'Labour have left the bed' says Staples

Ex-government partners in row over University Labour have left the bed-----declared Fine Gael councillor Frank Staples following sharp exchanges between his colleague Cllr Jim Moore and Labour's George Lawlor at a meeting of the Wexford Municipal Borough Council after Cllr Lawlor attacked the new government over an alleged abandonment of plans for a

University for the South East. After five years of wedded bliss in government the two parties are now on opposite sides in the Dail and Cllr. Lawlor launched a strong attack on the new government at the meeting saying it was his belief that the plan for a South East University would not now be proceeded with.

Although he did not have confirmation of the issue he said if it was true it would be a disgrace. He alleged the decision was taken to protect WIT as part of a deal with Waterford TD John Halligan. He labelled the new government a 'dolly-mix' of Fine Gael, Fianna Fail and Independents .'If this is put on the

back burner it is an absolute disgrace and must be investigated and condemned', he said Cllr Moore accused Mr Lawlor of being motivated by trying to carve out a position for himself in opposition. He said he too would be concerned about the matter but people coming in an making

statements about rumours was not the proper way to address it. He said Cllr.Lawlor's party had an opportunity to go into government where they could have been involved in this issue and all policy but had chosen instead to go in to opposition. 'You could have stayed in government' de-

clared Cllr. Moore. Fianna Fail's Tony Dempsey said it was an important issue and he hoped it would not become a political football because that would do damage. Frank Staples said he hoped this was not a sign of things to come now that 'Labour have left the bed'

It was a long time coming but the sun finally burst through the clouds at the end of last week and people from across the county raced to the seaside to take full advantage of the good weather. The Ryan family from Ballindaggin, Taylor, Melissa, Jordan, Adam, Paddy and Evan were relaxing on the beach at Morriscastle, while some others were a bit more adventurous taking to the water.

News Co. Council Diary Paddy and George not comrades anymore, Malcolm plays Lannigan's Ball, Kathleen's pot hole message for Shane Ross It might not be a case of 'you don't bring me flowers anymore' but Paddy Kavanagh and George Lawlor are not as close as they used to be, well at least in the political sense. When George highlighted Fine Gael's lack of support for an ICTU initiative on fair employment Paddy declared 'I take it this means we are not comrades anymore. Yes this was new politics. The five year marriage between Fine Gael and Labour is over and new politics is

with us. There was another sign of that new politics in the Council Chamber when Malcolm Byrne raised questions on the same document and George wondered which questions he was raising as part of the opposition and which ones were on behalf of the government partnership. 'You're playing Lannigan's Ball' said George. New politics or not things were very calm at the May meeting of the Co. Council. After seventy days without a government perhaps the

councillors will take a little time to get into their stride again. But not Councillor Kathleen Codd Nolan the champion of the small rural road. She was on the issue again demanding a reinstatement of the old local improvement grants. These enable locals to carry out improvements on roads in their own area with financial support from the Council. But they were scrapped at the time of scarce resources and Kathleen, with many others, believes that they

“I’m in PAIN”

should be reintroduced. And she wants to bring that message directly to the new minister for Transport, Shane Ross. The Independent TD will not have encountered many potholed rural roads in his Dublin Rathdown constituency so maybe rather than the councillors going on deputation to him in Dublin it might be better to invite the Minister on a tour of rural Wexford. Eitherway it will come as a bit of a culture shock to Shane when he opens his post and begins to read a letter all about tertiary routes, potholes and local improvement schemes. In South Dublin local im-

provement is more likely to mean a trip to the gym, a facial or the latest hairstyle. Shane has a lot to learn. This was Tony Dempsey's second last meeting in the Chair and he was determined to get through the agenda in double quick time. 'That's a statement, not a question, You were in before, we're moving on now' he chanted as he sped towards the end. Such was the speed of his movement that he didn't even pause for tea telling the members they could have it at the end of the meeting. All eyes now are on the Council's bid for the Capital of Culture Award as part of the Three Sisters Bid. Decision Day is less than two

months away and by all accounts if the South East succeeds in this effort the benefits will be enormous. There was the little matter of providing the €3m in funding which will be required if the bid is successful to be dealt with at the meeting. When Deirdre Wadding started talking about houses as she raised to speak on the issue the colour seemed to drain from the faces of some of those on the top table who have invested so much time into this bid. Perhaps sensing the alarm she was causing Deirdre quickly declared that she was all in favour of the bid and the huge benefits it could bring to Wexford.

