MENTORSHIP, THE WAY FORWARD FOR CHURCHES - Aps. Dr. Opoku Onyinah

T

he Chairman of the Church of Pentecost and President of the Ghana Pentecostal and Charismatic Council (GPCC) Apostle Dr Opoku Onyinah has entreated churches in the country to work towards attaining perfection and not compromise on challenges they encounter.

He said churches must come to the realization that the Lord Jesus Christ, who is their head, is a perfect God and he is constantly tendering his flock who have submitted to him in order for them to also attain perfection at His coming. He noted that Jesus is doing this through his ministers whom he has called and have also submitted to similar discourse therefore constant fellowship and interaction among churches in Christendom will lead to the anticipated perfection.

The Chairman said this at the annual national delegate conference of the Ghana Pentecostal and Charismatic Council which was held at the headquarters of The Apostolic Church of Ghana on Tuesday, September 9th, 2014. The conference which was on the theme; “Inspiring

Kingdomm i n d e d Living for National Developme nt“ was used to deliberate on issues that affect the council and also intercede for the nation.

Dr Opoku Onyinah, explained that every Christian must submit under the mentorship and guidance of church leaders who have the spirit of fathering and mentoring so as to prosper in their Christian walk and avoid ignorance and breaking down spiritually.

Using Jesus as an example, he explained the importance of fellowship and association among churches by indicating that though Jesus was fully God, at a point in his ministry, he demanded from his disciples what people thought of him. The response from Peter reenergized him physically for the work ahead. “Sharing problems lead to problem solving and results, therefore, we should not pretend to be self-sufficient; even Jesus needed some form of encouragement at some point in time”, he stated.

He added that fellowship and association with other churches in the Christian faith results in supernatural encounter which is needed for growth, in this vein, churches should avoid operating in isolation and interact with the council in times of need. He urged pastors in the council not to hesitate to consult the leaders for fatherly

counsel and direction when the need arises as it is an integral part of the responsibilities of the council.

Speaking on the topic, “mentoring”, the first Vice President of the Council who is also the Founder and General Overseer of the Royal House Chapel International, Rt. Rev. Sam Korankye Ankrah, said it is necessary for every Christian to submit to Christian fathers to be raised and guided into salvation and discipleship.

He pointed out that mentoring serves as a covering over the individual, enabling them to stay away from riotous lifestyles and acts that does not befit Christ. “A Christian who does not submit to following and learn from people ahead of them is always found wanting even when there is enough and appear dead even when they are still living”, he explained.

He illustrated with the story of the prodigal son in Luke Chapter 15:11-32 that when the son isolated himself from the covering of his father, he faced numerous challenges which included extreme poverty and rejection.

This, he said was as a result of failure on the part of the son to submit under guidance of his father, yet when he recovered his senses and went back home, his life was changed for the better.

According to him, GPCC is ready to offer shelter for any of the member churches that comes to it for either spiritual or physical assistance, therefore, pastors should make use of the council. He enumerated, among other things, the inspiration for greater works, direction and leadership, protection and covering and knowing the principles of a successful ministry as some of the benefits one stands to achieve as member of the council.

He advised pastors not to carry the burden of their churches by themselves but rather share through consultation and interaction so that they can have well established churches. The conference was well attended by heads of Pentecostal and charismatic churches in Ghana.

Ghanaians need the Presence of God.

he Darkuman District Pastor of The Church of Pentecost, Rev. Samuel Berko, has called on Ghanaians to be guided by God's word in all their undertakings in order to enhance the development of the country. Speaking at the justended August Convention organized by The Church of Pentecost in Accra, Rev. Berko said with God in the driving seat of affairs, the nation would overcome all challenges.

“The country will meet the targets of our developmental efforts and enjoy all we are

looking for as a nation if we place God first in our national affairs. The Lord should, therefore, be at the centre of all national plans, and we need to invite him not only at the individual level but also at the national level,” Rev. Samuel Berko noted, saying “With God's presence, all things are p o s s i b l e . ” Preaching on the theme: “ Wa l k i n g U n d e r t h e supernatural presence of God,” the Darkuman District Pastor asked Ghanaians to desire to walk under the presence of God

in order to attract His blessings.

