he General Suprentendent of the Assemblies of God Church, Reverend Dr Paul Frimpong Manso has advised ministers of the Gospel not to sacrifice their family in exchange for the altar.

He has therefore advised them not to live a double standard life where they are good leaders in the church but a failure when it comes to their own matrimonial homes.

Church opens functional literacy class in Ho.

dem Chapel of the Apostles Revelation Society (ARS) in Ho on Wednesday inaugurated a functional literacy class for members of the Church.

The ‘batch four’ English literacy class, which equips learners with reading and writing skills, is the 10th running in the Ho Municipality under the auspices of the Non-Formal Education Division..

The occasion saw the induction of Rev Dr Joseph K K Biasie as the Regional Suprentendent of the Assemblies of God Church, Rev Ernest Birikorang as the Regional Secretary and Reverend Jonas Tetteh as the Regional Treasurer.

Intercessory Prayers were offered for the new executive to strengthen them in their new role.

Resurrection Power Women organizes free health screening.

he Dansoman Branch of the Resurrection Power and Living Bread Ministries has organized a blood donation, breast and eye screening for its members and residents in and around the Dansoman in Accra.

The exercise forms part of activities outlined to climax a weeklong women celebration organized by the women ministry of the church on the theme” Blessed Woman”.

Hundreds of beneficiaries donated blood to the Korle Bu blood Bank, whiles others had their eyes and breast screened for free in the one day exercise.

“Women have a big problem when it comes to breast cancer, so we took it upon ourselves to help in that direction by organizing the health screening exercise and blood donation with the support of the Korle Bu blood bank, she said.

“Breast cancer for instance is killing a lot of women in the currently, so I will advice the women not to rely on herbal medicines but ensure they seek early treatment, she advised.

For her part, the Treasurer of the Women Ministry Madam Juliana Afriyie urged women in the country to ensure they go for regular routine check up to avert any unforeseen ailment .

According to her the women ministry is considering making the exercise which was their maiden one, an annual event due to the huge success of the exercise.

he Senior Pastor of Calvary Bible Church Lagos, Nigeria, Olumide Emmanuel has expressed worry about the high level of deception being practiced by purported men of God claiming to be pastor's lately. “To become a doctor you need years of training but lately many are now claiming they have been called by God , a call which is only known to themselves , he lamented,” According to him although some people can commit offences and run away with it , it was more dangerous to be a fake pastor considering the repercussion involved. Pastor Olumide Emmanuel was speaking at the opening of a two day Ministers Summit in Accra on Ministers' Mistake's and Ministry in Accra.

“Everybody is now a prophet in Ghana, is Ghana the only dwelling place for

prophets? he asked.

He emphasized the need for those who have genuine call to enter ministry to take their time and get the necessary grooming in order to glorify God through their work. He said the summit was critical to the work of ministers especially when most of them do not go through formal training.

The objective of the two day summit was to highlights and examines some common mistakes pastors make in ministry and to find ways of minimizing such mistakes for the betterment and growth of their church.

It also served as a gathering for co -ministers of the gospel to share experiences and discuss possible ways of growing their church.

About Seven hundred pastors from Accra and its environs attended the summit

which was climaxed with a singles summit on the topic new rules of love, the game is the same but the rules have changed.

The summit which was last held in 2007 is expected to be organized annually in Ghana to help transform ministers to become effective in their calling.

r e d i b l e information gathered by the ChristianDaily Newspaper indicates that the Presiding Bishop of Holy Fire International Church at Takoradi in the Western Region Rt Rev Dr Reginald Ofori-Twumasi might not have died as a result of 21 days fasting as reported earlier in the media.

Sources close to the Church indicates that the 68 year old Bishop has been frail for some time now due to a shift in ministry from pasturing to evangelizing.

According to our sources, the shift in ministry from pasturing the church to full time evangelism which was more demanding might have had a toll on the health of the late Presiding Bishop which could have affected his health.

The Christian Daily also gathers the church has an annual ritual for its leaders to embark on a 21 day fasting in the month of January.

This probably means the 21 Day fasting which ended in the month of January may not be linked to his death at all as reported in a cross section of the media in April.

Attempts by the ChristianDaily to speak to authorities of the church on several attempts have however proved futile due to what they described as negative comments on the story by some prominent men of God after his demise.

The Presiding Bishop's death gained centre staged in public discourse in the country following report of his death with some condemning the manner in which some religious men in the country fast lately.

Bishop Ofori Twumasi passed away at a private hospital at Anaji near Takoradi.

