INSIDE THIS WEEK:
FAKE Ugg gloves and Mac make up sets with a potential retail value of a third of a million pounds were found in a container rented by a Formby man. Wayne Rossiter, who has a previous conviction for selling counterfeit goods, admitted storing the items in return for £8,000 because he was ‘hard up’. His barrister Nicola Daley said the dadof-three described himself as a ‘divvy ’ “for giving in at that time in his life and allowing them to be stored in his container. He knows what he has done has put his liberty at risk.” Judge Gary Woodhall told him that such offences warranted an immediate jail sentence but, after hearing that the offence took place almost six years ago and court proceedings were only brought earlier this year, he suspended a nine month jail term for 15 months.

inferior goods which customers may be fooled into believing are genuine items. ’A degree of professionalism had gone into making these counterfeit goods... although your role was limited to £8,000 it is clear that the enterprise to which you lent your service was capable of making substantial profits.” He ordered businessman Rossiter, of Cross Green, Formby, to carry out 180 hours unpaid work and 20 days rehabilitation activities and to pay £8,000 within 56 days or face four months imprisonment. He had pleaded guilty to possessing counterfeit goods. Kevin Slack, prosecuting, told Liverpool Crown Court in an operation by the City of London Police’s Economic Crime Directorate, officers raided Rossiter’s home on March 25, 2014. Continued inside
Andy Laverick with his award
A CONSERVATION volunteer from Formby was ‘thrilled and humbled’ to collect a national marine charity’s Outstanding Achievement Award. Andy Laverick, 34, works at the town’s Marks and Spencer store on Halsall Lane. He offered to take part in the retail company’s volunteering initiative in 2007 when staff from across the country completed 100 beach and 90 waterway cleans in a week! The project ignited a lifetime passion for Andy, who has
taken part in regular cleans on the Sefton coastline for the last 12 years – and since 2013, he has been a volunteer Sea Champion for the Marine Conservation Society. In this role, he organises and hosts beach cleans on the Sefton coastline as well as helping with the charity’s schools project. The MCS is the UK’s leading marine charity and works to ensure that the seas are healthy, pollution-free and protected. Continued inside