Roundabout for New Ross gets priority A plan to have a roundabout installed at an important junction on the N25 just outside New Ross is to be expedited following a decision by members of Wexford Co. Council. The junction at Marshmeadows is creating a danger because of the high volume of HGVs emerging onto the N25 at this point.

The motion was brought to the full Co .Council by the New Ross Municipal District Committee. Cllr. Larry O'Brien said one company located just up from the junction had three hundred tractor units and seven hundred trailers, another had one hundred and forty vehicles and a third had two hundred and forty.

When these vehicles came to the junction and had to stop they could only start off very slowly across the road because of their size. 'These vehicles don't start off again quickly', he said. Cllr. O'Brien said the Council already owned all the land which is required to create the roundabout.

Council boss defends Gateway

Offer expires 27th May 2016

There was a strong difference of opinion over the value of the government's Gateway scheme which provides those on social welfare with a top up when they take on work as part of the scheme at a meeting of the Co. Council. Cllr Deirdre Wadding, a long time critic of Gateway repeated her opposition to the scheme during a Council debate on the ICTU fair ages document and she was particularly critical of the fact

that the Council itself was using it. But the Chief Executive Tom Enright said Gateway had been used successfully by the Council and those who had been part of the scheme would have an advantage over others when the Council began recruiting for outdoor staff later this year. He said it was regrettable that Gateway had not been operated corrected by a small number of employers and as

a result the Trade Unions had withdrawn their co-operation. Cllr Wadding was also critical of what she described as the 'muzzling' of trade unions under the partnership agreements. And she also criticised low rates of tax paid by multi national companies operating in Ireland saying they often paid a lower rate than the cleaning ladies who worked for them.

Demand for 24/7 psychiatric service Members of Wexford Co. Council have backed a call on the government for the provision of a 24/7 psychiatric unit for Co. Wexford. Independent councillor Davy Hynes proposed a motion on the issue at the May meeting of the Council. He said that nothing sufficient was put in place following the

closure of St. Senan's. Cllr. Keith Doyle said the problem arose as a result of policy decisions and the fact that the Department of Health feels that what has been put in place to replace St. Senan's is sufficient for the county. Cllr Deirdre Wadding said it was irresponsible to close something without putting something else in place to

replace the service it provided. Cllr George Lawlor highlighted the fact that if someone presents at Wexford General Hospital and is then referred to Waterford University Hospital for treatment they have to go through A&E in Waterford again.

A big weekend clean-up in Morriscastle Rubbish is a big problem on all Co. Wexford beaches with many people who visit the seaside leaving one hell of a mess behind them and having no concern for other beach

users. But there are no such problems at the popular Morriscastle Strand following a weekend of serious activity on the clean-up front.

Members of Seal Rescue Ireland direct the clean-up at Morriscastle on Sunday.

On Saturday members of the Killmuckridge Tidy Towns group were on the Strand to get it ready for the influx of visitors over the summer. And on Sunday it was the scene of a rescued seal release which was coupled with a 'two minute' clean-up. Courtown Seal Rescue volunteers were on hand at the entrance to the beach to encourage visitors participate in the two minute clean-up and there was an enthusiastic positive response with young and old taking the big blue bags and making their way along the beach in search of rubbish. And most people spent a lot more than two minutes as part of the clean-up before returning, often with packed bags of

items they had found in the sand. Sea; Rescue Ireland teamed up with Clean Coasts for the joint beach clean and by any standards it was a great success. With good weather there was a great atmosphere as parents and children, teenagers and the not so young all made their way along the strand staring intently at the sand for items they should remove. The hope is that by introducing beachgoers to Beach combers Carol Deherty, Zoe and Imogen Gibb the concept of becomvisit when there is not an orwith sunshine, something ing involved in a quick clean ganised clean up. which has been very rare so of the beach they might do it Sunday's event was blessed far this season. themselves the next time they

