As we reflect on 2024, I am thrilled to share the incredible progress and achievements that have shaped our community this year. It has been truly a transformative year for Cedar Park, marked by significant developments and milestones that have brought us closer together and enriched our city.
One of the most exciting highlights of 2024 was the grand opening of our new Cedar Park Public Library in the Bell District. This state-of-the-art facility quickly became a cherished hub for learning, community events, and cultural activities. Its innovative design and extensive resources have opened new doors for education and engagement. With over 100,000 visitors in just six weeks, our community’s new front porch has swiftly become a cornerstone of our city.
In addition to the Library, we have made remarkable strides in other areas. The groundbreaking on the future Public Safety Joint Training Facility will enhance our emergency preparedness and response capabilities. This joint facility will serve our Police, Fire, and Emergency Management teams, ensuring they are well-equipped to handle any situation.
The Northwest New Hope Project (NFM) has been another major development, transforming the area west of the H-E-B Center at Cedar Park on New Hope Road into a future regional destination. This project includes Nebraska Furniture Mart, Scheels, a full-service hotel, a City-owned conference center, and additional commercial developments. Site work commenced this year, with Scheels expected to open in late 2026 and Phase 1 construction planned completion by 2028.
Another critical infrastructure project that began was the New Hope Drive Expansion and Intersection Improvements. This initiative will expand New Hope Drive from four to six lanes between Blockhouse Drive and CR 180 and implement an innovative intersection at New Hope and 183A. Construction began in late 2024 and is expected to take 2.5 years to complete.
Our commitment to pedestrian safety was also reflected in intersection and pedestrian safety improvements. Phase 1 of the Safe Crossing Projects began in 2024, with Phase 2 funding included in the Community Development (Type B) Corporation FY 25 Budget. Finally, the Brushy Creek North Fork Trail, a new 3-mile trail connecting neighborhoods to the existing Brushy Creek Regional Trail, is set to open in early 2025.
Throughout the year, we’ve also taken moments to unwind, make memories, and savor time with family and friends by celebrating numerous events that brought joy and togetherness to Cedar Park. From the spectacular July 4th Celebration and our award-winning National Night Out event to close-knit engaging programs like Family Storytime and the Makerspace programs, our community spirit has shone brightly.
These projects and events represent our collective effort to make Cedar Park an even better place to live, work, and play. As we look forward to 2025, I am excited about the continued positive impact these developments will have on our city. Thank you for your continued support and involvement in our community.
