ChamberLink

It is a privilege to welcome you to the third edition of ChamberLink in 2025, a year defined by action, collaboration and the shared ambition of Cork’s business community to lead with purpose.

This issue is anchored by the theme ‘collaboration in action’, and there is no better moment to reflect on the power of partnership. Earlier this month, Cork Chamber proudly became the first Irish and only European chamber to win a World Chambers Competition award this year, taking home the top prize for Best Collaboration of Chambers, Business and Government. This global recognition celebrates the Local Green Deal initiative, which has seen Cork’s business community, city leadership and stakeholders work together to deliver tangible climate action.

That same spirit was evident as Cork hosted the Tri-Region Partnership with Dublin and Northern Ireland Chambers. Over two days, business leaders, policymakers and innovators aligned on a shared vision for an island that is more connected, competitive and resilient. From higher-speed rail and port investment to innovation clusters and tourism links, these conversations were practical steps toward unlocking our collective potential.

National policy decisions will continue to play a critical role in shaping Cork’s future. In recent months we have actively engaged with Ireland’s senior ministers to advocate for urgent progress on housing delivery, infrastructure investment, skills development and SME supports – the foundations of competitiveness. Post Budget 2026, our focus is on ensuring that government action meets the scale of Cork’s ambition and the needs of our business community.

Our international agenda has also been busy. From hosting inbound

delegations and engaging with global partners, to preparing for trade missions, we are strengthening Cork’s international profile and opening new doors for collaboration, investment and innovation.

Sustainability and innovation run through this edition, from the REEValue International Conference on decarbonising European value chains, to the launch of our Volunteering Opportunities Brochure, to the opening of submissions for the Cork Company of the Year Awards 2026.

You will also find updates on recent events, new members joining our community, and insights from across sectors that demonstrate the strength and diversity of Cork enterprise.

At Cork Chamber, our mission remains clear: to represent your interests with impact, connect you with opportunity, and champion Cork as a region of innovation, inclusion and intent. The months ahead will challenge us to continue thinking big, collaborating widely, and delivering tangible results, and I look forward to working with you to make that happen.

Three Regions, One Vision: Cork Hosts the Tri-Region Partnership

Cork took centre stage in September as business leaders, policymakers, and innovators from across the island gathered for the latest chapter of the Tri-Region Partnership. The initiative is a unique collaboration between Cork Chamber, Dublin Chamber, and Northern Ireland Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Established to strengthen all-island economic connectivity, the partnership seeks to unlock new opportunities through joint advocacy, coordinated investment, and shared ambition across Ireland’s three largest economic regions.

More than a forum for discussion, the Tri-Region has from the outset been a catalyst for action. Together, the Chambers have been championing transformative projects such as a higher-speed rail link between Cork, Dublin, and Belfast, restoring domestic flights between Belfast and Cork, funding allocations for our ports, the development of all-island innovation clusters, and enhancing tourism links. These goals reflect a clear vision; an integrated, competitive, and resilient island economy that can thrive in an era of global uncertainty

Cork Chamber’s two-day programme offered a mix of perspectives and settings, highlighting the region’s strengths while deepening collaboration with Dublin and Northern Ireland peers.

Day one: connecting people and places

Day One opened at Penrose Dock with a focus on Connecting People and Places, where leaders from Irish Rail, Cork Airport, and Belfast City Council outlined how transport and urban regeneration can knit the island’s regions closer together. Delegates also heard about the ambitious plans for Cork Docklands, the State’s largest regeneration project. This was followed by a powerful discussion on Enterprise, Innovation and Industry, featuring insights from Enterprise Ireland, Invest Northern Ireland, IDA Ireland, and InterTradeIreland.

Maritime strengths on show

The conversation then moved to Ringaskiddy and the National Maritime College of Ireland (NMCI), where maritime experts showcased Cork’s pivotal role in offshore renewables, ocean research, and port development. A guided tour of the NMCI’s worldclass simulators gave delegates a unique insight into maritime education and training.

