The church on Warren Road
Church to close after 122 years - but future use of the building has been thrown into doubt AN historic church in Blundellsands is to close after 122 years with the building’s future use now in doubt. Blundellsands United Reformed Church which was first formed in 1897, will close its doors for a final service next month. The majority of its 17 members will switch to Crosby United Reformed Church, in Eshe Road. The regular congregation will meet in prayer for the last time on Sunday, October 13 and members of the public are welcome to attend. The future use of the building in Warren Road is unknown, and although there are discussions to keep it open for the use of the community, a full closure of the site has not been ruled out. A CHARITY outlet in Waterloo which has over the years raised more than £750,000 to keep the town’s Plaza cinema running, has reopened following a much-needed revamp - thanks to the hard-work of volunteers. The Plaza Community Cinema Shop, on St John’s Road, received the Mayor of Sefton’s approval when Cllr June Burns performed a special ceremony on Monday to signal a new fundraising era for the organisation. The shop is described as a ‘vital source of funds’ for the Plaza Cinema and over the last 20 years it has raised an amazing three-quarters-of-a-million pounds. It had to close down recently to allow volunteers from local charity ‘Together Everyone Achieves More’ (TEAM) to carry out the vital work so it can continue to support the Waterloo cinema. Kieran Owens, who not only created TEAM but is also a Plaza Cinema trustee, told the Champion: “The shop has raised in excess of £750,000 and is the main source of funding for the cinema. Without the shop and the amazing support from the donations received by local people, the Plaza would not be here today. Continued inside
