CROSS COUNTRY C U R R E N T S
Summer 2014
Greeting My Circle-Let Sisters,
I
t didn’t matter where we lived last winter, the weather was horrible. I’m one of those individuals that can endure almost anything because to cope I find a future event to focus upon. This year I got through the winter focusing upon “Glitz, Glamour and All That Shimmers”. Yes, thanks to the Dallas Chapter’s theme for Conclave, I was able to make it through the winter by planning and thinking about the great weekend we are going to enjoy when we arrive at the birthplace of our organization. Planning for the Conclave began with inviting the Officers and National Chairs to Columbus for our March Executive Committee Meeting. The weather was cold and rainy but we had a hot time! The Chapter, also, celebrated its 40th Anniversary that same weekend. Executive Committee members and past national presidents were invited to share in the celebration and the Executive Committee Luncheon. Past national presidents included: Cecile Springer-Pittsburgh Chapter, Dodye Evans-Los Angeles Valley Chapter and Columbus’ Installing President, Janice Burks-Roanoke Chapter and Columbus’ Sponsoring President, and Jean Player- St. Louis Chapter. These Sister Presidents provided us with Circle-Let stories and wisdom we will carry forever. My heartfelt thanks and appreciation go to my home chapter for such warm hospitality given to our guests and for making me feel special. Yes, we had fun but we also made significant progress on our projects. The Technology Committee compiled the results of the survey and will present a proposal to the Delegates to create a membership database. This will allow us to maintain your profile, track Conclave attendance and perform Conclave registration on our website. The trademark filings have been completed, so we can move forward with expanding our jewelry vendors. The Constitution and By-Laws Committee has reviewed our policies and procedures for any inconsistencies. About every three weeks I receive a call from Eleanor Conrad. This winter she visited her daughter in Chicago and other family members around the country, but upon her return home she called me to say, “I’ve have done every job in Circle-Lets and I’m getting old so you need to find someone to take my positions as Historian and Jewelry Chairs”. Eleanor Conrad was a charter member of the first chapter- Dallas. She was there in the beginning and has remained active for 59 years. In this issue we honor her and spotlight her in our member column. Thank you Circle-Let Eleanor for your service and friendship. The Winter of 2014 was dismal, but then flowers bloom and we are renewed. Over the past several years, more members have taken Emeritus status (10% of our membership). As you start making plans for your next club year, consider inviting daughters, cousins, and friends into our circle. In this issue of Cross Country Currents we are highlighting how your chapter can be renewed. We have interviewed mothers and daughters who share in the “Circle of Friends” experience. I’m sure you know someone who would enjoy the social camaraderie of your chapter. This is the time to think about our next generation and to be renewed. I hope you have enjoyed your summer. I pray peace, love and blessings. Yours in the Circle,
Greta J. Russell
