Woman, 93, in critical condition after three-car smash at junction A 93-year-old woman is in a critical condition after three cars were involved in a collision on Dunningsbridge Road in Netherton. The female passenger was one of four people who were injured in the incident which happened at the junction with Park Lane West, in Netherton, at around 12.30pm on Saturday, December 4. It was reported three cars – a black Audi Q3, a blue Audi A4 and a black Ford Galaxy - had been in a collision. Emergency services attended and four people were treated at the scene for injuries. Two were taken for further treatment at hospital and one of them, a 93-year-old female who was a passenger in the Audi Q3, remains in hospital in a critical condition. Roads Policing Inspector Mark Worrall said: “An investigation is ongoing into this incident, and we have spoken to some witnesses and retrieved dashcam footage. “We are keen to speak to anyone who has not yet come forward with information, and ask that anyone who witnessed the collision or captured anything on dashcam or other devices does so as soon as possible. “Your information could be vital to our investigation.” Anyone who witnessed the incident or has any information is asked to call the Matrix Roads Policing Unit on 0151 777 5747, email sciu@merseyside.police.uk or contact @MerPolCC on Twitter quoting reference 21000840634. VILLAGERS’ FEARS OVER HOUSING DEVELOPMENT Residents meet MP about concerns over impact of building 323 homes on traffic and drainage Report by Henry James RESIDENTS in Lydiate fear the huge 323-home development proposed for the Morton’s Dairy site on the outskirts of the village will have a big impact on traffic in the area and could lead to flood risks. Residents also say they object to the plans by developer Bellway being described as on ‘brownfield’ when most of the homes would be built on previously undeveloped green fields bordered by Kenyons Lane, Liverpool Road and the A59. They met with Sefton Central MP Bill Esterson to discuss their concerns particularly about the impact on traffic including onto the A59 Northway. Mr Esterson said: “Traffic along Kenyons Lane already backs up onto the A59 and residents fear being unable to get on and off their driveways once a new junction is put in. “The lane is a residential road with a school on it and residents want to know why a new junction can’t allow traffic from the new housing development to go straight onto the A59 to the north rather than via an already congested residential road. “The developers’ plans to widen Kenyons Lane will still leave the existing challenges of queuing traffic and there will be more vehicles especially at peak times. “The work will see the removal of trees and

hedgerows and the residents also want to make sure that these are replaced. “The residents feel the developer’s reports on how they will deal with traffic and surface water run-off are not adequate and they have commissioned their own surveys. “There are 30 properties that don’t have mains sewage so access to septic tanks must be maintained. Access to GPs and other health services is a concern too. “I shall do what I can to make sure that the con-
cerns raised are addressed before any permission is given for development of this important site.” A spokesman for Bellway’s said: “The development will provide 323 new homes to the area, which will bring benefit to the local economy. “The site is an allocated housing site in the Local Authority Development Plan. The access proposals are as set out in the Development Plan allocation and a Transport Assessment has been submitted with the application which outlines that the access is considered to be acceptable.”
