Spirit of Innovation Highlights Chandler’s Achievements By: Mayor Kevin Hartke

As we approach the end of 2023, it is with gratitude that I reflect on the remarkable accomplishments that have shaped our community. Chandler was named the best city for business in Arizona and is among the safest cities in the nation, with serious crime rates the lowest in city history. We’re recognized among the best cities to live or rent in America, a place where our lifestyle and jobs empower individuals and families to flourish. Innovation has been a driving force behind our collective business success. Intel continued to make progress on its massive projects for new fabrication capabilities. Several semiconductor equipment manufacturers, services and technology solution providers opened new or expanded facilities, including Edwards, Bechtel, Yield Engineering Systems and EMD Electronics. Vensure Employer Solutions also established a new global headquarters on the Price Corridor. In partnership with the Chandler Chamber, community colleges and universities, education and workforce development programs expanded in Chandler. Grand Canyon University opened a new nursing campus and ASU’s Chandler Endeavor Venture Innovation Incubator launched its new coworking space, leveraging expert advice and funding for entrepreneurs. This spirit of innovation has propelled us forward through a commitment to collaboration that has been unwavering. We look forward to deepening this engagement in the coming year through shared initiatives and networking events with the Chandler Chamber that forge connections beyond business

Workforce Development

The Power of Emotional Intelligence in the Workplace Emotional Intelligence (EQ) is an important topic that can transform the dynamics of any work environment. In today’s fast-paced and interconnected world, cultivating EQ has become more crucial than ever. Let’s explore what EQ is, and discuss its overall impact.

What is Emotional Intelligence? Emotional Intelligence refers to our ability to recognize, understand, and manage our own emotions, as well as empathize with the emotions of others. It encompasses self-awareness, self-regulation, motivation, empathy, and social skills. While technical skills are important, EQ plays a fundamental role in fostering overall well-being and profitability enhancement.

The Impact of Emotional Intelligence 1. EQ helps us communicate more effectively by understanding and expressing our emotions clearly. It enables us to listen actively, empathize with colleagues, and resolve conflicts constructively. That in turn enhances collaboration and teamwork. 2. Leaders with high EQ are adept at inspiring and motivating their teams. Such leaders create a positive work culture, resulting in increased productivity and employee satisfaction. 3. Conflicts are inevitable in any workplace. However, individuals with high EQ can navigate conflicts with empathy, grace and diplomacy which promotes a harmonious work environment. 4. Work-related stress is a common issue that affects productivity and well-being. EQ allows individuals to recognize and manage their own stress levels effectively which promotes a healthy employee work-life balance and greater overall performance. 5. EQ plays a vital role in customer relations. Employees with high EQ can understand and respond to customer needs, handle complaints, and build strong client relationships which enhance customer satisfaction and loyalty. Emotional Intelligence is not just a “soft skill” but a critical component of a successful work environment. By nurturing EQ, organizations can foster stronger relationships, effective communication, and overall wellbeing among employees, leading to increased productivity and success.

TutorDoctor Customer Service Award Tutor Doctor Chandler-Gilbert has been serving the East Valley for over four years, and was recognized this year by the international franchise in 3 categories. The Award they are most proud of is Customer Service. Tutor Doctor Chandler-Gilbert has earned over 100 5-star reviews on Google from their clients and team for their one-toone test preparation and tutoring. Owner, Kimberly Selchan, notes that “this is a testament to our staff in selecting and directing our diverse team of over 80 local tutors, and to our tutors and academic mentors who create relationships and deliver results with their students!”

Roosters Men’s Grooming Center 2023 Best New Business

I believe that being voted Chandler’s Best New Business 2023 within the first 6 or 7 months of opening was a result of simply keeping a high standard of service. When we first opened, I asked the staff to think about the three friendliest places you visit. What made it such a great place and why was the experience memorable? Then I said we will rip pages out of their playbook and model those behaviors. I knew we were able to deliver a quality product. But these days that is not enough. Customers spend good money and expect results worthy of that hard earned money. But the thing that makes a memorable business is the experience!

