• Twin HSS blade adjusts automatically to thread diameter and pitch.
• M4-M45 (4-45mm) / 5/32” to 1-3/4”
• Knurled Grip Adjustment
• Zinc body, CR-plated Part No. CTRT-1
• To start the process, choose the length of thread coil required for the job, use the HSS drill bit from the kit (Fig. 1 and 2).
• Drill out the damaged thread deeper than the coil being used to allow for the tap to cut a good thread for the entire length of the coil (Fig. 3).
• With the tap supplied from the kit tap out the hole to the required length for the coil, use a good lubricant to help this part of the process to go smoothly (Fig. 4).
• Place the coil to be used on the insert tool with the cross pin at the end to be inserted into the hole first, or it will not work (Fig. 5 and 6).
Fig. 1 We have a stripped thread as shown.
Fig. 5 Get rid of the shavings with compressed air before and after drilling and tapping.
Fig. 2 Choose a coil insert slightly bigger than the thread to repair – with the same internal size as the original hole is recommended.
Fig. 6 Slide the installation tool into the insert, lodge the pin of the coil into the notch of the tool.
• With some downward pressure start screwing the insert into the tapped hole. This process does take some effort to start but keep screwing in the insert until it is just under the edge of the surface (Fig. 7).
• Now insert the break-off tool into the inserted coil, it will stop at the cross pin. With a hammer give the break-off tool a tap and the pin will break off. Now your job is complete, just clean up and can get back to reassembling your job using the original fastener size (Fig. 8).
Fig. 3 Use the coupled drill bit to drill a hole deep enough to fully seat the thread insert.
Fig. 7 Wind the insert down until it is below with the hole. Use the break-off tool and place it through the insert. Give it a few taps with hammer to break the pin.
Fig. 4 Tap a thread into the hole. Make sure that it is perpendicular to the surface when tapping.
Fig. 8 You can use a fastener of the original size again.
