The CDCP has been set up similarly to many of the insurance plans you’re already familiar with, making it easy to submit claims and receive rapid reimbursement.Any provider can treat CDCPclients, as long as they agree to directlybillSunLife,whoadministerstheplan.
Theplanwillpayprovidersbasedonthe established CDCP fees for each service that is covered. If you decide to charge more than the establishedCDCPfees,yourpatientswillneedto pay you the difference.You should not ask your patients to pay the full cost of their treatment upfront, as they will not be able to get reimbursed.SunLifewillonlyprovidepayment to providers under the CDCP. Three locomotive engineers with many years of service on the Canadian Pacific Railway "all left the ranks to enjoy retirement", in 1993

which was also an historic moment as they were alsothelastthree"firemen"toleavetherailwayat Chapleau.
TheywereEarleFreeborn,LeoVezinaand Andre(Zenon)Rioux.
An article about them notes that Earle had somethingtoboastaboutashewasneverinvolved in a derailment, runoff or mishap and his record showed no demerit marks over all his 41 years of service.
Earle was also quite involved with the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers as vice chair of the local as well as service on the EAP committee. Earle was written up as an engineer in
1961 became permanent locomotive engineer in 1974.
OnhislastdayofworktripintoChapleau, the article notes that his wife Nancy, daughter Shelley and son David met the train at Esher and drove the rest of the way into Chapleau on it with Earle.
Earle has been very involved in Chapleau community life including service on the Chapleau BoardofEducationandasmayoroftheTownship ofChapleau.
During layoffs which were quite frequent during his early years on the CPR, Leo worked in the icehouse, on the lake and on snow gangs. For many years he was chair of the locomotive engineers local. The article says, "His knowledge andwisdomwillcertainlybemissed."
As Leo retired, he and his wife Joyce also
celebrated 27 years of marriage on April 23 plus their eldest son Chris received his master's degree in biology as Leo made his last trip onApril 30May1.
He added that fishing, computers, and photography would keep him busy as well as keeping track of the children -- Darryl, Deborah, Jen,andChris.
Andre, (known best perhaps as Zenon) startedwiththeCPRasamechanic'shelperin1954 before joining the running trades as a fireman in 1954.
Hebecameafull-timeengineerin1974and "keptthethrottlemovinguntilhisretirement."
On April 15, 1993, he had his last day of work on the CPR and also celebrated his 25th weddinganniversarywithhiswifeJeannine.
Golfing would be his favourite summer pastime and in due course, they moved to North Bay.
IrecalltheinvolvementofEarle,Leo,and Zenon in Chapleau hockey. Earle played and coachedtheJunior"B"HuskiesoftheInternational Junior "B'" Hockey League while Zenon played and was the first trainer of the Junior "B" Huskies whentheteamwasestablishedin1966-67byKeith 'Buddy' Swanson, Lorne Riley, and Tom Welch. Leo played and was great supporter of Chapleau minor hockey. His son Chris played on the ChapleauMidgetteamIcoachedin1982-83.
This threesome are also members of not only Chapleau pioneer families but of CPR familiesinthecommunity.

