Program Description

The legal office administrative assistant is an essential part of today’s law office team and this credential addresses the educational needs of students seeking employment in this area of study. This program trains the learner in legal office procedures, legal terminology, court systems, legal record keeping, bookkeeping, billing clients and the preparation, filing and service of legal documents in the areas of wills and estates, family law, litigation, corporate law, and real estate. In addition the learner will become proficient in keyboarding, law accounting software, and a variety of computer programs.

This unique part-time, distance education program has been designed to prepare students for employment in academic, public, school and special libraries and other information service settings through a carefully designed program of studies that combines theory and hands-on field placement.

Certificate Requirements • 19 years of age OR • Ontario Secondary School Diploma OR • Grade 12 equivalency certificate achieved through College academic upgrading • All course requirements must be completed within five years • A minimum of 25% of the courses must be completed through Durham College • Overall average of 60% or a GPA of 2.0

Diploma Requirements

• All course requirements must be completed within 10 years • A minimum of 25% of the courses must be completed through Durham College • Overall average of 60% or a GPA of 2.0 • Clear Criminal Reference Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening
