What Is Your Superpower?

I

have been obsessed with this question since it was posed to me about a month ago. In my Chamber and personal world, I find that I surround myself with individuals with varying superpowers. Mine, I have been told, is being a business builder or a visionary. In my household, I have an organizer and my son — humor. My parents, in my opinion, were strength and calm and kindness/nurturing. The superpowers of my board of directors run the gamut: Nora Amato negotiator, approachable, analyzer, time manager, compassion/ understanding, generosity, simplifying the complex, historian and caring, to name a few. My assistant director, Krysta, is fearless in facing a challenge — dauntless. In asking this question of our Chamber members at large, I got more answers: supportive, intuitive, positive, networker/connector, friendly, kind, their smile, listening, a resource — such insightful superpowers. Calling all superheroes! When you join our Chesterfield Regional Chamber, you get to be a part of this league of superheroes — adding your superpowers to ours. And there has never been a better time to become a member. The Chesterfield Regional Chamber has persevered these past couple of years thanks to the collective superpowers of our members. We’ve faced extraordinary challenges with steely resolve. Today, we are bigger and more attuned to our business community than ever. Looking forward to seeing all of you this spring chesterfieldmochamber.com

and summer at our many events. Hope to see everyone at our 5th Annual Blossom Bolt, our 32nd Annual Spring Golf Tournament and our 35th Annual Summer Concert Series at Faust Park, and so many programs in between. We welcome every single one of you and your particular superpower to our Chamber. No cape required. Nora

CRC Annual Awards M Chesterfield Regional Chamber Award Recipients y journey in the Missouri chamber world began in 2013. I joined two Chambers in the market that I wanted to be in and remember that joining the Chesterfield Chamber of Commerce (now the Chesterfield Regional Chamber) was the best marketing decision I made. I had become part of a large network of businesses – exactly what I needed to grow my new company.

My involvement in the Chesterfield Regional Tony White Chamber has opened so many doors and given me access to our area’s movers and shakers. Nora, our Chamber president, is a master at listening — taking the time to find a committee where you can network with businesspeople. My business is selling produce. As you might imagine, spring is a busy time around the farm world as you are working the soil and starting to plant the first of, hopefully, three season crops. My time was limited, but Nora suggested I join the committee in charge of the Chamber’s annual golf fundraiser. Joining the golf committee gave me access to some very effective business leaders, in addition to a few free rounds of golf at my favorite course, Persimmon Woods Golf Club. Not a bad deal! Selling produce to restaurants and having great relationships with chefs and restaurant owners, I was able to go about my daily business of selling tomatoes — and receive a ton of gift certificates from local restaurants to help the Chamber’s causes. This resulted in me receiving the Chamber’s “Task Master” award. The following year, I stepped up to chair the annual golf tournament and set a record for attendance and fundraising. At Nora’s suggestion, I have used my past experience in publishing to contribute as a member of the committee that publishes this magazine. And, today, I am chairman of the board. I am writing these comments to introduce the winners of our 2021 Chamber Awards, because our award winners are very much like me. They started small, joining the Chamber and attending 12 Out & About | April-June 2022

a few events. And, today, the are among the most involved in making our Chamber the best it can be. We are so grateful to our award winners, but our Chamber depends on the involvement of all of us for its existence. I would like to introduce you to some local business leaders who have gone the extra mile in helping us become the largest chamber of commerce in St. Louis County. Please read their stories, support their businesses — and use them to inspire you to take your involvement in the Chamber to the next level. Congratulations to the winners of our 2021 Chamber Awards! Chesterfield Business Person David Huguelet – Huntington Learning Center Superpower: Always positive The Chesterfield Business Person Award recognizes an individual for their continued support of the Chamber through sponsorship, attendance at events, volunteer time and energy throughout the year. David has grown his involvement a lot since he joined the Chamber. He actively participates in Leads 1 and seeks advice from others and adapts his programs and marketing according to everyone’s input. He is a Chamber Community Partner and takes part in all programs that he can. Business of the Year Mickes O’Toole Superpower: Time management The Business of the Year Award recognizes a business that has gone above and beyond our expectations with outstanding support of Chamber events and programs. Mickes O’Toole is an active Chamber member and takes the initiative to sponsor key programs like the Business Over Breakfast and the scholarship program. They are a Chamber Community Partner. Spirit of Chesterfield Award Syberg’s Bar & Grill Superpower: Perseverance I do not know one business that wasn’t touched by the pandemic — and restaurants were amongst the @chesterfieldmochamber