The evening’s programme blended networking with culture, as delegates enjoyed a dinner celebrating Cork’s history and tourism, where Minister of State Jerry Buttimer TD officially launched the TriRegion policy position paper.

“The launch of the tri-region policy position paper shows the ambition for growth across our regions. We face similar challenges and with joined up thinking and planning, our governments can unlock a more connected and prosperous island for all.”

Day two: innovation, skills and education

Day Two brought the delegation to University College Cork (UCC), focusing on Innovation Clusters, Skills and Education. With keynote contributions from Dr. Caoimhe Archibald MLA, Minister for the Economy in Northern Ireland, and presentations from UCC, Queen’s University Belfast, and the Shared Island Unit, the focus turned to harnessing education, research, and life sciences to build sustainable growth. The event concluded with a collective brainstorming session, setting out concrete next steps for collaboration across the Tri-Region.

Partnership is power

What was clear across both days is that partnership multiplies impact. Whether in infrastructure, innovation, or tourism, the message was the same: working together across regions is the key to success.

By aligning priorities across Cork, Dublin, and Northern Ireland, the Tri-Region Partnership is carving a practical path toward balanced regional growth. It is a vision of an island economy that is more connected, resilient, and ambitious, where communities, businesses, and individuals all stand to benefit.

Conor Healy, CEO of Cork Chamber, said: “Cork is playing a central role in shaping Ireland’s economic future. We have many strengths in our region, and partnerships and collaboration enhance all of our opportunities.

“The launch of the tri-region policy position paper shows the ambition for growth across our regions. We face similar challenges and with joined up thinking and planning, our governments can unlock a more connected and prosperous island for all.”

Budget 2026: A Defining Moment for Cork’s Future

As Budget 2026 approaches, Cork stands at a critical crossroads. The region’s potential for sustainable growth, innovation, and inclusive prosperity is immense. For this potential to be realised, however, it must be matched by bold, strategic investment. In Cork Chamber’s Pre-Budget Submission, we set out a clear roadmap for government action, shaped by the evolving priorities, emerging challenges and lived experience of our 1,200 members, spanning sectors and ranging in size from start-ups and SMEs to large domestic and multinational firms.

Competitiveness takes centre stage

At the heart of our submission is a call to strengthen Ireland’s overall competitiveness. This means taking steps to reduce the administrative burden on SMEs, simplify the tax code, and enhance supports for indigenous enterprises and key domestic sectors like tourism. We advocate for the establishment of an Office of Tax Simplification and targeted reforms to personal and corporate taxation, including improvements to share schemes and CGT reliefs. These measures will help unlock domestic entrepreneurship to act as a counterbalance to already strong FDI sectors.

Another key element of Ireland’s competitiveness is our ability to meet the housing demands of a growing population. With the Cork region’s population set to grow significantly in the coming years, we need to deliver between 7,500 and 10,000 units annually. Budget 2026 must support apartment viability, incentivise employerdeveloped accommodation and modernise conveyancing processes. Investment in critical infrastructure such as water services, alongside greater alignment between housing developers, local authorities and utility providers, is essential to accelerate delivery.

Cork’s infrastructure must also evolve to support its economic ambitions and population growth. We call for accelerated delivery of key transport projects including Luas Cork, BusConnects, the Cork Area Commuter Rail Programme, and strategic road upgrades. Investment in Cork Airport and intercity rail links will enhance regional connectivity. A dedicated fund for climate-neutral cities is vital to meet EU targets and support Cork’s sustainability journey.

Supporting sustainable development and vibrancy in our urban centres is essential for economic and social wellbeing. We urge government to reinstate the 9% VAT rate for food-related hospitality, invest in tourism infrastructure and support local sustainability initiatives. Tackling vacancy and dereliction, enhancing Garda resourcing and funding cultural amenities will also help Cork remain a safe, attractive place to live, work and visit.