He underscored the need for Ghanaians to seek God's intervention in all their endeavours, stressing that, it was incumbent on Christians to propagate the word of God instead of pursuing their selfish i n t e r e s t s .

Pastor Berko said Ghana is destined to be on top of Africa and must be recognized as such by the leaders of the country. He called on the leaders of Ghana, whom God has entrusted and committed the country's destiny into their hands to handle the resources of

the country with concern to reduce the economic challenges the citizenry was goingthrough.

He prayed for the progress, prosperity, peace and unity of Ghana and asked for God's wisdom and blessings to flourish on the land and on citizens of Ghana in order to reduce the hardship in the country.

Rev. Berko, further prayed for the government, the Public and Private Institutions, Political Parties, Civil Society and Social groups in the country against evil and divine protection, and asked citizens not to relent on their efforts in prayers.

former Christian Education Director of the Ghana Baptist Convention, Reverend Dr. Edward Osei-Bonsu, has described as unnecessary, the ban on handshakes and hugs by some churches due to the Ebola o u t b r e a k .

Some churches in the capital- Accra, have reportedly directed their members to stop exchanging pleasantries through handshakes and hugs as part of measures aimed at preventing an outbreak of the deadly Ebola disease in Ghana.

The disease has, so far, claimed over 950 lives in four West African countries, including, Guinea,

Liberia, Sierra Leone and Nigeria. Ghana has, as yet, not officially recorded a case of the disease, with the Ghana Health Service revealing that all 37 suspected cases tested turned out to be negative.

This has not stopped some churches from banning handshakes, which the WHO says is one way the disease is transmitted, amongst their congregations. However, Reverend Dr. Osei Bonsu insists that the Baptist Convention will only replicate such a measure if the church suspects a member o f h a v i n g t h e d i s e a s e .

he Christ Apostolic Church International (CACI) has ended a week long prayer conference with a call on Christians to use the gifts bestowed on them by God to transform the nation.

Apostle Stephen Kwame Ntow Amoani, Chairman of CACI, made the call when he addressed the closing ceremony of a fasting and prayer meeting organized by the Church to pray for the nation, the people and its leaders.

“We can achieve our target of transforming the country by releasing the God given potentials such as the talents, substances, special expertise and skills for the benefit of the Ghanaian society and humanity”, Apostle Amoani said.

The week-long conference which was as on the theme: '' Be an Agent of Transformation” was attended by members from the Ashanti, Brong-Ahafo, Western, Northern, Upper West and Upper East regions.

“It is time for Christians in leadership to rise and fight corruption to the roots, time for Christians to be selfless and serve humanity in all humility and time for Christians to be icons and role models through the exhibition of their Godly character,” Apostle Amoani said.

“The world is watching for us Christians to be revealed as we grow in Christ on this earth to be agents that bring transformation God can use us to become the transformers of our dear country to reach the desire target”.

Apostle Amoani expressed regret that Ghana's situation was challenged though the nation was blessed with several natural resources and said 'this is the time that we must all contribute our quota in re-building the country”.

Bishop George Agyemang, General Overseer of Winners Chapel Ghana has called on Christians to refrain from acts which hinder national development. He said Christians will be doing a disservice to God if they do not allow the teachings of Jesus Christ to reflect in their daily activities.

Bishop Agyemang made the call at the end of the church's Fun Games at the El-Wak Stadium in Accra on Saturday. he year 2014 will go down in memory lane as one of the challenging years in the history of our beloved country Ghana.

A number of incidents have occurred within the last five months which some have described as unpleasant. Talk about the gymnastics and drama and the brouhaha surrounding the Ghanaian economy and its rippling effects. The scare of Ebola outbreaks coupled which claimed many lives in Guinea and neighboring countries all in West Africa.

The Shooting of New Patriotic Party Supporters at the NPP rally in Tamale coupled with the Komfo Anokye missing dead baby Saga just to mention a few .

But worrying enough is the rate at which some Ghanaians both ordinary and prominent have passed away in bizarre circumstances.

Mention can be made of BBC‘s Focus on Africa Presenter Komla Afeke Dumor, Fashion Designer Kofi Ansah, Former Vice Chancellor of the University of Ghana, Professor Kwadwo Asenso –Okyere , GTV Movie Chartroom Presenter , Irene Asante, Chairman of the National Development Planning Commission, Paul Victor Obeng, who passed away just a few days after the National Economic forum .