Intimate partner violence remains a shameful and under-discussed issue in Canada. According to Statistics Canada, between 2009 and2022,18percentofsolvedhomicidevictims werekilledbyanintimatepartner.Thisisalsoa problem that disproportionately harms women, with 46 percent of solved homicides of women and girls being perpetrated by an intimate partner (men killed in solved homicides by an intimate partner is a still significant, but much lower rate of six percent.) The rate of policereported intimate partner violence is more than threetimeshigheramongwomenandgirlsthan among men and boys, and it's increased by an astounding19percentbetween2014and2022.
Intimate partner violence can end in tragedy, but it often doesn't start that way. 95 percent of victims of domestic violence have reported experiencing coercive and controlling behaviourfromtheirpartner.Itcanoftenstartas something small, a comment about what a person is wearing or asking to see a partner's private text messages, but then, over time, can evolve into threats, humiliation, depriving the personofindependence,orworse.Itmaymean preventing a person from contacting family members, controlling their finances, and spendingbytakingtheircreditanddebitcards.It may mean sharing or threatening to share intimate photos, electronic stalking, or even gaslighting a person to confuse or emotionally manipulatethem.
Bill C-332, An Act to amend the Criminal Code (coercive control of intimate partner), is a Private Member's Bill that creates an offence to engage in controlling or coercive conduct that has a significant impact on the health and wellbeing of a person in an intimate relationship.Itincludescriminalizingbehaviour suchascontrollingapartner'sfinances,tracking them, preventing them from accessing transportation, not allowing them to see friends or family, and other significant issues that encompasscontrollingorcoercivebehaviourin a relationship. It's modelled after similar legislation that has been passed in the United Kingdom.
The bill, presented by NDP MP Laurel Collins, came forward following a recommendation from the Justice Committee two years ago. That report, titled The Shadow Pandemic: Stopping Coercive and Controlling
Behaviour in Intimate Relationships, sought to provide guidelines on how the Federal governmentcoulddomoretoendsuchpractices. When presenting the bill, she told the House about a personal instance of her sister being involved in coercive control from a former partner.ItwasapersonalmatterforMPCollins, and unfortunately the story she recounted was notanisolatedincident.
When it was brought to the floor of the House, it was one of the rare instances where a Private Member Bill was passed unanimously, unitingNewDemocrat,Liberal,Conservatives, Bloc,Green,andindependentMPs.Thebillhas been sent to the Senate where it has received FirstReadingwiththehopethattheSenatewill alsoensureitsquickpassage.
Bill C-332 encompasses just part of the committee recommendations on coercive and
controlling behaviour in intimate relationships. The Committee also recommended that “the federal government consider increasing its funding for Canada's Strategy to Prevent and Address Gender-Based Violence to assist organizations working to support victims of coercive and controlling behaviour to deliver adequate levels of support services, such as counselling, housing, and other services aimed athelpingvictimsinre-establishingtheirlives.” Intimate partner violence is complex, and we need a robust support system that will allow peopletoseekmentalhealth,housing,andother forms of support to ensure they can leave those potentially tragic circumstances behind them. Criminalizingcoercivebehaviourisvital,andso is ensuring that the support component is accessible if we are to reduce intimate partner violence.

(NC) Last year, Canada faced recordbreaking wildfires. And, each year, extremeheateventscontinuetoincrease infrequencyandintensityduetoclimate change.Extremeheatandwildfiresmoke can occur at the same time and put everyone’s health at risk. Here are some tipstostaysafe.
Beprepared
Keepindooraircoolandasclean as possible during wildfire smoke conditions. When there’s a heat wave, indoortemperaturescangetdangerously high.Ifyouhaveanairconditioner,make sure to have it serviced annually. Use a good-qualityairfilterinyourventilation system based on the manufacturer’s recommendations or consider using a certified portable air cleaner that can filterfineparticlesfromwildfiresmoke.
Check on those who are in your care, including neighbours, friends or family members, especially those who are more likely to be harmed by heat or smoke, such as older adults, pregnant people and people with chronic health conditionsormentalillness.
Regularly check your local weather forecasts, heat alerts and airquality conditions using theAir Quality Health Index, special air quality statementsorair-qualityadvisories.

When extreme heat and wildfire smoke occur simultaneously, prioritize keeping cool. Drink plenty of liquids, especiallywater,beforeyoufeelthirsty.
It can be challenging to know if you should open your windows for coolingorclosethemduetothesmoke.If you don’t have air conditioning and the outdoor temperature is cooler than the
indoor temperature, opening your windowscanhelpcoolyourhome.Seek out local cooling centres or cleaner air spaces to take a break from the heat or smokeifit’stoowarmtostayinsidewith thewindowsclosedoryoucan’tmaintain cleanairindoorsduringawildfiresmoke event.
Try to reschedule your outdoor activities for a time when conditions are better.Whengoingoutdoors,wearloosefitting, breathable clothing. Use a widebrimmed hat or umbrella and try to stay in the shade as much as possible. If you must spend time outdoors in smoky conditions, wear a well-fitting and properly worn NIOSH-certified respiratororequivalentrespirator(KN95 orKF94)mask.
You should also know and monitor for signs of heat- or smokerelated illness, including irritated eyes and throat, nausea, headache, new or worsened cough, and fatigue. If you’re experiencing these, move to a cool, smoke-free place and drink plenty of liquids.
Moreseveresymptomsofsmoke exposuretowatchforincludechestpain, difficultybreathing,dizzinessorfainting. High body temperature, vomiting, and confusion and lack of coordination may be signs of heat stroke. Heat stroke is a medical emergency. If someone around youexperiencessignsofheatstroke,call 911 or your local emergency number immediately.Whilewaitingforhelp,try to move them to a cool place and apply coldwatertolargeareasoftheirskin.