Setting a course for a sustainable future

To retain and attract talent, we need robust investment in education and skills. Budget 2026 should address the structural funding gap in higher education, expand apprenticeships and unlock the National Training Fund surplus. Supports for childcare, student housing and visa reform are also critical to ensure an inclusive and competitive workforce.

Investment in talent and skills is particularly critical when it comes to emerging sectors like offshore renewable energy. Cork is poised to lead Ireland’s offshore wind ambitions, with significant development already underway off the south coast and in the Port of Cork. Designating Cork as a national renewable energy hub and establishing a Green Energy Park will catalyse innovation and job creation. Alongside developments in offshore wind, national investment in grid upgrades, biomethane infrastructure and hydrogen strategy implementation will be crucial to support Ireland’s green energy future.

Budget 2026 is an opportunity to deliver a responsive and visionary future for Cork and Ireland. Our submission is practical, evidencebased and rooted in the ambitions of our members. We urge government to act decisively in Budget 2026, and invest in the foundations of a resilient, competitive and inclusive economy.

Jack Chambers TD, Minister for Public Expenditure, Infrastructure, Public Service Reform and Digitalisation and Rob Horgan, President Cork Chamber.

Driving Competitiveness

Cork Chamber Meets with An Tánaiste Simon Harris TD

Cork Chamber recently welcomed Tánaiste Simon Harris TD for discussions with business leaders, placing Cork’s growth priorities firmly on the national agenda.

Central to the discussions was the National Development Plan (NDP) and the critical importance of its timely and ambitious delivery. Cork Chamber’s formal submission to the NDP, which sets out a number of strategic priorities, was presented to the Tánaiste. The submission highlights the infrastructure and investment needed to ensure Cork remains competitive, attractive for investment, and well-positioned for sustainable growth.

Cork’s competitiveness hinges on turning strategic priorities into tangible outcomes, particularly in housing, transport, renewable energy, education and digital connectivity. Progress in these areas is key to attracting talent, driving innovation, and supporting

Cork Chamber and U.S. Ambassador Discuss Shared Economic Priorities

Cork Chamber recently met with U.S Ambassador Edward S. Walsh for a roundtable with local business leaders, focusing on the priorities of Cork’s business community amid the evolving international trade landscape.

The meeting marked the first formal engagement between the newly appointed Ambassador and Cork Chamber, with many key sectors of Cork’s economy represented at the meeting, including pharmaceuticals, tech, tourism, agrifood and financial services.

Cork Chamber highlighted the enduring value of the economic partnership between the Cork region and the U.S, emphasising that this trading relationship is long-established and mutually beneficial.

sustainable regional growth, a message that was clearly conveyed to the Tánaiste during the discussion.

The discussion also highlighted the importance of stability and certainty in international trade. With many Cork businesses active across global markets, a reliable and supportive trading environment is vital to protecting competitiveness and enabling long-term growth.

This high-level engagement reflects Cork Chamber’s ongoing commitment to representing the voice of business at the heart of national decision-making. By advocating for both the delivery of the NDP and the safeguarding of Ireland’s international trading position, Cork Chamber continues to champion the conditions needed for Cork, and Ireland, to thrive.

In the context of a dynamic global trading environment, businesses face challenges that can affect competitiveness and growth and Cork Chamber continues to engage with government and EU stakeholders to advocate for a predictable and stable international trading environment.

Meetings such as this with the U.S Ambassador provide an important platform to reinforce these priorities and foster cooperation on trade matters that benefit businesses on both sides of the Atlantic.

Supporting SMEs on the Path to Sustainable Growth

Sustainability has become a critical concern worldwide, shaped by climate change, environmental degradation, and social and economic challenges. Businesses are central to the shift towards more sustainable models.