But one question that we all need to ask ourselves is whether we are ready to join our maker any time our maker calls us to our eternal rest.

It does not matter whether you are old or young, the good book makes us understand in Hebrews 9:27 that "It Is Appointed for Men to Die Once and After This Comes Judgment" Again we are told in 1 Thess 4:13 “that you may not grieve as others do who have no hope.”

We are allowed to mourn. But, because of the hope that we have, which goes beyond the grave we don’t go about it in the same way as those who believe that death is the final end for us all.

The ChristianDaily believes for us to mourn and still be joyful calls for individual effort in having a better relationship with our maker.

Are you in a good relationship with your maker such that when the Lord calls you today we can confidently mourn not like the God book says others do? Latter Day Saints Church Donates Blood.

The Koforidua District branch of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints has donated 70 units of blood to the Blood Bank of the Koforidua Regional Hospital as part of activities marking the Community Service Day of the Church.

Before the blood donation, about 500 members of the Church had spent four hours of weeding the hospital and cleared choked gutters, trimmed flowers and hedges and cut the lawns of the hospital.

The exercise was in response to a request by the Church in Africa for all its members to offer services to the members of the community where they live in fulfillment of the example of Jesus Christ who came on earth to render service to humanity.

The Koforidua District of the church is made up of the branches at Koforidua, Effiduase, Adweso, Oyoko, Maase and Suhum. Nana Baffour Takyi of the Blood Bank thanked the Church

for coming to the aid of the blood bank at a time when the bank's stock was low. He that about two years ago when the blood bank was in crisis and made an appeal for help, the Church donated some units of blood to help save the situation.

Nana Baffour Takyi appealed to the church to consider signing a Memorandum of Understanding with the Blood Bank for them to organize blood donation every six months for the hospital so that in return, anytime any member of the church was in need of blood, that fellow would have the opportunity to receive any quantity without replacement.

He called for more organizations to regularly volunteer to donate blood to the Blood Bank so that, the Blood Bank would be in a position to offer blood to the patients of the hospital without the need to demand replacement.

Salvation Army Youth donate to Orphans.

The youth of Salvation Army Church at Beposo in the Sekyere Central District of the Ashanti Region has presented stationery items worth GHC 450 to selected orphans at Beposo. All the 46 beneficiaries had 10 exercise books each.

Speaking at a short ceremony during the donation, Mr Kofi Oti, Youth Organiser of the church, said the donations were to support the pupils' education.

Mr Joseph Yaw Owusu, who deputized for the district director of ducation, thanked the group for the assistance and appealed to other organizations and individuals to emulate the donors.

On behalf of her colleagues, Faustina Amponsah, a pupil at Beposo Moslem Mission Junior High School, thanked the Salvation Army Youth for their kind gesture and appealed to others to come to their aid.

Pastor Kingsley Appiagyei, Senior Pastor of the Trinity Baptist Church (TBC), has advised Christians not to corrupt their moral principles in spite of the hardships and the temptations of the times.

In a world where it is trendy for people to keep their options open towards achieving their goals, Christians are mandated to live above reproach in obedience to the word of God, Pastor Appiagyei said, in a

sermon to launch this year's Integrity Conference, at the Ghana Church, Oasis House, Legon.

“The end of the matter; all has been heard.

Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the whole duty of man. For God will bring every deed into judgment, withevery secret thing, whether good or evil”, he quoted Ecclesiastes 12:13-14”.

Consequently, he said, Christians in making decisions or taking actions regarding all endeavours of their lives, should consider the resultant legacies

by which they would be remembered by heaven, their families, friends and their nations, and choose the way of righteousness.

The Koforidua Diocese of the Anglican Church and the Obo Archdeaconry of the Church has presented Gh¢ 2,000.00 to the Kwabeng Anglican Secondary Technical Senior High School. The amount is to help defray some of the cost incurred by the school in caring for 29 students who were admitted at the Koforidua Regional Hospital after a motor accident.

The students were on an excursion to Boti Falls and on their way back the school bus in which they were travelling skidded off the road and entered the bush at Nsubeto on the Mamfi-Koforidua highway.

One female student died and 29 of them were hospitalized at the Koforidua Regional Hospital.

