PRINCE’S PRAISE FOR YOUNG CARER Harry in surprise visit to see Crosby boy,10 Report by Tom Martin A REMARKABLE ten-year-old from Crosby who helps look after his younger sister has been recognised for his efforts by the Duke of Sussex at a private garden party in London. Isaac Vials Moore was named the winner in the Young Carer category at the prestigious national 2021 WellChild Awards, having been nominated by his mother, Cora. He received his award on Wednesday, June 30 when there was a surprise visit from WellChild Patron, Prince Harry. N ot only was Prince Harry in attendance, he also stopped to have a chat with Isaac to find out how he has been helping his family at home. Isaac cares for his younger sister and supports his mum as both have complex health problems. He has helped care for his six-year-old sister Gwen since she was born with complex medical needs when he was just three years old. Despite coping with his own diagnosis of ADHD and autism spectrum disorder, Isaac is unfailingly kind and proactive in supporting both Gwen and his mum Cora. Not only does he help with so many daily activities, but he also fundraises for charities and organisations which help his sister and set up signing classes with Gwen’s teacher at school so that other children can communicate with her. Funding boost for Seaforth Nature Reserve SEAFORTH Nature Reserve has been given a £3,000 boost towards its ongoing improvement works. The site, which is located within the grounds of the Port of Liverpool and managed by Lancashire Wildlife Trust, is going through a wide-scale revamp. Due for completion later this year, the programme of works totalling £34,000 will be designed and contracted by the Wildlife Trust, RSPB and N atural England. It will include bird hide improvements and the installation of a low gradient ramped path and steps with a handrail to make it more accessible for wheelchair users, those with mobility issues, and families with prams. It will also include ‘interpretation’ displays to ensure greater inclusivity and enable visitors to get close to and learn about threatened bird species, without causing an adverse disturbance. The funding will also help to create new areas of breeding habitat for several breeding species that Seaforth supports two of which are considered of regional importance and includes the Common Tern and Ringed Plover.