In Cork, SMEs play a vital role in employment, innovation and community resilience. Their engagement in sustainability is essential, not only to achieve climate goals but also to maintain long-term competitiveness and promote inclusive growth. Yet, SMEs often face unique challenges such as limited resources and expertise.

Research at Cork Chamber

Earlier this year, Cork Chamber facilitated a Public Affairs internship for Adriana Rivera, an MSc student in Sustainable Development, Agri-food and Co-operatives at University College Cork (UCC). As part of her placement, Adriana undertook research into how SMEs are approaching sustainability, the barriers and enablers they encounter, and the role of the new Voluntary Sustainability Reporting Standard for SMEs (VSME).

The research gathered feedback from Chamber Members and stakeholders through surveys, interviews and a focus group. Findings highlight that while awareness of sustainability is growing, progress remains uneven and capacity to act varies widely. Key internal barriers identified include financial constraints, limited knowledge and skill gaps, and lack of time or staff capacity. Externally, low market demand, limited stakeholder engagement and complex regulations often prevent sustainability from being prioritised at a strategic level. At the same time, a number of enablers are driving progress. Internally, organisational culture,

management commitment and team engagement are critical. Externally, stakeholder collaboration and the availability of clear reporting standards are helping SMEs to drive progress.

Turning research into action

The research findings and recommendations incorporate memberled feedback, and as we develop Cork Chamber as a Sustainability Hub and build on existing programmes this research will strengthen our role as a key stakeholder in supporting the sustainability journey of our SME membersAs Cork positions itself as a leader in the green transition, empowering SMEs with the right tools and supports will be essential to achieving climate targets while sustaining economic growth.

Never Waste a Good Opportunity

Tesco Ireland finds cool way to cut emissions and energy bills

Tesco Ireland is taking a surprisingly hot approach to cutting both emissions and energy costs — and it all starts at the back of the fridge.

In retail, refrigeration typically ranks as one of the largest single contributors to electricity use. At Tesco, it accounts for up to 50% of a store’s total electricity load. But with chilled food a nonnegotiable part of the shopping experience, simply switching it off was never going to be an option. So instead of cutting back, Tesco leaned into innovation to tackle these emissions head-on.

From high impact to high efficiency

Historically, many refrigeration systems in retail operated using refrigerants such as R448A — an effective but environmentally damaging gas. The Global Warming Potential (GWP) measures how much heat a greenhouse gas traps in the atmosphere over a specific time period. The refrigerant R448A scores at 1,387 meaning that the gas has 1,387 times the warming effect of CO2.

Tesco have moved to a refrigeration system known as R744 bringing the GWP down to just 1. This also reduces refrigeration energy consumption by around 10%. When refrigeration makes up half of the energy load in every store, this equates to a major reduction in overall consumption and cost.

From

waste to heat

Fridges work by taking heat out of the fridge, not putting cold into the fridge. It’s what you feel when you put your hand behind your fridge at home. Therefore, there is heat waste, often never to be seen again, but not in Tesco.

Tesco’s Maintenance and Energy Management teams now use heat plate exchangers to capture the heat instead. The captured heat is transferred into water, which is stored in thermal buffer vessels onsite and redistributed. This hot water is then reused to heat stores, pumped through low-temperature coils in fan units that disperse warmth where it’s needed most.

In trials, this new process has covered up to 44% of the heating demand in some stores reducing reliance on gas and lowering emissions in real terms. This shift has led to a drop in the use of natural gas, with corresponding reduction in emissions. While it is not quite enough to heat an entire store, it is certainly making a positive impact.

From a consumer perspective, this is not the kind of innovation you’ll notice, like our new focaccia pizza or the new additions to our marinated meat selections just in time for BBQ season. But it’s quietly reshaping how we at Tesco do business throughout Ireland and an important step in Tesco achieving their commitments to becoming carbon neutral across our operations by 2035.

As businesses across Ireland face increasing pressure to hit net zero targets, Tesco’s approach could provide a useful, and unusually warm model for the future.

