Asbestos ‘ALERT Portable’ launching at Contamination Expo Alert Technology Ltd, aims to relegate exposure to airborne asbestos as a danger to the past, with the long-awaited launch of ALERT – the world’s first real-time monitoring device for airborne asbestos. Until now, no real-time method has existed to warn people if asbestos containing materials has inadvertently been disturbed and fibres released into the air. Current testing relies on postevent analysis providing results at best, in hours and worst, in days. Designed and intended to provide a vital early warning, it will prevent prolonged

exposure. Intended for use by knowledgeable professionals as a complementary technology in conjunction with existing asbestos regulations, it is most effective when used indoors. ALERT does not negate the need for traditional asbestos clearance testing. Years in development, ALERT’s patented design uses light scattering technology, the unique paramagnetic properties of asbestos fibres and a complex algorithm. It can warn the user in a matter of minutes if asbestos is airborne by analysing up to 600 particles a second, with a visual and audible alarm and post event downloadable report.

ALERT’s continual and immediate analysis of the air will only enhance safe asbestos working practices and introduces a whole new level of best practice and risk reduction for forward-thinking businesses in many sectors. 2020 and 2021 have seen considerable refactoring and improvement of ALERT’s firmware and software plus enhancements to the mechanical design to boost robustness. To learn more visit Alert at stand 4-H20 at the Contamination Expo, Birmingham NEC, 22 to 23 September 2021 for demos and to discuss commercial opportunities.
