Chapleau turned out in its formal finest and in great numbers. ArenaHallwasfilledforthehottestticketin town. The formal gala was a fundraising event memorializing the 30th anniversary of the tragic death in a housefireofeventorganizersAnnieGilbert'shusbandPauland DianeDaigle-Dinel'sdaughterMelanie.
"Iwasleftheartbrokenwithmy14-month-olddaughter andpregnantwithtwins,saysAnnie. "Duringthatdevastating time, the community of Chapleau showed incredible generosity, offering help and support in ways I will never forget.Whenthe30thanniversarywasapproaching,Iknewit wastimetoreturnandgiveback."
AnnieapproachedDianeandeighteenmonthslaterthe Winter Wonderland Formal was realized, raising $11,963.59 fortheChapleauFirefighterAssociationtocoveraportionof the cost of the new battery-operated Jaws of Life. 25 smoke alarmsweregivenawayattheGalatoanyonewhoneededone.
Gifts were purchased for every resident at the Bignucolo Residence, along with craft supplies, treats for bingo prizes, and $500 in gift cards and cash for the activity department to use as needed. Additionally they delivered 65 gifts to the EarlyON Centre for the Angel Tree program, helpingchildreninneedthiscomingChristmas.
The Legion donated $500 of their bar proceeds to the firefightersaswell.

The Ontario government is investing $575,000 to help Canadian Armed Forces members turn the skills they developed during their service into the postsecondary credits they need to land in-demand jobs. This investment will make it easier and faster for veterans and othermilitary-connectedlearnerstotransitionto civilian life, while building on the province's historic measures and investments to build a strong, resilient workforce that can support the mostcompetitiveeconomyintheG7.

Throughthisinvestment,theOntarioCouncilon Articulation and Transfer (ONCAT) has launched Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition (PLAR) projects at six publicly funded colleges and universities across Ontario, including:FanshaweCollege,GeorgianCollege, Canadore College, Lakehead University, the

University of Waterloo and the University of Windsor Theseprojectsinclude:
· Recognizing the skills and experiences gained from the Canadian Armed Forces as credits toward a university-level Bachelor of Engineering.
· Developing Al-powered tools to automateandspeeduppriorlearningassessmentand recognition processes for military-connected learners.
· Creating a new platform to help postsecondary administrators identify course equivalenciesbasedonmilitaryrecords.
· Creatingacoursecreditbankthatallows veteranstoquicklyidentifyoptionsforaccessing postsecondaryprograms.
· Standardizing the prior learning assessment and recognition of military training and experience.
After a brief battle with cancer Bob decided to proceed with the MAID program on Saturday, November 8, 2025, he wasinhis84thyear PredeceasedbyhismotherMaryWoods, andbelovedsisterSharon.SurvivedbyhissonsDerek,Brent (Priscilla) andTodd and sister Brenda Wasilewski. He will be missedbyhisgrandchildrenRyker,Cam,ColeandJake.Bob will be fondly remembered by his nieces and nephews Stephanie (Bill), Dana (Jordan), Michael (Tina), Jason and Nichol.

Bob was born in Rouyn Noranda, Quebec on November 12,1940andmovedtoChapleau,Ontarioatayoungageand consideredithishome.BobakaBowmanIYKYK,wasanavidoutdoorsman.He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and golf.As known to all, Bob was a diehard Toronto Maple Leaf fan and was a staunch Soo Greyhounds fan and season ticket holder Bob found many summers refuge at Borden/Loon Lake.After 37 yearsofservicewithCPRail,BobretiredtoNorthBay,eventuallysettlinginSault SteMarie.

Campbellhaddischargedhishigh-poweredrifle from the bow of the boat while Desjardins was operatingit.
