Strand campaign to help foodbank THE Strand has launched a campaign to help a local foodbank – and both shoppers and staff are being encouraged to play their part. The Bootle shopping centre has started its Helping Hand project which will focus on helping South Sefton Foodbank get as much food as possible through donations. A spokesperson for the Strand said: “We will be encouraging our shoppers, retailers and staff to help us support South Sefton Foodbank by donating a range of food goods or anything they can spare which will be donated to Sefton Foodbank by the team at the Strand. “If you have a spare can or box of food, you can donate to our appeal -
families in the Bootle area will be very grateful. “South Sefton Foodbank is part of The Trussell Trust which is a network of foodbanks which provide emergency food to local people in times of need. “The Strand Shopping Centre management team are proud to be teaming up with South Sefton Foodbank to help in any way they can.” Rowland Parry, centre manager, unveiled the Strand’s first food collection point on Mons Square last week. The idea to set up a collection point in the centre is one of several projects to come from the Strand’s management team this year.

Bootle barber’s message to fly-tippers who are wrecking his business...
‘JUST CUT IT OUT!’ Sean says problem is now so bad he might quit town and relocate Report by Tom Martin
Sean Burns with his son, also called Sean Burns, at The Barber Club
NOW AVAILABLE
A BARBER is so hacked off with fly-tippers who discard their rubbish next to his shop, that he is considering cutting his ties with the town and moving his business out of the area! Sean Burns, who opened The Barber Club four years ago, is fed-up with the relentless flytipping on the corner of Bedford Road and Stanley Road and is
thinking of taking the drastic step of closing the shop and relocating away from Bootle. Just last week, another huge pile of waste appeared overnight which included bin bags and mattresses. The incident forced some angry residents to take to social media claiming “it looks like someone has emptied their entire house onto the pavement!” But this is only the latest in a long line of flytipping incidents according to Sean, who has lived in Bootle for 30 years, and he’s become so angry he doesn’t want to renew the lease on the building where The Barber Club stands when it runs out in October, and is instead planning to open a shop in Wirral. He said: “I'm onto the council all the time about this and if nothing happens we are gone. We are even thinking of selling our home and moving on. Who wants to be working and looking out at that every day?”