Craanford alive to the sound of music for Co. Fleadh The picturesque village of Craanford in North Wexford was the setting at the weekend for the Co. Wexford Fleadh with literally hundreds of Irish music enthusiasts making their way north to take part in a wide range of competitions. Sunday was the big day of the event with band members and individuals busy putting in their final few minutes of prac-

tice before they faced the judges. They have become quite used to hosting the event in Craanford and it now runs like clockwork. The GAA field provides much of the parking and the dressing rooms are taken over as a practice venue. The indoor football pitch nearby is another practice area where teachers and parents

give one final push to their charges before they make their way to the Community Centre or the local school where the competitions themselves take place. Some young people are taking part in several competitions and between each event they rush from one venue to another. Even those who clutch trophies, having successfully

competed in one event have little time to celebrate their success before they must face the judges again. Inside the competitions halls it is all very serious. This is an important business. Those who are successful will go on to compete in the Leinster event and maybe even go all the way to the All Ireland Fleadh. Outside the door there is just

time for few more practice notes before its time to go inside and the doors are closed behind the competitors. When they re-emerge at the other side of the Community Centre they are much more relaxed with some of them celebrating yet another win. The organisers were blessed with the weather. The warm sunshine, a rarity this year, en-

abled those who were not taking part in the actual competitions to enjoy their tea and sandwiches outdoors. By evening time the harps, whistles, banjos, drums and everything else fell silent as the successful competitors turned their thoughts towards the next big event. Between now and then there will be a lot of practice sessions.

News Gardai winning battle against criminals as crime drops dramatically Give us the cash and we'll beat the criminals. That was the clear message from Garda Chief Superintendent John Roche when he presented crime figures for the year to date to members of the Joint Policing Committee. There has been a dramatic improvement in all headline crime across the county in the year to May 6th and the Garda boss has credited this to a major operation which swug into action late last year to tackle increasing crime levels. There has been a huge fall in the number of burglaries with just one hundred ninety three burglaries committed this year, down from four hundred and fifty five a year ago, a fall of 58%. Other property crime is down 38% to six hundred and eighty eight, while thefts from shops was down 10% to one hundred

and sixty one while other thefts showed a 38% decrease to one hundred and seventy nine. Thefts from cars were down by 5% to one hundred and sixty six while Public Order offences showed a 20% fall to one hundred and thirty two and crimes against the person were down 17% to one hundred and thirty two. The big success story in relation to crime resulted from a major Garda operation which followed serious public concern over growing crime levels in the county. The fall in crime has been common across the entire county with every Garda area showing an improvement. Chief Supt. Roche revealed that Wexford has seen the highest reduction in crime levels of any area in the country. He said the previous govern-

ment had provided the money to fund a major Garda operation to tackle criminals and the improvement was down to that. Supt. Roche said 'in your face policing' had been deployed with Gardai targeting home grown criminals first. With additional overtime available members of the force spent long hours checking the whereabouts of known criminals and this often involved sitting outside their homes. Chief Roche said he did not want to gloat but he said if the Gardai were given the resources they could fight crime. There was warm praise for the efforts of the Gardai from members of the committee with Deputy Michael D'Arcy leading compliments. He said that they were quick to criticise the Gardai when things went wrong but perhaps not as

rapid to praise when it was due. He said he wanted to thank all involved and that message should be brought back to frontline Gardai. He said he would also bring the message directly back to the Minister for Justice that resources were required to continue to operation to beat the criminals. Cllr Barbara Ann Murphy said it was a real success for in your face policing and she added that it underlined the importance of seeing Gardai out on the beat and not confined to Garda Stations. Co. Council Chief Executive Tom Enright also praised the Garda operation and he said reducing crime was important in the context of trying to attract business and investment to Co. Wexford.