hardest hit. Syberg’s rallied and even stood with other restaurants to come up with solutions. Hats off to Syberg’s! Task Master Award Holly Perryman – HR Managed Superpower: Listening to understand and support Holly is the chairwoman (second year) of our Business Education Committee, and she has jumped right in and reached out to potential speakers to facilitate and moderate our Chesterfield Community Connections. If you haven’t met Holly yet, you will find her at almost every Chamber event/program — or join the Business Education Committee! She won the Task Master Award in recognition of her tireless efforts, energy and leadership among Chamber members. Service Award Julia Krull – Allen Roofing Friendly and a giver Julia was selected by her organization to take part in Chamber programs. She has shown up and participated in almost every event/program since being handed the reigns. She is an asset to the Chamber — and well-deserving of the Service Award which recognizes a member’s involvement and dedication to the Chamber.

Meagan joined the Chamber last year right before the concert series and never looked back! She sponsored the concerts and was out there every night with her Adamo Amore shop. She also works to make the community a better place by supporting nonprofits. We recognize Meagan as Chesterfield Young Professional of the Year for her tireless work promoting and involving younger members through activities and programs in support of the Chamber.

Chamber Benefit Plan offers small businesses more plan options and lower rates

B

eing a member of the Chesterfield Regional Chamber offers many benefits. Did you know the ability to participate in the statewide Chamber Benefit Plan is one of them? When it comes to providing employees with cost-saving health care coverage, small businesses are at a big disadvantage compared to their larger counterparts. Because of their smaller size, their claims risk pool is spread out across a much smaller employee population. That can result in higher, less stable insurance rates — and fewer viable plan choices. The Chamber Benefit Plan is a multiple employer welfare arrangement (MEWA) designed to enable smaller employers to join together and share in the overall claims risk by being part of larger self-funded pool. Powered by the Missouri Chamber Federation and administered by Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield, the Chamber Benefit Plan is available to small group employers, who: •Are members of a qualifying Chamber of Commerce — like ours; and, •Have 2 to 50 eligible employees. By being a part of a larger, self-funded pool, employers have financial protection backed by Anthem’s stop loss coverage. In addition to financial protection, the Chamber Benefit Plan offers: •Competitive, medically underwritten rates •Fixed, predictable monthly payments •A variety of plan designs, including 10 PPO and three HSA options •Anthem’s Blue Access, Blue Access Choice and Blue Preferred networks •Coverage for claims run-out/terminal liability coverage •Additional savings for dental, vision, life and/or disability coverage •Simple, streamlined administration

St. Louis Senior O 42 This Summer The annual games are beloved for their camaraderie as much as their competition It started as a one-time event in 1980 to commemorate the 100-year anniversary of the Jewish Community Center in St. Louis (the J). “A small committee got together and threw about 20 athletic events at the wall to see what stuck. Then, after the games, as they were having their wrap-up meeting, they were inundated with letters of support,” said the J’s Development Manager Phil Ruben. In these letters, participants in this first — and what was intended to be only — St. Louis Senior Olympics asked the committee to add new events and wrote about family and friends who wanted to participate “next year.” “And here we are, 43 years later, and it’s an annual tradition at the J,” said Ruben, who was the event’s director for many years. What began as a few hundred athletes participating in less than two dozen events, now attracts about 1,500 athletes and volunteers from more than 170 ZIP codes in 12 states competing in upwards of 90 events. This Memorial Day Weekend, May 2630, will mark the forty-second year that the games will take place in St. Louis. (This year would have been the forty-third year of the games, but 2020 was canceled due to the pandemic.) To be eligible to participate, athletes must turn 50 by the end of this year. A lifelong athlete George Ruh has participated in every St. Louis Senior Olympics since 1996. Ruh first learned about the games while playing softball at the J. Never one to shy away from any competition, Ruh thought to himself, “I’ll sign up and see what I can do.” 16