Report carried in a cross section of the media indicated that he told his congregation “He will be back after his 21 day fasting but died a few days after he completed the fasting.

The report went on to say that a member of the church told the media he was admitted at the hospital after the 21 day fasting.

AME Zion Church West Ghana Conference Youth celebrate 50th Anniversary.

he Bishop Administrat ive Assistant of the African Methodist Episcopal (AME) Zion Church, West Ghana Conference, Reverend Mrs. Helena S. Essien has urged the youth to let God be the focus of their lives, to enable them to resist temptations, especially from peer pressure.

She said if the youth allow God to take the lead in all that they do, she hoped it will be well with them, rather than indulge in immoral activities, like drug abuse, internet fraud, popularly known as SAKAWA ,

which at the end of the day, will ruin their lives.

Rev. Mrs. Essien said this in an interview with the Ghana News Agency at the close of a special thanksgiving service to climax activities of a-four day youth conference in connection with the church 50th Anniversary celebration held at Winneba.

The theme of the programme “West Ghana Youth, Building a Legacy with God for Such a Time Like this,” was attended by over 500 youth from the West Ghana Conference of AME Zion Church.

She said AME Zion West Ghana Conference is

made up Churches from Cape Coast, Akim Manso, Agona, Akim Akroso, Sekondi, Wassa, Assin Foso and Winneba.

According to her, the period was used by the youth to take stock of the previous year's activities, formulate policies and strategize to build a legacy with God for the days ahead Rev. Mrs. Essien who deputized for the Presiding Primate of West Ghana Conference, Right Rev. Bishop Dr. Seth Lartey said, as future leaders, the youth need to be properly counseled and directed through the Word of God, to help them desist from all

negative tendencies, else there will be no future for the country.

He advised the youth to give the greatest care and respect to their parents, as well as any person older than them, humble themselves, be truthful and avoid indecent dressing, so that the blessing of God will be upon them always, and it will be well with them.

Earlier, preaching the Gospel on the topic “Give me the Mount, ” Rev. Sylvester Donkoh, District Director of the Cape Coast AME Zion Church, said it was about time as a Nation and people, we must invite

God into our affairs and all will be well with us.

Rev. Donkoh who is also the West Ghana Conference Deputy Youth Coordinator, said with

EDITORIAL Celebrate all Women

T

he celebration of Mothers Day is just one of the special days to recognize the extra ordinary effort of women in the life of humanity worldwide.

It however does not imply that women should only be celebrated on that day, as has been but each and every day for their enormous contribution to development of humanity especially on the African continent.

It is also the occasion that people shower true and false praises on their mums.

But as we just celebrated Mothers Day, there were some group of women who had brought smile and continues to bring meaning into the life of many but because they donot have biological children they felt sidelined on this occasion.

Pause a minute and imagine what went through the minds of women at public events and especially in church on Mother’s Day when some women were invited to come forward for God’s blessing in Church.

Your guess was good as mine but however, The Christian Daily believes it is high time we remove the barrier separating such women and recognize all of them irrespective of their situation.

It is only by doing so that we could help heal some of the emotional trauma we indirectly put those women through on such ocasssions.

It is a known fact women are gifted in managing and bringing life to homes and everywhere they find themselves despite the fact that some women are not living up to expectation.

The ChristianDaily believe we should also not forget to salute some extra ordinary women who are taking care of children with special needs, the bedridden relatives , widows who still manage to raise children with no help just to mention a few.

It is only by doing this that we can have a holistic Mothers Day devoid of regrets and emotional trauma for such extra ordinary women.

W

hat was billed to be a worship night nearly turned into a deliverance session, when Gospel Musician Cecelia Marfo took his turn to minister to the youth of Emmaus Methodist Church at Awoshie –Anyaa in Accra.

Cecelia Marfo who was billed to perform as the main artist for the programme began by performing deliverance services for the youth gathered at the event for more than an hour.

According to her, God ministered to her to perform the deliverance to deliver the youth from various bondage and ailments which was unusual in her entire ministry.

“I did not come here because I want money, but I came because of the youth present adding that this urge to minister to the children was unusual, - she said.

She later treated the enthusiastic crowd to some heart-warming and soul searching worship and praises to bring the programme to a climax.

The six hour programme dubbed Ayeyi 2014 The True Worship was organized by the Methodist Church Ghana Awoshie circuit Youth Ministries Directorate.

The annual programme which was the third in the series to be organized by the youth, saw the Methodist Youth Choir , Envoys of Emmaus , Sister Akosua Boatemaa , Brother Ekow Wobil , Joe De Owusu performing for the night .

