she retired, have spent many years on charity initiatives around the North West. They set up a house for homeless people with drug rehabilitation issues in 1995 and now have a chain of houses across the city providing accommodation for people who are coming out of a 12-step rehabilitation programme. They also help run rough sleepers initiative, Severe Wealth Element Protocol (SWEP) which aims to help people in Southport off the street and into accommodation – and in Liverpool, called the Rough Sleepers Initiative, RSI, which is run by their sons, Neil and Steven, as well as four of their nine grandchildren. They couple, who have three children, also run a non-profit organisation called Roots which aims to help house immigrants from war-torn countries in Liverpool as part of the New Start initiative.
A FORMBY couple who have dedicated their lives to charity work at home and abroad, have been given ‘Special Recognition Awards’ for their efforts in helping Commonwealth organisations. Robin and Brenda Baynes, both 74, were jointly given the honour at the recently held first City of Liverpool Commonwealth Winter Ball held at the Crowne Plaza in Liverpool. The accolade - given by the Liverpool Commonwealth Association - is in recognition of Robin and Brenda’s work over the years helping villages and schools in Fiji; funding an orphan every month since 2009 at Issac’s House Orphanage in Uganda; sending 200 bikes to Lesoto, and sending Continued inside Sight Boxes to the British Virgin Islands and Barbados. But the couple’s charity work begins at home and seemingly knows no bounds. Robin and his wife founded and chair the charity Liverpool Heartbeat, which supports young people aged between four and 18 years old with educational and fun activities. Robin is also the chair and founder of family-run social housing group, New Start, while both he and Brenda, who worked in organising housing Robin Baines receiving his MBE from the Queen for mental health patients before at Buckingham Palace