Facebook world and the land of the fake Garda Those who live their lives in the world of Facebook are living a life of unreality when it comes to some types of crime. Take for example the strange case of the fake Gardai and the unmarked Garda cars. In 'Facebook World' fake Gardai are stetting up checkpoints, stopping vehicles ordering the drivers from them and proceeding to rob the unfortunate drivers on a regular basis all over the county.

And for hundreds of people it seems that Facebook is their only world. Once they read these posts they can speak of little else, at work, in the coffee shop, on the sports field or in the pub. And in the Facebook World many real Gardai are corrupt in their professional lives and up to all sorts in their private lives. But in the real world things are a little different. The fake

Garda is actually, by and large, a fake story with only three incidents in February reported to Gardai and being investigated and they may all be linked. But none of the other large number of incidents recorded on Facebook, and fully believed by those for whom Facebook is the gospel ever really took placed. Or if they did they were never reported to the real Gardai and there is no on the ground evidence of them

happening. Chief Sup. John Roche gave an update on the 'fake' fake Garda reports to a meeting of the Joint Policing Committee following concerns raised by members. He said Gardai monitored Facebook where a lot of anonymous allegations were also made regularly about members of the force .

Drug crime up, but that may be a good thing There has been a big increase in the number of drug related offences detected in Co. Wexford since the start of the year. However, while an increase in other types of crime is always a bad thing the increase in drugs offences

may actually be something good, members of the Joint Policing Committee heard. The number of drug offences for personal use detected increased by 24% to eighty eight since the start of the year but there was an even bigger increase in the

number of offences for supply which were detected up from twenty two to thirty two, an increase of 45%. The figures were revealed by Chief Sup. John Roche who told Cllr. Jim Moore that the figures did not include detections at Rosslare Euro

Port. Cllr. George Lawlor said the increase in detections, which followed better resources for the Drugs Squad, were not necessarily a bad thing because it meant there was less drugs on the streets.

Drunk drivers 'not getting the message'

Concern over welfare support for Gardai

The message on drunk driving is not getting through to motorists in Co.Wexford with another increase in the number of drivers found drunk behind the wheel since the start of the year. Chief Supt. John Roche told members of the Joint Policing Committee that one driver per day was being found drunk while driving with the number of offences detected up by 5% since the start of the year. The message was simply not getting across and more would

The welfare of all members of the Force is very important to the Garda authorities, Chief Sup. John Roche has insisted. He was replying to Cllr. Joe Sullivan who raised the issue at a meeting of the Joint Policing Committee who said young Gardai were facing very difficult situations on a very regular basis, particularly with the growing instance

have to be done in this area, he told committee members. This increase in the number of offences detected has come despite a cut in the strength of the Garda Traffic Corps. The number of drivers caught using mobile phones while driving was also up with two hundred and ninety two detections, an increase of 2%. But there was better news in relation to seat belts with a 9% reduction in offences being recorded.

of suicide in the county. When such incidents occurred the Gardai were the first to be called to the scene and they had to relive the trauma involved months later at an inquest. He said young Gardai needed proper welfare care and support and he asked if there was proper welfare and support service to deal with these issues.

Mount Congreve Gardens Built in 1760, the Georgian Estate, Mount Congreve House, was the brainchild of local Waterford architect, John Roberts, who later went on to design and build most of the 18 century public buildings in Waterford, including both Christ Church Cathedral and Cathedral of the Most Holy Trinity. Today, the gardens at Mount Congreve boast the largest collection of plants in Ireland, and

one of the largest private collections of plants in the world. To fully appreciate what this collection has to offer, it has to be experienced, with every season, as the seasons unfold. The entire collection consists of over three thousand different trees and shrubs, more than two thousand Rhododendrons, six hundred Camellias, three hundred Acer cultivars, six hundred conifers, two hundred and fifty

climbers and fifteen hundred herbaceous plants. However, it’s not just for plant lovers but is also somewhere to take the family, relax and enjoy nature in all its glory. Wheelchair and pram friendly path

On a week when a major exhibition on the art of thatching was being hosted by Wexford Co. Council it emerged that the first Thatched House which visitors to the county through Rosslare Euro Port see is actually in a very poor state

of repair and falling down. Mayor Ger Carthy raised the state of the building at a meeting of the Municipal District Council this week. He said he was aware it was not in the ownership of the Council but said it needed urgent attention.

