Words of Comfort and Assurance of Pardon

Prelude

May the Father forgive us by the death of his Son and strengthen us to live in the power of the Spirit all our days

Holy Spirit Come Springer Holy Spirit, come Holy Spirit, dwell here Fill this place with joy over-flowing And peace over-flowing And love over-flowing In all of Your glory (2x)

I Will Change Your Name Trufant

Come, come, come

I will change your name You shall no longer be called Wounded, Outcast, Lonely or Afraid

Call to Worship

I will change your name Your new name shall be Confidence, Joyfulness, Overcoming One

The Spirit and the bride say, “Come!” And let the one who hears say, “Come!” Let the one who is thirsty come; and let the one who wishes take the free gift of the water of life. — Revelation 22:17

Faithfulness, Friend of God One who seeks my face

Confession of Sin (In Unison) Abba Father, I am overwhelmed by the mystery of grace: That while I am most often unmindful of you, you are always mindful of me. That while I am forgetful of Jesus’ work on my behalf, you always remember. That while I am constantly reminded of my brokenness and sins, you, the all-seeing, all-knowing God, are able to forget them. I believe, help my unbelief. Amen

Two

For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place, when I was woven together in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be. How precious to me are your thoughts, God! How vast is the sum of them! — Psalm 139:13-15

There in the ground His body lay Light of the world by darkness slain Then bursting forth in glorious Day Up from the grave He rose again And as He stands in victory Sin’s curse has lost its grip on me For I am His and He is mine Bought with the precious blood of Christ No guilt in life no fear in death This is the power of Christ in me From life’s first cry to final breath Jesus commands my destiny No power of hell no scheme of man Can ever pluck me from His hand Till He returns or calls me home Here in the power of Christ I’ll stand

Praying Together A member of the congregation leads us in prayer. Gloria Patri 2nd century, Digerness

In Christ Alone Getty, Townend In Christ alone my hope is found He is my light my strength my song This Cornerstone this solid Ground Firm through the fiercest drought and storm What heights of love what depths of peace When fears are stilled when strivings cease My Comforter my All in All Here in the love of Christ I stand In Christ alone who took on flesh Fulness of God in helpless babe This gift of love and righteousness Scorned by the ones He came to save Till on that cross as Jesus died The wrath of God was satisfied For every sin on Him was laid Here in the death of Christ I live

Glory be to the Father Glory be to the Son Glory be to the Spirit, Three in One As it was in the beginning It will be forever, Amen Amen, Amen

Series: Parenting and Grandparenting with Faith, Hope and Love Message: Good Gifts 13 People were bringing little children to Jesus for him to place his hands on them, but the disciples rebuked them. 14 When Jesus saw this, he was indignant. He said to them, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. 15 Truly I tell you, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it.” 16 And he took the children in his arms, placed his hands on them and blessed them. — Mark 10:13-16

1 Unless the LORD builds the house, the builders labor in vain. Unless the LORD watches over the city, the guards stand watch in vain. 2 In vain you rise early and stay up late, toiling for food to eat— for he grants sleep to those he loves. 3 Children are a gift from the LORD, offspring a reward from him. 4 Like arrows in the hands of a warrior are children born in one’s youth. 5 Blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them. They will not be put to shame when they contend with their opponents in court. — Psalm 127

Communion To the joyless Pharisees, Jesus said, “Of course, I am eating and drinking and celebrating with the smallest of the small, with sinners. What better thing to do when something that had been lost is finally found?” — Peter Leithart

Communion or the Lord’s Supper, is the family meal of Christians. We invite all followers of Jesus Christ to participate. If you are not a follower of Jesus or are not prepared to share in the meal, we encourage you to spend this time in prayer. We hope this time is helpful to you as you consider your relationship with Jesus Christ and with his people, the church. Guidance for communion: We practice communion by coming forward and receiving the elements. Whenever you are ready you may come forward receive a piece of bread from the loaf and dip into the white chalice which is wine or the green chalice which is grape juice. If for any reason you are not able to come forward our servers will come back to you. Simply raise your hand and they will be glad to serve you. Members of our mercy team available to pray with you or for you during this time. They are towards the front on the right hand side of the sanctuary.

