Farm safety is a topic that is receiving a significant amount of media and public attention right now. Farmers and ranchers know that there are health and safety risks associated with their work and some of these risks are a result of handling livestock. We were reminded of these risks with the unfortunate passing last month of
John Earle Paterson of Colinton, who was killed by a bull during semen testing on his operation. Earle was a strong supporter of the cattle industry who understood the importance of having a single organization working on behalf of all cattle producers. We appreciate Earle’s support of our organization and we offer our sincere condolences to the Paterson family. ABP wants to remind producers to be aware of safety and be very careful when they are working with cattle. As producers get older and less agile, it is even more important to consider safety during all livestock handling operations.