High speed broadband coming........for some Super High Speed Broadband is on its way to Wexford, at least to parts of the county and SIRO the company which is using the ESB cable network to bring the service to homes in the county presented their plans to members of the Wexford Municipal District Council this week. Sean Atkinson the boss of SIRO told councillors that his service could deliver broadband several times faster than anything currently available in the country. Members of the Council welcomed the initiative but were cautious given the many false starts which there have been with broadband in Wexford in recent years.

Cllr George Lawlor said the service should be started in areas which were not currently served. Cllr Davy Hynes said many parts of the town, even close to the centre still could not get high speed broadband. However, if there is some hope for the town the situation in rural areas is not so bright. It will be 2022 before any high speed service will be delivered to more rural parts of the county, the SIRO boss informed Cllr Frank Staples Because the new service will run along the current ESB network there will be widespread power cuts in Wexford town when the work of installing the new cables is being carried out.

This year, they have joined forces with the Fr. Leo Staples Bobleo Trust. Fr.

Leo Staples, from Wygram and Piercestown, has been living and working in a parish about the size of Wexford in Kenya for 65 years. Both groups have fund-raised tirelessly to provide education in for children in the poorest regions of Africa. Both share the mutual belief that education is the most powerful gift and investment that can be made in poor regions. With a common ethos, it made sense for the groups to come together, pool their strengths and resources,

School Business Awards winners announced Last Thursday night was a big occasion for students from second level schools across North Wexford when they took part in the final of the fifth year of the Educate to Innovate School Business Awards. The high powered panel of judges included CEO of Innovate Jim Hughes, Sinead O'Sullivan of House of SOS, Keith Groarke , Manager of

AIB, Pat Rath of Wexford Local Development and Tom Enright, Chief Executive of Wexford Co. Council. The projects went on display at Gorey Library prior to the official start of the proceedings and each of the nine finalists' stands were reviewed by the judges. Following a presentation by each of the nine groups the judges announced that stu-

dents from Creagh College with the project Medal Mount were the winners ahead of two projects from Gorey Community School 'I Stop Trade Shop' which finished second and 'Life Captured' which finished in third place. Students from FCJ, Bunclody and Colaiste Bhride also made it to the final line up.

in order to achieve the same objective. Fr. Leo Staples is now in his 91st year and was ordained in Kiltegan in 1951. He arrived in Kenya, amongst the Pokot people, after his ordination. He immediately went about learning the Pokot language and setting up a new Catholic parish. He built the parish church and produced liturgical books in the Pokot language. He has, over the years, opened 38 outstation churches, 4 dispensaries, 34 primary schools

and 2 secondary boarding schools. He has provided inspiration to people in Kenya and Ireland all his life, not least to his nephew and namesake, Leo Staples junior, who is bassist with Corner Boy. "I'm delighted to be able to help Fr. Leo to continue to do his work in Kenya. He's been there a long time now and he's built hospitals and schools and so on. He's told me personally about the lack of proper medical facilities when he arrived

and about how through building hospitals, they have been able to reduce infant mortality significantly. It's a great thing to be able to use music to help others and we do it as much as we can." Tickets are priced at €15 per person and are available from Clayton Whites Hotel, from Eugene Doyle Accountants, Enniscorthy and from Larry Byrne 086-2537539 or Frank Staples 086-2305050. The Wedges will perform at 7pm and Corner Boy at 10pm.

Exhibition showcases Wexford’s Thatch Crafts The offices of Wexford County Council are hosting a most unique and interesting event,an exhibition entitled “Wexford Thatch, Ceird, Oidhreach, Pobal”.. The exhibition has been developed by the Planning Department of Wexford County Council. The

Council engaged the services of Dr Fidelma Mullane to highlight the history of the county’s longstanding and unique thatching tradition. The exhibition, which will run for a three week period, features photos and artefacts relating to the use of thatch in County Wex-

ford, and is sure to be of interest to owners of thatched properties, people with an interest in the traditional craft of thatching, and those who simply recognise the wonderful beauty of our thatched heritage and would like to learn more about its origins and history.

