Preparation of the

HANDLOOM

The last step before weaving is setting up the weaver’s beam on the loom which is done by threading each yarn end through a heald which works with the shafts and a reed which is used for pushing the weft yarn into the perfect place. The process of passing the yarn ends is called Pinning and pulling it out of the heald is called Drawing of the yarn. The selection of heald frames and harnesses for individual warp threads according to the design is called Drafting of the design. After drafting, pinning and drawing the yarn ends through the healds and the reed, it is tied on the warp beam and tightened to achieve a constant tension throughout the width of the warp.