Guild Mortgage Aquiring Cherry Creek Mortgage Founded in 1960, Guild Mortgage Company is a nationally recognized independent mortgage lender providing residential mortgage products and local inhouse origination and servicing. Guild’s collaborative culture and commitment to diversity and inclusion enable it to deliver a personalized experience for each customer and services loans in 48 states and the District of Columbia. Guild recently acquired one of the largest reverse mortgage lenders, Cherry Creek Mortgage. This is an opportunity to expand Guild’s range of services with new expertise for this important group of customers. More than half of Americans don’t know how much they’ll need to retire comfortably. A reverse mortgage could help. According to the Urban Institute, the number of Americans ages 65 and older will more than double over the next 40 years, reaching 80 million in 2040. The number of adults ages 85 and older will nearly quadruple between 2000 and 2040. A reverse mortgage loan, commonly known as a home equity conversion mortgage (HECM), enables the borrower to access equity in their property and use it to supplement retirement income. HECMs are federally insured by the Federal Housing Administration (FHA), a branch of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). A Home Equity Conversion Mortgage (HECM) for purchase – a type of reverse mortgage – allows retirees or those approaching retirement to convert the equity in their home into cash, which they can then use to buy a new principal residence. These loans allow borrowers to take out a reverse mortgage and purchase a new home within the same transaction, potentially saving time and money. HECMs account for nearly all reverse mortgages made today in the U.S., with an average of 50,000 loans issued annually. Prospective borrowers who are interested in a reverse mortgage loan must be 62 years of age or older, own their own home and use it as their primary residence, own their home free and clear or have a small amount left to pay on their existing mortgage, own a single family, up to four-unit multi-family home or approved condominium or manufactured home in good condition. Headquartered in San Diego, Guild Mortgage is a leading national lender with an established history of

offering a comprehensive array of loan products and partnering with government organizations to help deliver the promise of home in every neighborhood and community. Its loan professionals can serve the needs of any homebuyer, from helping firsttime buyers achieve homeownership, often through government loan programs, to homebuyers looking for a jumbo loan. Guild also helps active duty and retired military personnel who qualify for VA loans with 100% financing and flexible qualifying standards. The company is consistently recognized for its impact in the communities it serves, commitment to customer service, strength in regulatory compliance, and workplace culture. Elena De Luz, Senior Loan Officer has been with Guild for 6 years and is an active Chandler Chamber Ambassador. Elena can help with a retirement mortgage as well as many other products when purchasing a home or utilizing equity in a home. As an immigrant, Elena associates the American Dream with homeownership and helping others make that come to fruition is one of her passions. She can be reached directly at 602.410.3348 or edeluz@guildmortgage.net.

Arizona Utilities Encourage Customers To Avoid Scams

Many electric, water, and natural gas customers throughout the country are being targeted by impostor utility scams each day. Scammers typically use phone, in-person, and online tactics to target customers. Nationwide, utilities have received increased reports of scammers contacting customers digitally while posing as utility workers to access financial information or obtain immediate payment by threatening service shutoffs. It is more important than ever for customers to learn about scams and how to avoid them. That’s why Arizona Public Service (APS), Salt River Project (SRP), Southwest Gas, Tucson Electric Power (TEP) and UniSource Energy Services have united to support International Fraud Awareness Week (Nov. 12-18) and recognize the eighth annual Utility Scam Awareness Day.

The Royal Chef Brought Traditional English Tea To The Park at Copper Creek in Chandler Koelsch Communities, a Third-generation, family-owned and operated senior living provider, recently welcomed The Royal Chef Darren McGardy to The Park at Copper Creek Independent Living Community. While in Chandler, Chef McGrady prepared a traditional English tea similar to those he served at Buckingham Palace and Kensington Palace during his 15 years as a personal chef for Queen Elizabeth II and Princess Diana. The Park at Copper Creek’s residents and guests enjoyed authentically-prepared scones and English tea while being treated to chef McGrady’s anecdotes and stories. For example, he revealed that the Queen ordered scones with her tea every day, alternating between fruit and plain scones, and while the Queen insisted on them as part of her tea service, she actually fed them to her corgis. He also shared that chefs were required to trim the corners off of tea sandwiches for Queen Elizabeth because she felt rectangular food looked to much like a coffin! Koelsch works closely with Chef McGrady to curate menus for its independent living and assisted living communities across the United States. Koelsch is committed to creating elevated living experiences for residents, including providing a small taste of what life is like as a royal.

Government Shutdown Statement

The Chandler Chamber of Commerce, alongside the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, applauds the bipartisan effort to approve H.R. 6363 to stave off a government shutdown, at least until January 19. A government shutdown occurs when Congress fails to pass a spending bill to fund the federal government, which impose a catastrophic threat to our economic stability and the vitality of business and industry. This comes after the Chandler Chamber sent a policy letter to our Congressional Delegation in Washington, D.C. to urge the passage of a fiscally-responsible budget. The Chandler Chamber praises the recent action to prevent a government shutdown, but will continue to advocate on behalf of the business community to preserve the federal government’s steady operation through January 19. While the impacts may vary by industry, the shock will reach far-beyond our nation’s capital. To find out the potential affects of a government shutdown in Arizona, visit the interactive map below: Click for more information
