SOCIAL ACTIVITIES

INTERNATIONAL STUDENT SUPPORT Our International Team is here to make it as easy as possible for you to settle in to City College and for you to enjoy your time in the UK. We offer a caring environment and a range of services that include help and guidance in finding the right course, preparing you for your move to the UK, visa and immigration advice and accommodation in Brighton.

ON ARRIVAL

At City College we know that moving to a new country and starting at a new school is a fun and exciting time. We are also aware that sometimes students might feel a little anxious. We are here to assist our new students to settle in quickly, both academically and socially. All our students will have an induction on their first day. During induction you will have the chance to familiarize yourself with all College facilities, find out about what to do in Brighton, meet the International Team and make new friends!

AIRPORT PICK-UP SERVICE

We offer a transfer service to collect you from the airport upon arrival. City College uses a reliable local taxi service; one of the drivers will be waiting for you in the arrivals lounge holding a sign with your name on it, ready to take you to your accommodation. (See our price list).

WELFARE ADVICE

The International Student Officer is here to help you throughout your time at college with any nonacademic issues, no matter how big or small. These can range from renewing your visa and police registration to opening a bank account or dealing with personal issues. We provide one-toone support to help you deal with any problems you might encounter during your stay with us.

ACADEMIC ADVICE

We can help you with advice at every stage of your application as well as guidance throughout your course of study. We can also advise you on your academic progression once you have completed your course here, whether you want to stay at City College or if you want to continue your studies at a university in the UK. We can help you choose the right course and university and assist with the UCAS application process.

City College offers a wide variety of enrichment activities for both UK and International students, designed to make the most of your time with us. By joining these activities you will be able to meet other international and UK students. The programme will include activities such as a Higher Education Fair, International Students Day, Diversity Week and Talent Shows. There are many College events going on throughout the year: Beauty shows, fashion shows, performances and gigs. The International team also organises events specifically for our International Students, such as trips in the UK and Europe, afternoon outings to local cultural and natural attractions and social evening activities.

INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS UNDER 18

In England, you do not legally become an adult until your 18th birthday. Parents and guardians are responsible for your welfare until this age. If you are under 18 when you start your course at CIty College, your parent(s) must appoint a guardian in the UK - ideally someone who lives near to Brighton and Hove.

INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS WITH LEARNING DIFFICULTIES AND DISABILITIES

We welcome applications from students with learning difficulties and disabilities. Applicants are encouraged to contact the College in advance if they feel they may need extra support. If you would like to discuss any disability issues, please contact our international team for advice.

City College also offers a range of sport activities, which include Badminton, Volleyball and Hockey sessions. Getting involved in sport activities will help you meet UK students and make friends outside of your classroom.

VISA ADVICE

If you require a visa, you should make your visa application as soon as possible. Once you have been accepted on one of our courses we will issue you with a Confirmation of Acceptance for Study (CAS) or visa letter which you will need, along with financial statements for your visa application. Our team can advise you on what visa you should apply for and can offer help during the application stage. We can also provide visa renewal support and advice once you are studying with us.

CAREERS ADVICE

City College has a dedicated careers team who offer a free service open to all students. They provide careers advice, help with CV writing and interview technique training. They can support you in finding part-time work (if allowed by your visa) and discuss your future employment plans. www.ccb.ac.uk
