This Family Fishing Week marks the fourthandfinalperiodforCanadianresidentsto fishforfreethisyear.
Over one million licenced anglers spend $1.75 billion per year on recreational fishing in Ontario.
Canadian residents participating in free fishing periods must carry identification issued by the provincial or federal government, showingtheirnameanddateofbirth.
Many places in Canada are already experiencing high temperatures and above normal temperatures are expectedthissummer.Extremeheatcanputyour health at risk, causing illnesses like heat stroke and even death. It is important to be able to identify the signs and symptoms of heat illness andknowwhatprecautionstotaketoprotectyour health and the health of your family and loved ones.
While extreme heat can put everyone at risk from heat illnesses, health risks are greatest for the older adults, infants and young children, people with chronic illnesses (like breathing problems, mentalillness,andheart problems), people who work or exercise in the
heat, people experiencing homelessness and peoplewithlowincomes.
What are the signs and symptoms of heat illness?
· Heat exhaustion symptoms can include dizziness or fainting, nausea or vomiting, headaches, extreme thirst, dark urine, and decreased urination. If you experience any of these symptoms during extreme heat, immediately move to a cool place and drink liquids.Waterisbest.
· Heat stroke is an emergency. If you witnesssomeonewithcompleteorpartiallossof consciousness,whoisconfused,hasahighbody temperature,orhasstoppedsweating,call911or your local emergency number immediately. Whilewaitingforhelp,takemeasurestocoolthe person right away by moving them to a cooler place if possible, applying cold water to large areas of the skin or clothing, and fanning the personasmuchaspossible.
Duringextremeheat,themostimportant thing is to keep cool and hydrated. Remember thatyoushouldneverleavepeopleorpetsinside aparkedvehicleorindirectsunlight. Stayhydrated

Investment will prepare students for successful futures by training 2,600 teachers in underserved regions
The Ontario government is investing $55.8milliontoexpandteachingtrainingseatsat universitiesacrosstheprovincetostrengthenthe teaching workforce and ensure Ontario has the teachers it needs in underserved and remote communities. This investment will train up to 2,600 new teachers by 2027, building a robust workforce of English and French-language teachersforOntario'sclassrooms.Tosupportthe government's plan to protect Ontario by helping train students for successful careers and goodpaying, in-demand jobs, the funding will be prioritized to support underserved communities as well as programs that will help students gain practicalskills.
“Teachersplayavitalroleinensuringour children receive a strong start to their education and future careers,” said Nolan Quinn, Minister of Colleges, Universities, Research Excellence and Security. “Through this investment, our governmentisprotectingourchildren'sfutureby expanding teaching capacity and bringing more highly qualified teachers to communities across Ontario.”
Inadvanceofthefall2025schoolyear,13 of Ontario's publicly funded universities that offer a Bachelor of Education will receive funding to expand their teaching program. Funding will be prioritized to expand seats at universities with accelerated programs, French and technological education, as well as seats in northern,rural,Indigenousandremoteregionsto add more teachers to regions that need teachers most.

Although The Chapleau Boys Go To War which I co-authored with my cousin MichaelMcMullen,willbeofficiallylaunched during weekend events from July 3 to 5 in Chapleau, a presentation of a copy was to the Cranbrook Public Library which included veteransofCanada'sarmedforces.
First, Cranbrook. I was so deeply honoured to have my good friends, Ron McFarland,whoservedintheRoyalCanadian NavyinWorldWar2andBillNightingale,who servedintheRoyalCanadianAirForcefor33 years accompany me to the Cranbrook Public Library. They joined me in making a book presentationtochieflibrarianUrsulaBrigl.
Ron and Bill represented veterans everywhere for the occasion. I think of it as "When Cranbrook boys meet Chapleau boys andeveryonefromeverywhereinbetweenand beyond".