“Everything I signed up for, there was always somebody really nice who would take me under their wing and encourage me. I was blown away by all the help and support I got.”

Challenged by other athletes to participate in sports outside of his go-to basketball and baseball, Ruh has competed in track and field events, softball and football throws, free-throw shooting, racewalking, pickleball, weightlifting and golf, to name a few. A lifelong athlete, Ruh was a standout basketball and baseball player in high school, played some basketball in college, and coached softball and basketball during his 30-year teaching and administration career. Now 79, Ruh coaches pickleball leagues in St. Louis and Florida, and he still plays baseball and softball — “that’s really been @chesterfieldmochamber

my love since I’ve gotten older.” Through the years, Ruh and a group of friends would compete with one another not only at the St. Louis Senior Olympics but at Senior games across the state. “We used to chase each other around; we called it ‘being on the circuit.’ Shot put, discus, softball throw — we’d compete against each other and be friends. After we competed, we’d go out to lunch or dinner,” said Ruh. “We just enjoy the competition, and we enjoy teasing each other. The other thing is we root for each other.” Ruh plans on competing in his twenty-fifth St. Louis Senior Olympics this May. “I’ll try to do pickleball — I’m in the older age group. There aren’t many in that age group, and I know most of them, so they’ll let me catch my breath,” Ruh chuckled, adding that he will likely also participate in the baseball and softball home run derbies, free-throw shooting and weightlifting. But the main draw that keeps Ruh coming

back year after year isn’t the games. “It’s the friendship thing,” said Ruh. “There are just so many people with so many good stories, and I just like being around them.” Try something new every year Gina Bufe also has been an athlete all her life. Growing up, she was a competitive gymnast who earned a college scholarship thanks to the sport. Whether teaching gymnastics or trying something new like bowling or flash mobs, this advanced practice nurse has always prioritized physical activity in her quest to live a healthy lifestyle. So, while watching the 2012 London Olympics a few years shy of her fiftieth birthday, Bufe wondered what sport she would try next. A quick internet search led her to the St. Louis Senior Olympics. “And then I found that it was the birthplace for the National Senior Games,” said Bufe, who competes in both the local and national games. In 1985, a group of seven men and women in St. Louis hosted a meeting of individuals who were conducting senior games in 33 states at the time. That group planned the first National Senior Games, held in St. Louis in 1987. The National Senior Games, a 20-sport competition for men and women 50 and over, takes place every two years in a different U.S. city. In May, 56-year-old Bufe will compete in the National Games in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. Her events are racewalking and table tennis. But her Senior Olympics journey began in 2016, the first year she was eligible to compete. With an eye toward competing at the National Games which limits athletes to two events, Bufe April-June 2022 | Out & About

