often revolve around the themes of growth and heavy emotion. Both things I feel like I’m always trying to do or work through. Either through blooming flowers that have pushed through their hardship and become beautiful or the solitary figures that have been completely engulfed by their emotions and are unable to move forward, I try my best to capture the human experience and the ever-changing landscape of our emotions.

The center of my motivation stems from a need to express my emotions in one of the only ways I’ve learned how. I’m most inspired to create during intense moments of my life, using my art as a medium to channel and process what I’m feeling, be it negative or positive. Through the act of creation, I find clarity, leaving whatever was holding me down on the easel.

While I may not create with a specific audience in mind, I envision my work resonating most deeply with those who appreciate the unconventional and the thought-provoking. For me, art is not just about aesthetics; it’s for self-discovery and connection, an invitation to explore the depths of emotion and imagination.

As I step into this new chapter of my artistic journey, I am filled with gratitude for the opportunity to share my voice with the world, one piece at a time.