Cork’s green energy future isn’t a goal. It’s already happening. Ørsted’s Onshore Europe is headquartered in One Albert Quay. We’ve one operational windfarm close to Millstreet, and in 2025 we’re progressing five new onshore renewable developments across the county:

Ballinrea Solar Farm & Battery Storage | 55 MW

Our first construction project in Cork city, located between Donnybrook and Carrigaline, this solar development is expected to be operational in 2026.

Greenhills Solar Farm & Battery Storage | 250 MW

Entering planning, this solar development is located between Killeagh and Youghal with capacity to power up to 52,000 homes.

Rathcoursey Solar Farm | 82 MW

Between Midleton and Aghada, this early-stage development was granted planning in September 2024.

Ballinagree Wind Farm | 106 MW

A joint venture with FuturEnergy Ireland and located between Millstreet and Macroom, this project includes a public recreational area and walkway with a grid offer expected shortly.

Coom Green Energy Park | 121 MW

Displacing up to 150,000 tonnes of CO2 per annum, this joint venture with FuturEnergy Ireland includes both onshore wind and battery storage. Once complete it will be our highest output onshore wind farm in Ireland.

Combined, these projects will add over 600 MW of additional indigenous, cost competitive and stable energy generation. That’s more than what’s needed to power every house in Cork. Beyond energy, each project also gives back to the local community through community benefit funds once operational and these continue throughout their lifetime.

Home to an experienced team of over 100 people, our Cork office develops, constructs and operates renewable energy projects in Ireland, Spain, the UK and Germany. To date we have invested over €800m in Irish energy infrastructure and operate a portfolio of 20 windfarms across the island of Ireland, with one new wind farm and two new solar farms currently under construction.

Our onshore team looks forward to creating new legacies working in partnership with communities across the county and will continue our investment in Cork for many years to come.

Collaboration in Action

Harnessing partnership for lasting change

Partnership has always been a powerful force for progress. When people, organisations and institutions come together with shared ambition, they unlock opportunities that no single voice could achieve alone.

At Cork Chamber, we believe that collaboration is not only desirable but essential: the catalyst for real, lasting change. In the current climate crisis, these partnerships are more urgent than ever. This was recently recognised on a global stage, as the Local Green Deal initiative was celebrated at the World Chambers Competition - a powerful acknowledgement of the impact that Cork’s wider community of local stakeholders is making through collective climate action.

As the voice of business in Cork, we play a unique role in making that happen. Every day, we bring together the perspectives of our members, the vision of policymakers, the expertise of academia and the reach of national and international partners. This is what gives chambers their strength; the ability to unite, convene and amplify, ensuring that good ideas have impact.

The chamber’s role – driving partnerships forward When we talk about collaboration, we mean it in the broadest sense. It is:

• Businesses working alongside one another, from multinationals to SMEs to start-ups.

• The chamber convening with local government to shape the policies and infrastructure our region needs.

• Regional partnerships with universities, innovation hubs and development agencies.

• National and EU-level advocacy, ensuring Cork’s priorities are heard where decisions are made.

• Global networks that allow us to share best practice and elevate Cork on the international stage.

Cork Chamber President, Rob Horgan; Dr Alicia Mateos-Cárdenas, REEValue and Sustainability
Lead at Cork Chamber; Rifat Hisarcıklıoğlu, Chair of ICC WCF and Conor Healy, CEO of Cork Chamber.

As SDG Champions, we see this work as a clear expression of SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals. This goal recognises that the only way to achieve meaningful sustainable development is through deep cooperation across sectors. The Local Green Deal initiative shows how alignment between business, government, academia, civil society and community organisations can move from commitment to action. By fostering trust and shared ambition, we are also contributing to Ireland’s national climate objectives and the European Green Deal, demonstrating how local initiatives reinforce broader policy goals. This ecosystem of collaboration is what positions Cork Chamber as a trusted local voice, a driver of sustainable growth for our region and, now also, a global leader.