was excited to discover that the St. Louis Senior Olympics imposes no such limits on athletes. Although she entered her first games intending to only compete in racewalking, Bufe quickly found herself signing up to compete in a slew of other events including cornhole, darts, the soccer kick, the softball throw, the bench press and the football kick. “Each year, I try to do another event that I haven’t done before.” And the choices are many. “Some of our events are little more strenuous, like track and field,” said Stephanie Rhea, event coordinator for the St. Louis Senior Olympics. “But we also have washers and horseshoes and bridge and Mahjong — there’s really something for everybody.” Not sure what to compete in at the games? “Pick one sport you’re interested in, and sign up for that,” said Bufe. “And then, when you’re there, I think you’ll find that spirit of support and camaraderie — and that you’ll be encouraged to actually participate in another sport.” Like Ruh, Bufe cherishes the friendships she has made at the games. “All have such amazing and inspiring stories in their lives outside of Senior Olympics, and I’ve just found a lot of support — a lot of people who are just there to have fun, support each other and promote a healthy lifestyle,” she said. Participating in the games also inspired Bufe to carry on a longstanding Senior Olympics tradition: If you win more than one medal, give one to someone who inspires you. When she donated her hair to Wigs for Kids during the height of the pandemic, Bufe included one of her medals with a note explaining the tradition and why she was inspired by the person receiving the hair donation. She sums up her Senior Olympics experience with this ringing endorsement: “It’s just been a blast. I would like to continue to compete in the Senior Olympics until I’m 105.” In addition to athletes, the J is looking for 300 volunteers to help run the games at multiple locations over the holiday weekend. To learn more about participating or volunteering, visit jccstl.org and search for Senior Olympics or call 314-432-5700.

T

he term “brunch” first appeared in print in 1895 in an article penned by British author Guy Beringer in a publication called Hunter’s Weekly. In his column, “Brunch: A Plea,” Beringer made an impassioned argument for a new meal that provided a kinder Sunday wake-up for Saturday-night partiers. Beringer extoled the benefits of this “hospitable meal.” “Brunch…is cheerful, sociable, and inciting. It is talkcompelling. It puts you in a good temper…it sweeps away the worries and the cobwebs of the week.” He ended with, “I submit it is fully time that the old regime of Sunday breakfast made room for the ‘new course’ of Sunday brunch.”

Brunch enthusiasts would certainly agree but even those who don’t regularly brunch might be looking to share this “hospitable meal” on two spring holidays that seem synonymous with this breakfast-lunch merger: Easter and Mother’s Day. West St. Louis County offers plentiful options for brunching, including some enticing offerings at a few of our Chamber-member restaurants. Defiance Ridge Vineyards “This Easter and Mother’s Day, Defiance Ridge Vineyards will be offering a limited `a la carte brunch menu featuring a variety of low-country style cuisine, such as pork belly and grits and biscuits and sausage gravy. f you suffer from seasonal allergies, pollen is your nemesis. And if you live in the St. Louis region, you’re likely fighting this unwelcome foe for more than eight months of the year.

“In our area, allergy season starts when the tree pollen comes out,” said St. Luke’s allergist and immunologist, Dr. Hassan Ahmad. “Tree pollen — that yellow residue you can see on your car in the spring — is the first pollen of the year, and it usually comes out when things get warm for the first time at Dr. Hassan Ahmad the end of March or the beginning of April. As tree pollen fades away later in the spring and into the summer, you start getting grass and weed pollens which last throughout the summer. And in the fall, you get ragweed.” According to Ahmad, ragweed season is getting longer, especially in the Midwest. “It used to end strictly in September,” he said, “but especially over the last 10 years or so, it’s been getting longer and longer and going into October.” You might think if you are allergic to tree pollen, your allergies will subside when grass and weed pollen take over in the summer. This is likely wishful thinking, said Ahmad. “What I usually find in allergic individuals is that they’re allergic to a handful of trees such as birch or oak or ash, and then they might be allergic to a few grass pollens, and they might be allergic to a couple of weeds and ragweed too,” he explained. “They might not be allergic to every single species, but I usually find they are allergic to at least one species in each category which often makes them allergic to something from that March-through-October season.” One bright spot for local allergy sufferers? “Usually, in December and January, we’ll get a little bit of a break,” said Ahmad.