Speaking in an interview with the ChristianDaily, the Circuit youth organizer of the Methodist Church Kennedy Kwaku Amissah Dadson said the objective of the worship was to seek the face of God to transform the lives of the youth.

‘Looking at the present age, we are surrounded by issues of immoral activities paramount among them fornication and it is our prayer that the youth will abstain from fornication, he said.

in spirit, he added.

Ghana’s problem? Try the Bible public, private, church and non-profit actors, through discussing the Bible’s emphasis on integrity, compassion and justice in leadership.

There is the ABLI Forum. It gathers leaders from across the continent of Africa and takes place over two days before the African Union Prayer Breakfast. The intention is that various audiences coming together will discuss the wisdom and guidance that the Bible can offer leaders in terms of their contribution to socio-economic development, justice and integrity. Its Chief Campaigner is Lord Paul Yaw Boateng, the Ghanaian-British member of the UK House of Lords. His father was the late Mr Kweku Boateng, a former Minister in the first Republic of Ghana.

ne question comes up every time the media have the opportunity to encounter the Christian community: “How come that in spite of the proliferation of churches, sin, corruption, wickedness – in short, evil – abound? Invariably, there comes a followup question.

In tones that mimic the taunt of the other thief on the crucified Jesus’ left at Calvary, they ask: If Christianity is the answer to the world’s problems, how come it has not been able to save itself?”

The Bible Society of Ghana is in the process of putting forth an initiative that answers these questions and seeks to emphasise that the above goings-on in the Christian community are an aberration; that they are actually the exceptions, not the norm.

Like the stance of a former head of Scripture Union (the late Kweku Hutchful), the Bible Society is insisting that “The Bible is still the answer for the world today”. Confronted by journalists who had gone condemning Christianity because Christians were “worse sinners”, Hutchful did not speak; he gave each of them a Bible and asked them to read the New Testament.

At the individual level, cynics in Africa turn to the failure of leadership.

They point at the fact that more than 50 years after Africa attained nationhood – proud to declare that the African is capable of solving his own problems – the continent is a failure. Economically, scientifically, industrially, socially and even morally, Africa seems to be either marking time or is trotting on the same spot. Indeed, as a people, Africans seem to be moving backwards. Even the most buoyant African economies are in the throes of crime and social turmoil.

Search for solutions In the search for solutions, we have changed governments, both by the barrel of the military adventurer’s gun and by the ballot box. Economically, we have tried all the paradigms between socialism, capitalism and all. The result is that we have proved incapable of feeding ourselves, housing ourselves and managing anything.

All these, people say, point to failure of leadership.

Where is the solution? It certainly is not coming from the so-called advanced or industrialised Europe, North America or the Asian Tigers. They are having their own battles, albeit social and moral, including dismembered families, single-parent societies where young people lack parental guidance, gayism, pedophilia, name them.

So where can Africa turn to? Again, for an answer, the Bible Society is holding forth the Bible, asserting that it contains all the answers the world seeks. And they are determined to convince Africa to give the timeless principles of the Bible a try.

This move to convince Africa to turn to the Bible for answers has been going on for some time now. It began in 2009 when a coalition of Bible societies and church organisations decided to form a partnership and establish a project under the United Bible Societies to use the Bible as a tool for leadership transformation in Africa.

ABLI This initiative is called the African Biblical Leadership Initiative (ABLI) project. Its aim is to engage and empower a broad audience of African leaders, from

Format The format of the forum centres around short presentations, followed by focused conversation on the role of the Bible in the African society.

The inaugural ABLI Forum took place in Addis Ababa in Ethiopia in 2010. The city re-hosted it in 2011 and Kampala, Uganda, had its turn in 2012. There was no conference in 2013.

Ghana has been chosen to host the 2014 ABLI Forum slated for May 22 through to May 24 at the Accra International Conference Centre.

To be formally opened by President John Dramani Mahama, the keynote speakers will include Lord Paul Boateng, Rev. Dr Robert Cunville, the President of the United Bible Societies; Rev. Rose Hudson-Wilkin, Chaplain to Parliament, UK; and other renowned personalities.

Daily over its three-day duration, key professionals and prominent clergymen will make presentations on various topics representing the forum’s emphasis on corruption, bribery, press freedom, governance and integrity in leadership.