GER WALSH From near defeat back to the Cabinet Table for Paul Its amazing how much can change in the space of a couple of months. Back at the end of February Paul Kehoe was a shattered man as he fought a tough battle to retain his Dail seat. By all accounts Paul had not seen it coming in the sense that he did not expect to be struggling to hold on to his place in the Dail after five years as Chief Whip. But struggle he did and a few additional votes going the way off Sinn Fein's Johnny Mythen would have spelled the end of his Dail career. He was a hugely relived man when. after a recount, he stayed fifty votes ahead of his rival, and won a place in the new Dail. Last week all that worry and the struggle was put back into history as Paul was named Minister for Defence and provided with a Super Junior Ministerial position to enable him attend cabinet meetings. He had, of course, also attended cabinet in his position as government Chief Whip and it is a long time since a TD from Wexford had a place at the cabinet table for two successive terms. In fact you'd have to go back more than fifty years to the time of James Ryan to find someone who represented this county and remained at cabinet for successive Dail terms. So this is quite an achieve-

A married couple in India have just had a baby and now say they feel 'complete'. I would suggest that they should have gone a little further and said they felt 'complete fools' because

that's what they are. Imagine trying to manage a young baby at their age or worse still when the child starts getting active and running around. I think there should be a law against it.

West Ham man ďŹ red at the wrong target That episode last week when the Manchester United team bus was attacked by West Ham fans brought back memories of what English football used to be like a few decades ago when violence was commonplace at games. Thankfully those days are in the past and the 'fans' responsible for the ugly scenes outside Upton Park represent a very small minority of fans but they did manage to somewhat spoil what should have been a wonderful occasion as the team played their final game at the Boleyn Ground. But what are we to make of the West Ham CoChairman David Sullivan?. When police delayed the kick off because of the

ment for Deputy Kehoe who now has a full Department to run. And its not a Department that is likely to land him in a lot of trouble. After all he will not have to contend with soldiers on trolleys or sleeping rough and many of the engagements

which his Ministry involves are good photo opportunities so its all positive for the Enniscorthy man. Paul's career is of course very closely linked to Taoiseach Enda Kenny. He has been personally and professionally close to Enda since he entered

the Dail and played a big part in the Mayo man's survival of a leadership challenge prior to the 2011 general election. So he for one will be hoping Enda stays on as leader for as long as possible. I wish him all the best in his new role.

Yates election predictions were not such a big hit Ivan Yates has really made a big name for himself in recent years having come through some very difficult personal circumstances. His outspoken comments and laid back presentation style have proven a big hit with radio and TV audiences. There was a lot of surprise, therefore. when he announced recently that he was quitting for a year to go travelling with his wife Deirdre. However, the latest radio listenership figures will probably have convinced the former Wexford TD that he is doling the right thing to get

Having a baby at 70

away from it all for a period. The numbers for the first quarter of this year, which was dominated by the general election, were very disappointing for the Newstalk Breakfast Show. Particularly so given the promotion which surrounded Ivan's personal predictions for each Dail constituency. There had been a belief that the entire nation was waiting with bathed breath each morning to hear Ivan's pronouncements. Not so, it seems. During the first quarter of the year the programme actually lost 5%

of its audience when compared with the same period last year, while it was down 4% on the previous three months. At the same time Morning Ireland added 10% to its listenership. Morning Ireland dominates early morning radio so its no surprise that it is well ahead of Newstalk, but it is rather surprising that Yates and Co actually lost listeners during this period of high political drama However, Ivan and Chris Donohue were in good company as they shed listeners because two of the

station's other star presenters, Pat Kenny and George Hook also suffered significant declines.. Newstalk Breakfast had 164,000 listeners during the period. To put that in some context the RTE Sunday morning programme 'Sunday Miscellany' had 239,000 listeners during the first quarter of the year an indication of how far Newstalk has to climb to become a really serious player which is probably why Ivan just can't wait to catch that boat for the US,

violence outside the ground he said they had been "kind" to Man United. He even seemed to suggest that United were in some way responsible for the violence saying: Man United should have got here at 4pm. They made the same mistake at Spurs. I'd make them kick off at 7-45pm" Plonker would be too mild a word to use to describe this man. He is, of course the same David Sullivan who publishes the Sport newspapers in Britain. The salacious publications are badly mis-named because they contain very little sport's news. There isn't room for any after all the pictures of topless ladies have been placed on the pages.