The Ontario government has issued a Request for Bids to build and operate electric vehicle (EV) charging stations in 15 new underserved and remote areas across the province. Expanding the charging network will makeiteasierandmoreconvenientfordriversto charge EVs outside of large urban centres, reducing range anxiety and supporting the electric vehicle manufacturing industry in Ontario.
“Ontario's future is electric and our government is making it easier than ever to own and operate an EV in Ontario while attracting billionsofdollarsininvestmentsandcreatingtens ofthousandsofwell-payingjobsintheprocess,” said Prabmeet Sarkaria, Minister of Transportation. “We're increasing access to electricvehiclechargingstations–particularlyin ruralandnortherncommunities–sowecanhelp moredriversgoelectricwithconfidence.”
Theprovinceisacceptingapplicationsto build and operate publicly accessible charging stations on government-owned property, includinghighwayrestareas,carpoolparkinglots and tourist destinations such as Ontario Parks. Morethanadozensitesacrosstheprovince–the majority being in northern Ontario – have been identified for the initial procurement, with the first EVchargersexpectedtobereadyforusein 2025.
ThroughtheEVChargeONprogram,the Ontario government is investing $91 million to make it easier to access EV chargers across the provinceandprovidesmall,ruralandIndigenous communities with the opportunity to switch to

The following carpool lots have been identified for charging stations: Dwyer Hill Carpool Lot (East), Orangeville Carpool Lot (West)andPortUnionCarpoolLot(Central).
Thefollowingprovincialparkshavebeen identified for charging stations: Algonquin ProvincialPark(North)–includingEVchargers at both the Visitors' Centre and Portage Store,
Pinery Provincial Park (West) and Sibbald Point ProvincialPark(Central).
The successful bidder will design and install the charging infrastructure and be responsibleforitsoperationandmaintenancefor five years, with the possibility of two additional one-yearextensions.

The EV ChargeON program consists of twostreams:theCommunitySitesStreamandthe Government Sites Stream. Applications for the EV ChargeON Community Sites Stream closed inJanuary2024andarecurrentlyunderreview.
The Ontario government is making life easier and more convenient for more than eight milliondriversbybecomingthefirstjurisdiction inNorthAmericatointroduceautomaticlicence platerenewals.ThechangetakeseffectonJuly1, 2024 and will save vehicle owners time, amounting to more than 900,000 hours every year.
“Under the leadership of Premier Ford, our government is making life more affordable and convenient for drivers,” said Prabmeet Sarkaria, Minister of Transportation. “First, we eliminatedlicenceplatestickerfeesforpassenger vehicles,savingdrivers$120ayearforeverycar
they own. Now, we're saving drivers valuable time and making their lives easier by automaticallyrenewinglicenceplates.”
Licence plates for passenger vehicles, light-duty trucks, motorcycles and mopeds will renewautomatically90daysbeforeexpiryifthe vehicle owner has valid insurance and no outstandingfinesortolls.Ifalicenceplatecannot berenewedautomatically,thevehicleownerwill be notified and required to manually renew onlineorinpersonatServiceOntario.
"The automatic licence plate renewal program stems from our government's unwavering commitment to deliver modern, seamless and time-saving services," said Todd McCarthy, Minister of Public and Business Service Delivery and Procurement. "By utilizing innovativetechnologicalsolutionstostreamline and improve government services, we are savingOntariansprecioustimeandmoney."
Until automatic licence plate renewals take effect, vehicle owners are required to manuallyrenewtheirplatesatnocost.Ontarians can check their licence plate status at ontario.ca/platerenewal.