symptoms. Nasal sprays, such as Flonase and Nasonex, can be especially effective and they are safe to use over a prolonged period of time. But he warns those seeking relief to be careful using Afrin nasal spray which can create problems with long-term use. “If you use it (Afrin) for two or three days, it’s going to make you feel like a million bucks,” said Ahmad, “but if you use it longer than that you’re going to get what they call rebound symptoms — and you’re going to get significantly worse.” So, when should allergy sufferers move on from over-the-counter remedies and seek the help of an allergist? “There are several reasons to see a doctor,” said Ahmad. He said people who have seasonal allergies often wonder if they’re also allergic to something in their home, such as pets and common household dust and molds. “Oftentimes, if you’re allergic to something outside you’re more likely to be allergic to

something inside too,” he said. “And that’s something we can sort out by doing testing in the office.” Another time to seek professional help is when over-the-counter medications aren’t providing enough relief. “You might be reaching a point where we need to do some testing to elicit exactly what you might be allergic to so we can discuss some advanced treatment options such as allergy shots or allergy drops,” said Ahmad. Ahmad said that while over-thecounter medications and nasal sprays act as more of a “band-aid” that allergy sufferers must continually use to cover up seasonal allergy symptoms, shots provide “a more permanent fix.” “You’re not on the shots for life, necessarily,” said Ahmad. “It does take time — but once you stop them, you still feel good long term.” In most cases, Ahmad advises his patients to continue allergy shots for about three years. “The majority of patients, after about three years, are feeling well to the point where they’re not needing the over-the-counter medications anymore or they’re using significantly less,” he said. “Allergy shots are the closest thing we have to a cure. They alter your immune system and make individuals less allergic — and so for that reason, they work very well.” Allergy drops are another effective treatment chesterfieldmochamber.com

that have become a more readily available option for allergy sufferers. “Ten to 15 years ago, allergy drops were more off label, and they were not FDA-approved. But now we’re getting more FDA approvals for oral allergy drops, which are essentially an oral version of allergy shots,” said Ahmad. “The nice thing about that is it provides a lot of convenience: you don’t have to come into the office. It’s something you can do at home, and you can still get good results with those, too.” Ahmad said people with asthma may also benefit from seeing an allergist. “They might find that during the allergy April-June 2022 | Out & About

months when the pollen counts go up, it’s not just affecting their nose and their sinuses but it’s affecting their chest and their lungs,” he said. “If that’s ever happening, you should go see an allergy doctor to try to help you control the allergies better and, subsequently, make sure your asthma is under control.” Beyond medication Although he sees the significant relief allergy medications bring to those suffering from seasonal allergies, Ahmad said everyone can take simple steps to reduce allergens at home. “I wouldn’t discount the non-medical things: household control measures like cleaning the carpets once a week, cleaning the bedding, getting dust covers for your mattresses and pillows, and using air purifiers. These are things that, without putting any medications into your body, can really help you feel better.” What about pets? “My biggest recommendation, if you feel you might be sensitive to your pet, is to keep them off your bed and, preferably, out of your bedroom,” said Ahmad. “That way, when you sleep, at least for those six, eight or nine hours per day, you’re sleeping in a clean environment. It’s very important to give your body a little bit of a break from breathing in those allergens constantly.” Ahmad also said that people who are allergic to their pets are “some of the best candidates for allergy shots because they’re having that constant allergy exposure year-round, and allergy shots can really reduce the amount of allergy you have inside your system.” Dr. Ahmad believes in combining the best that science has to offer, with the art of medicine and compassionate care. Look to the Skies — the Air Sh Back to Chesterfield This Sum