Negative comments can cause further problems for Courtown Courtown Harbour/Riverchapel is a part of the county which was really transformed during the Celtic Tiger years. It went from a relatively lowly populated seaside resort to the fifth largest centre of population in the county in the space of a few years. As in several other parts of the country many planning mistakes were made in those years. Hundreds of houses without the back up of proper facilities were built and as we have seen repeatedly over the years this led to a large number of social problems. To be fair the local authority has been working with stakeholders in recent years to try and rectify the situation and many good things are happening in Courtown. There is a drug problem in the resort, but then there is a drug problem in almost every other centre of population in the county.

There is also evidence that some of those who have settled in the area from Dublin are less than desirable but the vast majority of people who have come to live in Courtown are honest decent people. A local Police Committee is now being established to tackle the problems of Courtown and that is welcome because it recognises that there are difficulties in the area and it also provides a platform which can be used to do something about them. However, it is unfortunate that an impression is being created that the area is rampant with drugs and that 'every criminal in South Dublin' has been exported to Courtown because they paint the area in a very bad light and the effect of this picture will be to scare people away from Courtown and create even more difficulties in the future.

The Future of Play, is Educational Play Bricks 4 Kidz teaches children aged 4-12 years the principles of Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) using LEGO Technic. The week long LEGO summer camps, which are available throughout County Wexford during July and August, have proven to be a big hit with the children of Wexford with over 50% of places already booked. Bricks 4 Kidz are providers of fun, engaging and creative play experiences that help children develop social, emotional and intellectual skills, laying a foundation that lasts a lifetime. Using a unique system of play that combines structure, logic and creativity,

children are enabled to learn through play by reasoning systematically and thinking creatively. A typical day at a Bricks 4 Kidz camp will have children building brick and motorised models, experimenting with gears and motors and gaining an understanding of how things work. What’s really cool about a Bricks 4 Kidz summer camp, is the wide range of themes which include; Minecraft, Star Wars, Super Heroes, Jurassic Park, Frozen, Clash of Clans and Angry Birds. Its LEGOLAND inspired Creativity Centre on Paul Quay is home to over 100,000 LEGO bricks and

provides the ultimate safe and cool venue for a summer camp. All Bricks 4 Kidz tutors are fully trained and Garda vetted. As parents, we want to provide our children with every opportunity for a future in science, technology, engineering and maths. It has been proven that children are more likely to pursue a career in these areas if they have had a positive STEM education experience at a young age and Bricks 4 Kidz Wexford harnesses this in a fun and innovative way. Impressed by its project based curriculum, which promotes the principles of Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Maths (STEAM), renowned local entrepreneur, Karl Fitzpatrick is excited to have introduced this unique concept to Ireland. Sew Fun Studios Wexford is owned and operated by Brian and Joanne Denton and is located in their state of the art design studio on Paul Quay in Wexford town. Sew Fun Studios Wexford is providing weekly summer

camps for children aged 6 13 years, throughout July and August. Each camp runs from Monday to Friday and parents can choose from either morning or afternoon sessions. During each day of the camp, children will learn the principles of fashion design, gain hands on experience using a sewing machine and will make their own stuffed animals, clothing and accessories, all of which they can take home. As all children will be fully trained on how to use the child friendly sewing ma-

chines in a safe manner, previous sewing experience is not required. All Sew Fun Studios instructors are highly qualified, are Garda vetted and have experience of working with children. Sew Fun Studios' summer camps are an excellent way to provide an educational, creative and entertaining experience for children during the summer holidays.