Global recognition for local impact Collaboration is not just a principle we talk about, it is something we live. Earlier this September at the World Chambers Congress in Melbourne, Cork Chamber proudly won the World Chambers Competition for Best Collaboration of Chambers, Business and Government category, becoming the first Irish chamber to win an award in this competition.

As finalists in this highly competitive category, Dr. Alicia MateosCárdenas, our REEValue and Sustainability Lead, delivered a 5-minute pitch to an international panel of judges and an audience of hundreds of business and chamber leaders.

Drawing on the Local Green Deals initiative developed in collaboration with Cork City Council, we showed how our chamber worked hand-in-hand with the city and our members to mobilise impactful climate action commitments. The pitch highlighted the ripple effect and replicability potential of how partnerships spreading across a city can create measurable change. It also highlighted the role of chambers in leading by example, not only as advocates for business, but also as architects of sustainable growth and economic prosperity. Cork’s Local Green Deals showed the world what’s possible when business, local government and a chamber work together with ambition, accountability and shared purpose. Developed with Cork City Council and powered by the engagement of our forward-thinking members, it is a true example of local leadership with global impact.

To be recognised among such inspiring projects and chambers worldwide was a milestone moment for Cork, a recognition that our region is delivering for today, while also shaping a sustainable model for the future.

Signatory organisations that contributed to the Local Green Deals initiative

“The success of Cork’s Local Green Deals lies in genuine collaboration. By bringing together the city, organisations across Cork and the Chamber, we created partnerships that deliver measurable climate action while supporting economic resilience.”
Paul McGuirk, Senior Executive Officer,Cork City Council

The Local Green Deals

A Local Green Deal (LGD) is a partnership representing public commitments by local stakeholders across the business, private, community and voluntary sector, to take impactful climate actions in their own areas, supported by the local authority.

Cork’s 12 LGDs included awareness-raising, behavioural change, deploying innovative technologies and approaches, aligning policy and regulatory measures and unlocking cost-effective financial solutions, among other actions. All LGDs included specific measures for monitoring, milestones and timelines.

Green Deals initiative

With a wide range of organisations signing their own LGD, we achieved a number of commitments, each of them complementing the objectives of Cork City’s Local Authority Climate Action Plan under the following headings:

• Natural Environment and Resource Management

• Transport and Mobility

• Communities and Partnerships

• Built Environment and Energy

“The success of Cork’s Local Green Deals lies in genuine collaboration. By bringing together the city, organisations across Cork and the Chamber, we created partnerships that deliver

measurable climate action while supporting economic resilience. Recognition first from the European Commission’s Intelligent Cities Challenge and now on the global stage shows that when we act collectively at a local level, we can shape solutions with international relevance. This is a powerful validation of such partnerships” said Paul McGuirk, Senior Executive Officer at Cork City Council.

Looking ahead with renewed purpose

With this global award and our recognition as Chamber of the Year, Cork Chamber has never been more motivated to deliver on behalf of our members and our region. These accolades are not just achievements to celebrate, they are a call to action, reminding us of the responsibility and opportunity we hold as the voice of business.

In the years ahead, we will continue to champion collaboration at every level - local, regional, national and international. Because it is through partnership that we will deliver the infrastructure our economy needs, the innovation our businesses thrive on, and the sustainable growth our communities deserve.

Collaboration is our catalyst. And together, we will continue to shape a future where Cork is not only the best place for business, but a model of how unity and ambition can drive lasting change.

Enterprise Europe Network gains national recognition

Behind many Irish businesses breaking into new markets lies support that often goes unseen. The Enterprise Europe Network (EEN) is one such service, recently recognised with the “Best Agency Support to Business” award at the Chambers Ireland InBusiness Recognition Awards.