A

fter a three-year hiatus, the Spirit of St. Louis Air Show & STEM Expo is coming back to Chesterfield June 11-12 — and making up for lost time by bringing in the headliner U.S. Navy Blue Angels flying in F/A-18 Super Hornets. Notably, the Boeing fighter jets are made in Missouri. “This will be the first time they’ve flown the Super Hornets here. They are bigger aircraft than they’ve previously flown — and they still fly 18inches apart,” said Mark Sutherland, who handles marketing and public relations for the air show. In addition to the Blue Angels, fans will be thrilled by performances from the Black Daggers, the official U.S. Army Special Operations Command Parachute Demonstration Team. Crowd favorite, Fat Albert C-130J, will be back for the first time since 2016. The F-35A Lightning Demo Team piloted by U.S. Air Force Major Kristin “BEO” Wolfe will perform, along with aerobatic pilot Skip Stewart, the CAF Red Tail Squadron’s P-51 Mustang honoring the Tuskegee Airmen, Matt Younkin in his Beech 18, “Yankee Lady” B-17G, a B-29 “Doc,” the Phillips 66 aerobatic team, and the PB4Y-2 Privateer. “Another very cool addition to this year’s show that I’m excited about is what we’re calling the British Invasion — five classic British fighter planes from World War II that will be flying together,” said Sutherland. The five planes are two Supermarine Spitfires, two Hawker Hurricanes and a de Havilland DH-98 Mosquito. “As an air show, we are definitely the best in the Midwest and top tier worldwide,” said John Bales, president of the Spirit of St. Louis Air Show committee and Spirit of St. Louis Airport director. “We draw the best performers in the world.” Bales said one reason the show is successful at bringing in big-name talent is that “this is the main event,” compared to other events where “the air show is a side event.” Another factor that attracts world-class performers is the show set-up, which allows performers to take off and land at the airport and interact with fans.

36

Out & About | April-June 2022

Bales recalled a conversation he had with the Red Arrows, a headliner at the 2019 air show. “When they flew in New York and Chicago, they were taking off from an airport and flying over water or over the event. They didn’t get to interact with the fans and the kids they want to promote STEM to,” said Bales. STEM Expo: Inspiring the Next Generation While performers such as the Blue Angels and the British Invasion drive crowds to the event, Sutherland said the STEM Expo is “the reason we do this entire air show.” “You look up and you see these amazing aircraft and these amazing pilots, and kids say, ‘I want to be that.’ Well, how do you take that inspiration and that excitement and translate it into some incredibly good goals and impacts on their lives? That’s where the STEM Expo comes in,” said Sutherland. “It’s designed to give them the opportunity to see what could I do? Could I be a pilot? Or maybe I’m not interested in being a pilot. I want to be a mechanic, or I want to get involved in science. It’s that hands-on experience to really try and channel that excitement and take it in a healthy direction — and give them some ideas, some direction and some inspiration.” Bales noted that the air show is a nonprofit committed to “outreach to promote science, technology, engineering and math which are the future, not just for our young people but for all of us.” Exhibitors continue to be added, but the STEM Expo will feature hands-on interactive activities — both aviation and non-aviation — from robots and stomp rockets to a bio-diesel fuel exhibit and a Boeing flight simulator. Pilots, educators and scientists will be on hand to run the activities and answer questions. Bales encouraged students to check the event website for information about an essay/video contest inviting them to share why they’re inspired by aviation. Winners will be invited to a private Friday night event with air show performers — and the top three will have the opportunity to fly with @chesterfieldmochamber

how Is Coming mmer By Carol Enright the Phillips 66 aerobatic team. On-the Ground Attractions “We have probably one of the best world-class airplane static displays,” said Bales. “Airplanes you’ll never see, where you can walk up and talk to the pilots and the crews who fly these aircraft.” The show is also bringing back Patriots Landing, an immersive experience that honors the nation’s veterans and armed forces. With the STEM Expo, Patriots Landing and the static display aircraft, air show patrons will have plenty to do. “You can arrive when the gates open, and you have all these hands-on, interactive elements to experience until the air show takes off in the late morning or early afternoon,” said Sutherland. “Then, with Patriots Landing and the static airplane displays, you have stuff to do after the last plane lands, as well. And we encourage you to stick around after the air show because that means you don’t have to sit in traffic.” Arrive Early Bales and the air show committee are working with the St. Louis County and Chesterfield police departments, the Monarch Fire Protection District and an outside parking vendor to minimize the traffic problems the show has battled in years past. “We’re doing everything possible to make this a guest-friendly, family friendly environment — to make this event the best it can be for the public,” said Bales. Bales encouraged guests to check the air show website for information about road closures, chesterfieldmochamber.com