$4.2 million investment will accelerate nursing programs and create new education seats
TheOntariogovernmentisinvestingover $4.2 million to expand nursing education across the province. These investments will improve accesstocarebyensuringmorenursesaretrained andreadytoworkincommunitiesacrossOntario. “By investing in education and accelerating trainingfornurses,ourgovernmentisprotecting Ontarioandbuildingonourprogresstogrowour nursingworkforceforyearstocome,”saidSylvia Jones, Deputy Premier and Minister of Health. “Theseinvestmentswillhelpensurefamiliescan connect to the care they need no matter where they live, while also supporting the next generationofhealth-careprofessionals.”
Thegovernmentisinvesting$2millionto support the launch of an accelerated registered nursing (RN) degree program at four postsecondary institutions to allow students to complete their undergraduate program within three to three-and-a-half years, instead of four years, enabling nurses to enter the workforce sooner. Conestoga College (Kitchener), St. Lawrence College (Kingston), Western University (London) and York University (Toronto)willreceiveupto$500,000tosupport the development and implementation of the accelerated nursing program, beginning in the 2025–26and2026–27academicyears.
Inaddition,Ontarioisinvesting$750,000 to support the inclusion of RN prescribing education into the undergraduate nursing curriculum at Georgian College (Barrie), Humber Polytechnic (Toronto) and the UniversityofWindsor,enablingnursestoplaya greater role in patient care by prescribing medication. This will make Ontario the first jurisdictioninCanadatoincludeRNprescribing inundergraduateprograms.
“Ontario’s world-class colleges and universities are training the health-care workforce of today, and tomorrow,” said Nolan Quinn, Minister of Colleges, Universities, Research Excellence and Security. “This critical investment will equip our province’s nursing studentswiththeskillsandeducationtheyneedto get into the health-care workforce at a quicker rate and deliver excellent care in communities acrosstheprovince.”
Finally,tosupportaccesstohealthcarein northern and rural Ontario, the province is investing nearly $1.5 million to expand the capacity for nursing programs at Confederation CollegeinThunderBayandCambrianCollegein Sudbury. Through Your Health: A Plan for Connected and Convenient Care, the Ontario government continues to take bold and decisive action to grow the province’s highly skilled health-care workforce and ensure people and their families have access to high-quality care closertohomeforgenerationstocome.
The government is investing $56.8 million over the next three years to support an enrolmentincreaseofnursingspacesatpublicly assisted colleges and universities by over 2,200 registered and registered practical nurses and nursepractitioners.Inaddition,thisfundingwill support continued investments in innovative, flexible,onlinenursingpathways.
Since 2018, Ontario has seen a recordbreaking number of new health-care professionals join the workforce, adding nearly 100,000 new nurses with another 30,000 nurses currently studying at Ontario colleges and universities.
On December 4, 2023, the NursingAct, 1991 was amended to allow RNs in Ontario to prescribe specific medications and to communicate a diagnosis for the purpose of prescribing.
Since expanding the role of registered nurses to prescribe medications, 671 registered
nurses have completed the training and are authorizedtoprescribe.
Ontario is investing $743 million over three years to continue to address immediate health-carestaffingneeds,aswellastogrowthe workforceforyearstocome.

For a second consecutive year, Conseil scolaire catholique Nouvelon ranks third in the province for energy efficiency in Sustainable Schools' 2025 Top Energy Performing School BoardReport.Thisreportanalyzesdatafromthe 2022–2023 school year and ranks Ontario's 72 school boards based on their ability to reduce energy consumption. This recognition reflects CSC Nouvelon's efforts to improve the energy performance of its facilities, aiming for a minimal gap between current consumption and idealstandards.
As a result of the initiatives undertaken since 1990, CSC Nouvelon is recognized for its enduringcommitmenttoenergyefficiency.This achievement relies on the collaboration of janitorial and maintenance staff members who oversee the efficient operation of facilities and support the gradual implementation of
innovative solutions. Among the concrete measuresarethesystematicintegrationofgreen technologies in new constructions and renovations, as well as the implementation of computerized control systems. Furthermore, CSC Nouvelon favors the use of high energyperformancewindowsandroofs,theinstallation of water-efficient toilets, as well as lighting systemsthatconsumelessenergy.
The Board continuously carries out variousrenovationprojects,includingoneaimed at improving the insulation of school exterior wallstofurtherreduceenergyconsumption.Six schools are also equipped with photovoltaic systemswhichenablethemtoproducetheirown electricity. These six systems generate approximately 380,000 kilowatt hours (kWh) annually. CSC Nouvelon is actively committed to continuing its efforts and remain a leader in reducing energy consumption.
