Tailored Study Programmes The traditional route from school to A levels to University is one that only around 20% of young people take. There are now so many more options post-16 and City College offers a huge range of career-focused courses that will give your child a really well-rounded education. We offer BTEC Diplomas, NVQs, Foundation Degrees and Apprenticeships; by far the widest choice of courses in the local area. All students are enrolled on a specialised Study Programme that is completely tailored to their goals, ability and educational needs:

We are first place nationally for Grade A*-C achievement in GCSE English and mathematics for FE colleges, so you can be sure your child will reach their full potential.

A supportive environment The move from school to college can be a daunting for some, but at City College you can be reassured that your child will soon feel settled in a friendly, safe, secure environment with exceptional student support. As well as being taught by highly-qualified experts who know their subjects inside out, our staff are also warm, friendly and truly care about your child’s success. Once they are here our Student Services team can support students with wellbeing concerns as well as arranging counselling, help with careers, finances and general wraparound support, which students can access at any time during their course.

What happens next? Our vocational courses provide the ideal preparation for the world of work and entry to higher education, to help your child realise their potential:

Higher education Every year City College is the largest feeder of students to the University of Brighton from our Level 3 courses. BTECs are now well respected by universities; over 100,000 BTEC students apply to university every year, with this number steadily rising. Analysis of Labour Force statistics in a study by London Economics showed that, across age groups and gender, graduates with BTECs had an average full-time employment rate of 80% compared with 74% for A level only graduates.

Employment There is a strong correlation between having a vocational qualification and being in employment. With unemployment rates at a high amongst young people, vocational courses give young people the opportunity to develop the workplace skills and experience that employers value. • Vocational qualifications can result in increased earnings of an estimated £150,000 over a lifetime - comparable to the graduate premium (Association of Accounting Technicians). • The Edge Foundation survey found there is consistent evidence that achieving a vocational qualification has a positive impact on the likelihood of being in employment. 72% felt that vocational skills were essential for improving skills amongst young people.

97% of students say that they enjoy their time at the College and that the teaching on their course is good.

“As a parent, I can’t recommend City College highly enough. My son had excellent support from his tutors and gained many valuable life skills as well as success on his course. He grew hugely in confidence during his time at the College and is now coaching kids in football from primary age through to college age as well as being involved in many community sports projects.

He has the option of a place at University next year or a defined career path in the world of sports coaching. The course has given him the options of further academic study or a vocational path and I would encourage any parent to look into A-level alternatives for their child as these courses can offer so much more in terms of work experience and practical, transferable skills that can really help them stand out to employers. ” MATT SHOOMAN, FATHER OF HARRY SHOOMAN WHO STUDIED LEVEL 3 DIPLOMA IN SPORT