parking, and entering and exiting the air show grounds. But his best advice for those planning on coming to the show is simple: “Arrive early.” “People who arrive early have no problems,” said Bales. “People who wait until right before the air show starts are going to get stuck in traffic.” Tickets to the air show are on sale now and are only available at spirit-airshow.com/tickets. Tickets will be limited to 22,000 per day, and event coordinators anticipate they will sell out. No tickets will be sold at the gate. Early-bird pricing is currently available, but prices will increase as the event nears. General admission tickets are free to active military with ID. Air show vendors will primarily be cashless, and there will be no ATMs onsite. April-June 2022 | Out & About

It’s No Secret! Franchise Advisors Are Your Best Guide to the Right Investment

I

f you have an entrepreneurial spirit, but have never owned your own business, investing in a franchise offers you the opportunity to be your own boss without building a business from scratch. By partnering with a successful corporate entity, you have a safety net of branding, operations and marketing experts who can help you launch your new enterprise and take your local market by storm. But, do you really know enough about franchise systems, processes, and contracts to make an informed investment? Dick Mueller What if you had the support of a business expert who could guide you on your franchise journey from day one? Who could point you in the right direction long before you ever submit an application or invest a single dollar? And most important, one who would help you determine if the concept you choose is a perfect match – avoiding a pricy mistake. If you’re ready to test the franchise waters, your first call should be to a franchise advisor. With more than 3,000 franchise brands and 70+ business classifications to explore, the franchise advisor can help you narrow down your prospects and land on one that meets your interests, financial investment level and will accomplish your long-term lifestyle goals. What is a Franchise Advisor – And Why Don’t More Entrepreneurs Use Them? A franchise advisor serves as a matchmaker between franchisor and franchisee. While paid by brands to identify qualified candidates who can help them expand into new markets, a Franchise Advisor advocates for the franchisee. The right advisor will get to know you on a personal and professional level to understand your strengths and challenges. From there, they can identify franchise options that align with your goals and break down the pros and cons of each. While partnering with a franchise advisor helps business-owners-to-be avoid unexpected and

expensive surprises, few entrepreneurs reach out for assistance often because they don’t know the service is available. Franchisors, especially those with recognizable brand names, have the marketing budget to target potential franchisees and make it simple to connect online so there’s no identifiable need for a third party. However, without a guide by your side, you won’t know if you found your ideal fit until you’ve invested your time and money. How A Franchise Advisor Can Get You on the Right Track Experienced franchise advisors – in particular, those who have been franchisees themselves and have built a rich network of connections – are an invaluable resource for those new to the market. By partnering with an advisor who has your best interests in mind, you can take advantage of benefits critical to your success as a business owner: • A wealth of concepts to choose from A franchise advisor will educate you on a variety of franchises available – not just the national brands you’re familiar with – but also promising up-and-comers where you get in on the ground floor just as they’re about to take off. With a wider view of the market, you can spot an opportunity you never knew was available. • Unbiased guidance when you need it most The right franchise advisor is more than an intermediary between you and a franchisor. They should be your advocate, providing frank, objective feedback on each franchise you’re considering. In addition, by helping you gain perspective on your strengths and limitations, wants, and needs, you can feel adequately prepared to take the leap into an exciting new venture. Ready to get started? If you are ready to explore your dream of owning your own business, the first step is to connect with a franchise advisor at Franselect.com and complete the online Franchise Selection Tool or call 636-530-6925 to schedule a free consultation. @chesterfieldmochamber