Now in its 13th year, the InBusiness Recognition Awards celebrate achievement, resilience and innovation across Irish enterprise. The award for Best Agency Support highlights organisations whose guidance, expertise and resources empower companies to grow and succeed.

Since 2008, EEN has supported Irish entrepreneurs and small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) to innovate, access European opportunities, and build international partnerships. The service is delivered through Enterprise Ireland, Dublin Chamber, Cork Chamber and Local Enterprise Offices, combining local expertise with global reach.

As a host organisation, for Cork Chamber, the award reflects the exceptional work of the EEN Cork team in supporting local businesses to reach new markets and unlock European opportunities. It demonstrates the strength of our localglobal approach and the power of collaboration in delivering tangible business results.

Monica Valdes, EEN Executive at Cork Chamber, added “It’s an honour to be recognised. Every day we work with Cork businesses to help them grow and connect internationally. This award belongs to the companies we support, their ambition drives what we do.”

In Cork, two companies have seen first-hand how EEN can make a difference. For BladeBridge, it began with a

consultation from the EEN team at Cork Chamber which led to an invitation to a business matchmaking event. There, they connected with over ten Dutch companies and stakeholders, which resulted in an order to design a custom podium made from recycled wind turbines.

Meanwhile, 9 White Deer Brewery in Ballyvourney turned to the EEN team for guidance on sustainability and funding. With this support, the brewery applied for the EU-funded EENergy grant to help cut energy use. They received €10,000 to invest in new technology, which reduced their CO2 emissions by 73%.

Both of these examples demonstrate how practical support and the right connections can help transform ambition into tangible results.

This national award shines a light not only on the EEN team but also on the businesses they champion. By connecting Irish companies to wider markets and opportunities, the Enterprise Europe Network continues to play a vital role in turning local ambition into international success.

Upcoming Trade Mission

The Enterprise Europe Network (EEN) at Cork Chamber is joining forces with colleagues in Latvia to host an online Trade Mission on 23 October. This year’s awards have been given fresh momentum with the announcement of KPMG as the new title sponsor, bringing with them a wealth of experience and insight that will help elevate the awards to new heights.

Rob Horgan, President of Cork Chamber, shared his thoughts on what the awards represent, “As Cork continues to grow its national and global influence, these awards offer a powerful opportunity to spotlight the inspiring journeys of local companies, both emerging and established, who are driving innovation, building resilience and shaping a more sustainable future. The involvement of KPMG as our new awards sponsor brings with it deep industry insight and a shared ambition to champion excellence in business. We are thrilled to partner with a brand so deeply connected to Ireland’s business ecosystem.”

The awards recognise excellence across four categories, Emerging, SME, Large and International Cork Company of the Year, ensuring businesses of every size and stage have the opportunity to be celebrated.

Conor Healy, CEO of Cork Chamber, emphasised the unique place these awards hold in Cork’s business community, “The Cork Company of the Year Awards are a true highlight in our calendar, celebrating the ambition and creativity that define Cork business. Each year, we are inspired by the calibre of entries and the remarkable achievements they represent. These awards shine a light on the very best of what our region has to offer, and I would encourage companies of all sizes and sectors to put themselves forward and share their success stories.”

Naoimh Frawley, Director of People, Operations & Governance at Cork Chamber, added that the awards are an important moment to reflect on Cork’s forward-thinking spirit, “In a rapidly evolving business environment, Cork companies continue to set the bar high in innovation, talent and sustainability. This year, with the fresh energy brought by our new sponsor KPMG, and the support of our media partner, the Irish Examiner, we look forward to shining an even brighter light on Cork’s most progressive and inspiring businesses. Whether you’re a start-up or a multinational, we want to hear your story.”

For KPMG, the decision to support the awards reflects a shared commitment to celebrating organisations that lead with ambition and purpose.

