BRIGHTON & HOVE Brighton is one of Europe’s most vibrant cities and is famous for its elegant historic architecture, exciting nightlife and varied arts and cultural scene. Brighton is located on the south coast of England, less than an hour from London. It offers a unique mixture of beach, city and countryside. It is often described as ‘Little London by the sea’ but unlike the UK’s capital it is stress-free and easy to walk around. Throughout the year you can enjoy many of the festivals and events which take place in the city, explore the surrounding countryside or simply relax on the beach with friends. This English course is available at different levels. On all courses you will study in a fun, communicative environment to improve your English language level. Your teachers will engage you in a range of lesson activities focussing on speaking, listening, reading and writing. You will also review and learn grammatical structures, work on widening your range of active vocabulary and improve your English pronunciation. All of these will give you the confidence to communicate effectively in real-life situations.

With over 20 years’ experience of working in the international arena, we can offer employers and overseas institutions a range of both standard programmes and bespoke solutions for all your training needs.

Students improved their English whilst learning the key differences between Business and Marketing in the UK compared to their home country. The programme focused on a project where the students had to market a product from their home country into the UK. Each group presented their ideas in front of a panel of experts who offered them business advice.

2 WEEK QUALITY ASSURANCE FOR COLLEGE LEADERSHIP The programme was designed to cover all aspects of strategic leadership and incorporated sessions on Quality Assurance, Curriculum Development, Staff Development, Use of ICT and Multimedia, Work based learning and Employer Engagement. INTERNATIONAL STUDENT SUPPORT Our International Team is here to make it as easy as possible for you to settle in to City College and for you to enjoy your time in the UK. We offer a caring environment and a range of services that include help and guidance in finding the right course, preparing you for your move to the UK, visa and immigration advice and accommodation in Brighton.

ON ARRIVAL

At City College we know that moving to a new country and starting at a new school is a fun and exciting time. We are also aware that sometimes students might feel a little anxious. We are here to assist our new students to settle in quickly, both academically and socially. All our students will have an induction on their first day. During induction you will have the chance to familiarize yourself with all College facilities, find out about what to do in Brighton, meet the International Team and make new friends!

AIRPORT PICK-UP SERVICE

We offer a transfer service to collect you from the airport upon arrival. City College uses a reliable local taxi service; one of the drivers will be waiting for you in the arrivals lounge holding a sign with your name on it, ready to take you to your accommodation. (See our price list).

WELFARE ADVICE

The International Student Officer is here to help you throughout your time at college with any nonacademic issues, no matter how big or small. These can range from renewing your visa and police registration to opening a bank account or dealing with personal issues. We provide one-toone support to help you deal with any problems you might encounter during your stay with us.

ACADEMIC ADVICE

We can help you with advice at every stage of your application as well as guidance throughout your course of study. We can also advise you on your academic progression once you have completed your course here, whether you want to stay at City College or if you want to continue your studies at a university in the UK. We can help you choose the right course and university and assist with the UCAS application process.

City College offers a wide variety of enrichment activities for both UK and International students, designed to make the most of your time with us. By joining these activities you will be able to meet other international and UK students. The programme will include activities such as a Higher Education Fair, International Students Day, Diversity Week and Talent Shows. There are many College events going on throughout the year: Beauty shows, fashion shows, performances and gigs. The International team also organises events specifically for our International Students, such as trips in the UK and Europe, afternoon outings to local cultural and natural attractions and social evening activities.

INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS UNDER 18

In England, you do not legally become an adult until your 18th birthday. Parents and guardians are responsible for your welfare until this age. If you are under 18 when you start your course at CIty College, your parent(s) must appoint a guardian in the UK - ideally someone who lives near to Brighton and Hove.

INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS WITH LEARNING DIFFICULTIES AND DISABILITIES

We welcome applications from students with learning difficulties and disabilities. Applicants are encouraged to contact the College in advance if they feel they may need extra support. If you would like to discuss any disability issues, please contact our international team for advice.

City College also offers a range of sport activities, which include Badminton, Volleyball and Hockey sessions. Getting involved in sport activities will help you meet UK students and make friends outside of your classroom.

VISA ADVICE

If you require a visa, you should make your visa application as soon as possible. Once you have been accepted on one of our courses we will issue you with a Confirmation of Acceptance for Study (CAS) or visa letter which you will need, along with financial statements for your visa application. Our team can advise you on what visa you should apply for and can offer help during the application stage. We can also provide visa renewal support and advice once you are studying with us.

CAREERS ADVICE

City College has a dedicated careers team who offer a free service open to all students. They provide careers advice, help with CV writing and interview technique training. ACCOMMODATION We understand that accommodation is an important part of your experience of living in the UK and that you should be happy and comfortable with whatever choice of accommodation you make. City College can help you arrange accommodation in the home of a local host and is the perfect way to experience British culture and share family life. All of our homestays are thoroughly checked and monitored in accordance with the standards set out in the British Council’s Accreditation UK Scheme. Staying in a homestay is the perfect way to sample life and culture in the UK, it will help you to improve your English much faster and learn about cultural differences in a welcoming and comfortable environment. Your host may not always be a traditional family of two parents and children, it may be a single parent family or a person living on their own. Most of our hosts live within a 30 minute bus journey from the College or a 20-30 minute walk.

City College can offer the following accommodation options:

HALF-BOARD HOMESTAY ACCOMMODATION Half-board home-stay accommodation means that the host treats you like a full member of the household, eating together and sharing common areas. A breakfast and an evening meal will be provided, as well as weekly laundry. This option is suitable for students who would like to live in a homely environment.

SELF CATERING PRIVATE HOME ACCOMMODATION Self catering accommodation means that you have the benefits of living in a home environment but you will do your own food shopping and cooking. You will be able to use the kitchen and laundry facilities in the home-stay and will be given your own storage space for your supplies. There may be less contact with hosts but this option will give you more independence. You must be able to cook to qualify for this accommodation and you would be required to keep the kitchen clean and tidy. Please note a private home is not suitable for students under 18. If you require us to arrange accommodation please indicate this on our application form. Please complete the form with as many details as possible so that you can be matched with a host which suits your requests as closely as possible.

When you have received your visa you should inform us and confirm your arrival date. If you have requested airport pick-up please send us your full flight details. As soon as we have had confirmation of your arrival we will send you more information about your first days in Brighton and at City College. If you have booked accommodation with us you will now receive all the details of the arrangements we have made for your stay. It is a good idea to pay the remainder of your tuition fees before travelling to the UK. If we receive your tuition fees in full 14 days or more before your course start date you will receive a 5% discount (applied to tuition fees of over £1,000 only).

2. OFFER AND DEPOSIT If you have met all the entry requirements of your chosen course we will send you a conditional offer letter together with an acceptance form. You should sign and return your acceptance form together with a deposit of £1,000 minimum (or full fees if less than £1000) to secure a place on the course. If you would like us to arrange accommodation and airport pick up you should also pay these arrangement fees now.

If your tuition fees are not paid in full when you arrive at the college we will require the balance to be paid on the first day of your course. You will not be able to join your class until you have paid your fees in full. Please see our website www.ccb.ac.uk for our full terms and conditions.

3. APPLYING FOR A VISA Once all the documentation requested and the deposit have been received a visa letter (for student visitor visa applicants) or CAS statement (for Tier 4 visa applicants) will be sent to you; this is the document you will need to take to your nearest UK Visa office when applying for your visa.