Presenting the cheque to the school on behalf of the church the Archdeacon of Obo , Venerable Jonathan Mills-Odoi said the school fell under the jurisdiction of the Obo Archdeaconry and so members of the Archdeaconry in particular and the whole Anglican Diocese of Koforidua felt the need to support the school and the parents of the students to care for them. He assured the students and the management of the school of the continuous prayers of the church for the school.

The cheaque was received on behalf of the students, their parents and the management of the school by the Headmistress of the school, Mrs Elizabeth Gadagliu-Dzade who thanked the church for their support and prayers. All the students have been discharged from the hospital and they are doing well.

Global Evangelical Church ‘Stop Chasing

ordains 25 pastors

The Global Evangelical Church on Sunday ordained 25 pastors with a call on them to depend on the direction of God in the performance of their duties in the Ministry. The pastors successfully served on probation for two y e a r s .

In a sermon on the theme: “When God speaks,” Right Reverend Dr Emmanuel Komla Gbordzoe, former Moderator of the Church, urged Christians to seek the direction of God in all things. He said it is important for the Christian to discern the voice of God in all actions and avoid being led into sin by voices that are opposed to the will of God. Rt Reverend Gbordzoe said to be successful Christians one must be able to identify and sidestep the control of misleading voices. He said while God speaks to everyone, most are unable to listen because of the contrary voices, which make them confuse and redirect their focus from the will of God in their personal, business and spiritual life.

Rt Reverend Gbordzoe said the wide spread deviant behaviours such as sexual immorality, inordinate craze for money and occultic practices being exhibited by humanity because of physical needs call for action from all.

He said sticking to immoral behaviours retard progress in the ministry, business and personal life, adding that Christians must recognise and deflate unholy practices through the word. All the ordained pastors signed legal documents enjoining them to work for the Church in various parts of the country and perform pastoral duties.

The Deputy Director of Biblical Research Institute of the Seventh Day Adventist (SDA) Church worldwide, Pastor Kwabena Donkor, has advised Christians to stop chasing signs and wonders but allow signs and wonders follow them to bring harmony into the c o u n t r y .

According to him, “Currently, there are a lot of revival and prophesies going on in the world, but it must be noted that the true revival comes from the word of God.” He pointed out that Christians have to be told the truth that they have a responsibility to live a life that will highlight Jesus Christ, since “righteousness exalts a nation.”

Pastor Kwabena Donkor made these remarks when delivering a sermon during this year's South Ghana Conference of the SDA which was attended by members from Tema Central, East and North Districts as well as Doryumu in the Shai-Osudoku District of A c c r a .

The six-day conference, themed “Revival and the prophetic truth,” held at Doryumu, drew Adventists from various parts of the Tema region. It was aimed at helping members of the church to renew their spiritual lives.According to Pastor Kwabena Donkor, “Revival does not always come in a spectacular form. Christians must desist from chasing miracles and rather concentrate on how to cause positive change in their own small ways to bring harmony into the c o u n t r y . ” He emphasised that Christians must seek Christ in all their endeavours and they would get the answers to all the challenges confronting them. The Deputy Director of Biblical Research Institute admonished Christians to champion what are virtuous to serve as a motivation to others to follow.

He said although seeking miracles is not a bad thing, “the miracles should come as a result of hearing and believing the word of God.” The Deputy Director wondered why some Christians spend time in churches to have an encounter with God and after that go to engage in anti-social behaviours like bribery, corruption, stealing, littering the environment, among others.

Pastor Kerphas Gyamfi of the Tema Central District of the SDA, who spoke about searching for the root cause of a problem – relating it to the situation in Ghana – noted that there was too much bitterness, disunity, tribalism and disrespect for the elderly in most Ghanaian societies. He called for a change of attitude, adding that “People could conveniently call into radio stations and insult elderly people without any feeling of guilt, all in the name of politics.”

Pastor Gyamfi cautioned the media not to allow their platforms to be used to promote indiscipline so that the country is not plunged into chaos.

embers of the Methodist Church of Nigeria, Diocese of Lagos are currently divided over the reinstatement of a former pastor, Abayomi Okesanya, who was initially suspended for alleged adultery.

The church, which is located at No 18 Ereko Street, Idumota, Lagos, has Rev. Moses Adebayo Siyanbola as presbyter and minister in-charge of the circuit.
