SELECTORS ANNUAL REPORT 2024/25
I would like to express my gratitude to the members of the CHBC Open Selection Committee: William Harkins, Ken Sherwood, Margaret Ras, Mike Brien, and Toni Pollock
Over the past 12 months, the Committee has dedicated significant effort to selecting teams and players for all Pennant Competitions, social bowls, and selected special club events Early in my tenure, I recognised that team selection is a complex responsibility. The process requires careful consideration and substantial time, with all decisions made impartially and without favouritism.
During the year we competed in four separate Pennant Competition – Open Gender, Single Gender - Women’s & Men’s and Open Mid-Week.
We started early in our preparation for the main competition of the year - Open Gender Pennants.
We invited Barrie Lester and Corrie Wedlock to discuss their bowling careers, preparation routines, and approaches to the mental aspects This was followed by an on-the-green demonstration in which they showcased shot selection over several ends while competing against each other.
We conducted five weeks, two days a week, of varied practice drills as well as two external trial games (against Asquith and The Hills) and culminating in an internal trial
The launch theme, 'Charging Toward A Pennant Flag,' was inspired by the Castle Hill Bowling Club's on-green identity, the ‘Chargers’.
Our greatest success was when Grade 3 won the 2024 Metro Northwest (MNW) Open Gender Pennant flag and then reached the Quarter Finals in the State playoffs held in Yamba.
Further highlights included winning the Pennant Cup and Grade 7 making the MNW Open Gender finals.

SELECTORS ANNUAL REPORT 2024/25
It was extremely pleasing to see the large number of members who nominated for Pennants this year All participating players represented the club in a manner consistent with its values and standards
It was also great to witness several newer club members of both genders representing the club not only in Pennants but also in regional events
We are eagerly anticipating the completion of the new covered green, along with the upgraded competition lighting on green two, which will provide greater flexibility in scheduling both social and competitive games Having both greens largely available again after a challenging year will be well received, and we appreciate all members' patience and understanding throughout this period.
I would like to extend my appreciation to our selectors, umpires, coaches, match committee, side managers, social bowls coordinators, and the Region delegates for their consistent diligence in fulfilling their responsibilities. The dedicated efforts of these volunteers collectively ensure that all Club bowlers enjoy an optimal experience each time they participate
Appreciation is extended to the BAC for their support.
This year, we have clearly demonstrated our competitiveness relative to other clubs. With the addition of our new bowling facilities, we are well positioned to attract new members, further strengthening the club at every level I am highly confident that we will achieve continued success in 2025/26
Go
Chargers, Roger Newman Chair - Open Selection Committee

Castle Hill Bowling Club currently has 5 coaches: 4 men and 1 woman:
Jeff Everett
Eddie Lowe
Col O'Connell
Rhonda White
William Harkins
Paul Hodkinson has completed the online course but has not yet attended the practical.
The club needs at least two more coaches, preferably one man and one woman. It would also be useful to have an additional coach who can handle and coach how to use a bowling arm
Currently undergoing coaching: Bob Murray, coached by Eddie Lowe
Eddie Lowe Chair of Coaches

UMPIRES ANNUAL REPORT 2024/2025

Unfortunately, we lost our devoted and ever keen bowls member and Umpire, Stan Oznobyshyn this year. He is sadly missed, not only for his dedication and willingness to assist in his Umpiring duties but also for his friendly and personable nature within the Bowls Club.
Also, a big thank you to Bob Spicer for his commitment and support in Chairing the Umpires Committee up until the end of March 2025.
On behalf of all our members and Committees, I would like to personally thank all our umpires over the last few months that I have taken on the interim role of Chairperson for their support and willingness to step up and help with the Umpiring duties
I believe all Championship and Pennant games requiring Umpires were covered by our Umpires in a professional and proficient manner
