Man dies after fall while working on house AN investigation is being held by the police and the Health and Safety Executive after a man died after a fall while working on a house in Aintree. The man suffered a serious head injury in the incident which took place at a house on School Lane on the morning of Thursday, December 12. Emergency services, including an air ambulance, were called to the house but the man was sadly pronounced dead at the scene. A spokesperson for Merseyside Police said: “We were called to an incident in Aintree on Thursday, December 12. “Emergency services were called to a residential premises on School Lane at around 9.10am, to reports a man who had been working at the house had sustained a serious head injury following a fall. “He was later pronounced dead by paramedics at the scene. “An investigation is being carried out by detectives and the Health and Safety Executive. “The man’s next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specially trained officers at this time.”

DRINK DRIVER JAILED FOR CRASH WHICH LEFT TEEN FIGHTING FOR LIFE Midwife careered off road and ploughed into young footballer leaving him with fractured skull Report by Lynda Roughley A WOMAN drunk driver who left talented young Maghull footballer Alex Moffit with potentially life threatening injuries after her car ploughed into him on a pavement has been jailed. Sarah Hogg, a 50-year-old midwife, from Meadow Lane, Maghull, admitted causing serious injury by dangerous driving and driving with excess alcohol. She had gone for a drive in the early hours of Saturday, March 23 after falling out with her husband. Her car mounted the pavement on Kenyons Lane, Lydiate, and hit the 17-year-victim who suffered a fractured skull and bleeding on the brain. He was in an induced coma for two weeks while his life hung in the balance. Liverpool Crown Court heard on Monday, December 16 that “miraculously ” he has made a good recovery after surgery for a serious knee injury but he may lose his job as an apprentice electrician and may be unable to return to his beloved sporting activities. The court heard that Hogg, a mum-of-four was of “impeccable character” and her own successful career as a senior midwife is now in jeopardy, but Judge

Andrew Menary, QC, the Recorder of Liverpool, told her that only an immediate custodial sentence was warranted. He jailed Hogg for 12 months and banned her from driving for two and a half years. Judge Menary said that she and her husband had attended a friend’s surprise birthday party that night but something happened and he went home leaving her to get a taxi back.

Despite the amount she had drunk she chose to take the family car out on the road and as she drove along Kenyons Lane, near her home, she failed to negotiate a bend and struck Alex, a keen Everton fan, as he and a friend were walking along the pavement on their way home.
