Blue skies in Iceland

July and August 2019

Dear friends It was one of the few things I regret not doing when I worked in London many decades ago. Since sadly, I did not find the time to attend a Prom concert in the Albert Hall. Because, if you did attend 4 concerts, you were entitled to buy a ticket for the last night. And, what bigger musical blockbuster can there be than that evening of frolics, fugues and fantasia?

Of course, we all know how the programme will go. It is the same every year.

Traditionally, the evening concludes with sea shanties and the hearty singing of Rule Britannia.

Now, this could appear a tad parochial. But, the rumbustiousness of an audience drawn from across the planet, all cheering and waving their own countries’ flags, dispels any outdated nationalism. It just typifies humanity enjoying God’s gift of summer days.

So whether you can sing or play an instrument, may music warm your summer.

May the gift of music help you say thanks to God for all his blessings. Above all, may the companionship that music offers be a constant reminder of the presence of Christ who is with us in every season to come.

Car Pool The Car Pool is available every Sunday for your convenience. The drivers are willing to come and pick you up from your home to bring you to the service then take you home again afterwards. Please make us of this service by phoning the named driver for the appropriate Sunday. You can phone the day before or up until 10 am on the day.

Please, please, if you are a car driver would you consider joining our car pool? We have so many members who require lifts to church that the drivers are having to do two runs. If you could help about once a month it would be very useful. Contact me if you can help.

Diamond Wedding Anniversary John and Patricia Alexander were married on 11th July 1959 in Ward Chapel Congregational Church, Dundee. Two Ministers officiated, The Rev H.T. Donaldson & The Rev John Alexander of Strathmartine Church.
