CON The craft of weaving in Himachal is widespread and has found sanctuary in every household of the state that practices this art like their daily lives. Some of them have made it a part of their everyday chores. It holds together the people and the culture in its long history of arrival and transformation throughout decades. It also provides the insight as to how different cultures merged in and joined hands to CLU form this world famous weaving craft into what we see today. It has become a livelihood for hundreds of people living in the state and has succeeded in providing employment to even those who came later from other parts of the country. A craft, like all arts, does not discriminate. A craft accepts all as one people, and gives them sanctuary between its web, to live and prosper. And furthermore, through different clusters, this craft has found the recognition that it had lacked and has evolved under influential weavers and designers to fit the demands of the modern buyers. It has also formed a bridge towards sustainability of the environment and of the people. The budding industries made sure they used SION environment friendly methods of developing yarns and weaving shawls using pure fibres obtained directly from herders in highlands such as Ladakh. They have also increased job opportunities by employing weavers to weave on handlooms instead of using machine looms. This step further helped to preserve the authentic hand woven shawls.