There will be related topics such as counselling and trauma healing. Some of the presenters are Emmanuel Baba Mahama, Pastor Mensa Otabil, Yaw Buadu Ayeboafo, Vicky Wireko, Professor Akosua Perbi and Dr Araba Sefa Dedeh.

What happens after the three days?

Will ABLI become another talk shop? As has been pointed out by the ABLI Ambassador, Mr David Hammond, ABLI is not an event; it is a process. With the aim to let the biblical principles live in the hearts of the people and guide them all year round, there will be seminars on specific issues that will be raised at the workshops.

Convinced that adults who cherish family life are less likely to involve themselves in scandals, a number of workshops and seminars will be mounted to treat topics on family life.

In the course of the year, the ABLI organisers will follow through to ensure actions on scandals that break out in the media, including Anas Aremeyaw Anas’ exposes at DVLA, corruption at CEPS, the rot at the Mental Hospital and Osu Children’s Home and the promised actions against institutions implicated in the GYEEDA Report, among others.

Head of the Sakumono branch of Fountain Gate Chapel Pastor Isaac Mensah gave the caution at the opening of this year’s Holy Ghost Action Campaign Conference of the church at Sakumono in the Greater Accra Region.

The three-day conference under the theme “”God of All Possibilities”” is aimed at raising seasoned leaders and

develop leaders who would proclaim Christ Jesus and also pray for peace and stability of the nation.

Pastor Mensah appealed to such leaders to have the welfare of the people at heart and also desist from the practice which have become a means for ministers to extort money from members.

He further advised politicians to demonstrate a high level of tolerance to ensure that there was always peace in the country.

ana Oyi-Lithur, Minister of Gender, Children and Social Protection, says the ministry is committed to empower the vulnerable and excluded persons with disability in the society towards sustainable national development. She said the ministry is also engaging with development partners and Ghana Health Service to support the training of geriatric professionals to cater for the medical needs of the elderly.

Nana Oyi-Lithur made this known while addressing the aged at Akoto-Lante and Chorkor in Accra at the weekend who were registered free of charge by the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS). The exercise which was organised by the Ministry of Gender, Children Social Protection in collaboration with the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) will be under taken in other communities such as Bukom, Ashaiman, Nima, Teshie and Nungua and the nation at large.

She said the exercise forms part of the ministry's social protection mandate which is the responsibility towards the elderly to safeguard their rights, freedom and welfare provided by the 1992 Constitution. “The ministry is ensuring an effective implementation of the National Ageing Policy and has also established an Ageing Desk to addressed issues related to the elderly.

Rotary Club, Accra provides library for school.

he Rotary Club of AccraDzorwulu, has funded the painting of six classrooms and provided a library and books to the Dzorwulu ‘A & B’ public primary school in Accra. The cost of the project is estimated at about GHc10,000.

Inaugurating the library on Friday, Ms Yvonne Ablorh-Quarcoo, President of the Rotary Club of Accra-Dzorwulu said the donation was in line with Rotary International’s objective of promoting education and literacy.

She said the Rotary Club of AccraDzorwulu, which was chartered as the 33rd in Ghana on March 21, 2014 undertook the project to coincide with its inauguration into the Rotary International fraternity.

Ms Ablorh-Quarcoo said classroom libraries were concepts, which the Club had adopted in promoting and encouraging reading amongst students and also to bring the books right to the

tables of the students.

“We are happy to be associated with Dzorwulu A & B School right in the community we are.

Rotary is about engaging our communities to scale any barriers to health, education and poverty.

It is our intention to undertake other projects in this school in the coming months,” she said.

She explained that the Club chose the school as a beneficiary of the project because it is the only public primary school within the vicinity.

The Rotary is an international service organization aimed at bringing together business and professional leaders to help provide humanitarian services, encourage high ethical standards in all vocations, and help build goodwill and peace in the world.

he Assemblies of God Church (AG) has expressed concern about indiscipline and high rate of corruption which had eaten into the fabric of society.

It said the alarming ills in society in the midst of outspread of churches were an indication that the clergy had failed in carrying out the end time biblical responsibilities.

Reverend John Felix Kwaku Yeboah, newly appointed Brong-Ahafo Regional Superintendent of the Assemblies of God, raised the concern in an interview in Sunyani. cancer in local communities. Rev Yeboah said the trend could reverse if churches begin to concentrate on salvation and holiness rather than prosperity, healing and miracles.

He cautioned the public to be wary of false prophets and teachers who had entered into Christ Ministry with the aim of acquiring wealth by duping people.

The Rev Minister said if care was not taken the country would be starved of leaders with integrity and patriotism.