Prayer for Truth Jesus, you claim to be the way, the truth, and the life. Grant that I might be undaunted by the cost of following you as I consider the reasons for doing so. If what you claim is true, please guide me, teach me, and open to me the reality of who you are. Give me an understanding of you that is coherent, convincing, and that leads to the life that you promise. Amen. Prayer of Belief Lord Jesus, I admit that I am weaker and more sinful that I ever before believed, but through you I am more loved and accepted than I ever dared hope. I thank you for paying my debt, bearing my punishment on the cross, and offering forgiveness and new life. Knowing that you have been raised from the dead, I turn from my sin and receive you as Savior and Lord. Amen. Prayer for those Struggling with Sin Lord Jesus, grant that I may see in you the fulfillment of all my needs, and my turn from every false satisfaction to feed on you, the true and living bread. Enable me to lay aside the sin that clings so closely, and run with perseverance the race set before me, looking to you, the pioneer and perfecter of my faith. Amen.

Riches I heed not, nor man’s empty praise Thou mine inheritance, now and always Thou and Thou only, first in my heart High king of heaven, my treasure Thou art

I heard the voice of Jesus say Come unto Me and rest Lay down, O weary one lay down Your head upon My breast I came to Jesus as I was So weary, worn and sad I found in Him my resting place And He has made me glad

High king of heaven, my victory won May I reach heaven’s joys, O bright heaven’s sun Heart of my own heart, whatever befall Still be my vision, O ruler of all

Worship Through Our Gifts And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work. — 2 Corinthians 9:8

I heard the voice of Jesus say Behold I freely give The living water; thirsty one Stoop down and drink, and live I came to Jesus, and I drank From that life-giving stream My thirst was quenched, my soul revived And now I live in Him

Benediction May Christ be your shield today: Christ before you; Christ behind you; Christ beneath you; Christ above you Christ on your right; Christ on your left; may Christ be with you, Christ be in you. Amen.

I heard the voice of Jesus say I am this dark worlds light Look unto Me, thy morn shall rise And all thy days be bright I looked to Jesus, and I found In Him my star, my sun And in that light of life Ill walk Til pilgrim days are done

Dismissal (In Unison) Let us go forth to serve the world as those who love our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Postlude Be Thou My Vision Ancient Irish hymn Be Thou my vision, O Lord of my heart Naught be all else to me, save that Thou art Thou my best thought, by day or by night Waking or sleeping, Thy presence my light Be Thou my wisdom, and Thou my true Word I ever with Thee and Thou with me, Lord Thou my great Father, I Thy true son Thou in me dwelling, and I with Thee one Six

Our Purpose:

Together, Living Out the Gospel in the Heart of the City.

Seven Core Values Gospel The gospel is the good news that in Jesus’ life, death and resurrection, God by grace rescues and draws men and women into fellowship with himself and with one another. Through the gospel all creation is restored so that we will enjoy this fellowship forever. Through the gospel God’s Kingdom has come and is coming. Therefore we are committed to a life together that is permeated with expectant, enduring, joyful hope.

Bible The Scriptures of the Old and New Testament are God’s inspired, authoritative revelation. All of the scriptures present Christ and the gospel to draw us to worship and make Him known. We are committed to being a learning community, diligently studying all of the scriptures and allowing God to transform all of life.

Worshipful In response to the good news of the gospel, we worship God as King and Jesus as Savior and Lord in all of our daily activity. This culminates in coming together on Sunday — gathered, renewed and sent out by the Holy Spirit.

Prayerful We regularly and expectantly engage in coversation with God, both personally and as a group. We are committed to complete dependence on God in prayer for all of our life and mission together.

Missional The Bible is about the mission of God – bringing love, peace and justice to a broken world through the work of Christ. Therefore “missions” is way more than a church department but rather what God and life is all about. We are committed to calling individuals to respond to the gospel in repentance, faith and conversion. We are committed to pointing individuals both locally and globally to Christ by acts of justice and mercy. We use all the gifts and talents given to the church and seek to partner with other like-minded congregations and ministries.

International/Inter-Generational The gospel is best expressed and demonstrated through a diverse community who believe, embrace and practice it together. We are committed to ethnic groups, families and generations worshipping and serving together.

Hospitable Hospitality is a response of love and gratitude for God’s love and welcome to us. As individuals and a church family we are committed to the gracious opening of our hearts, homes and lives to others, especially the needy and strangers.