Cian Kelliher, Consulting Partner with KPMG, said, “KPMG is proud to support the Cork Company of the Year Awards, which celebrate the remarkable businesses contributing to Ireland’s economic success. We are excited to work with Cork Chamber to elevate the profile of Cork’s business community and to recognise organisations that are leading with purpose and ambition. These awards mirror our own values of integrity, excellence, courage, for better and together, and we look forward to an inspiring awards ahead.”

Last year’s Overall Winner, Johnson & Johnson Innovative Medicine, set the bar high by achieving both International and Overall winner status in a milestone year marking two decades in Cork. Their achievement reflects the standard of excellence these awards are known for.

The winners across all categories – and the Overall Cork Company of the Year 2026 – will be revealed at Cork Chamber’s Annual Dinner in February 2026, where we will come together once again to celebrate the very best of Cork business.

Driving Europe’s Green Transition

Insights from the REEValue International Conference

Decarbonising value chains sits at the intersection of business and sustainability. Introducing circular practices at every stage of production and supply can significantly reduce emissions while creating more resilient systems.

This September, Cork became the meeting point for some of Europe’s leading voices on sustainability as the city hosted the REEValue International Conference: Decarbonising European Value Chains, organised in partnership with Cork Chamber.

Over two packed days at the Clayton Hotel Cork City, policymakers, industry leaders, academics, and innovators came together for panel discussions, workshops, and technical sessions exploring practical solutions to accelerate decarbonisation across European value chains.

A collaborative approach to decarbonisation

The decarbonisation of value chains is one of the most pressing challenges for business and society today, requiring coordinated action from every sector. The REEValue Conference focused on how to embed circularity and sustainability at every stage of production and supply systems - with an emphasis on reducing resource use, emissions and waste.

Conor Healy, CEO of Cork Chamber, reflected on the significance of the event, “It has been remarkable to welcome such a diverse group of voices here in Cork. Over the past two days we’ve seen how collaboration and shared learning are central to finding real and sustainable solutions to the decarbonisation challenge. The REEValue project is pivotal in driving this agenda forward and we are proud to host these important discussions at a time when decisive action is needed.”

Key sessions and highlights

Day One opened with a technical session from the REEValue team and a live platform demo, led by experts from Cork Chamber, Malta Business Bureau, Associação Industrial Portuguesa and Authentic Energy Management Services.

Delegates also heard from a panel discussion including industry representatives from Sammontana, 9 White Deer Brewery and Farsons, who shared best practice in decarbonising operations in the food and beverage sector.

An afternoon panel featuring the European Investment Bank, Forvis Mazars, Malta Business Bureau and Enterprise Europe Network explored green financing and European collaboration projects – an essential enabler for scaling up climate solutions across borders.

Day Two was devoted to practical collaboration, with speed networking and a facilitated workshop session that brought participants together to explore practical steps for decarbonising value chains through collaboration.

Connecting local action with European policy

Speaking at the conference, MEP Billy Kelleher underlined the importance of linking EU policy with on-the-ground innovation, “Decarbonising value chains is one of the greatest economic and environmental challenges facing Europe, but it is critical that meaningful steps are undertaken to ensure the green transition reaches every layer of European value chains. What we have seen here in Cork is the real potential of businesses, researchers and policymakers working handin-hand. The EU is committed to supporting projects like REEValue that bridge the gap between EU decarbonisation ambitions and local actions that deliver real change and secure our competitiveness in a globalised economy.”

A European project with Cork at its heart

Dr Alicia Mateos-Cárdenas, REEValue and Sustainability

Lead at Cork Chamber, closed the event by highlighting the collaborative ambition of the project:

“REEValue was established to accelerate solutions that integrate sustainability across entire value chains. This conference has demonstrated the power of cross-border collaboration and knowledge-sharing. By working together, we can move from ambition to action and build greener, more resilient economies for the future.”

The REEValue project is a cornerstone LIFE-funded initiative dedicated to decarbonise European value chains through collaboration. Cork’s role as host city underlines the region’s growing reputation as a hub for sustainability leadership and green innovation.
