St Luke’s & Queen Street Church Congregational News

Snowy scene on a walk near Bishop Hill in Fife on Tuesday

February 2020

Dear friends Firstly, may I wish you a happy New Year. Now, this is the time for resolutions for a fresh year. But we know that most will be broken within a few weeks at best. So, I think, it is better to think about annual goals. What is the difference you might ask? Well resolutions tend to be things that we should do but don't want to do. On the other hand, the achieving of goals gives us a genuine benefit maybe even enjoyment. They are things we should do and want to do! What then might be our goals together for 2020? Well, we could start by planning on coming along to St Luke’s at least once a month. For nowadays we offer a wide variety of worship styles. Some are informal and others are in a more traditional mode. Put simply, there is always something for everybody. Moreover, who can doubt that an hour spent with Christ’s family will set us up for the week ahead. Similarly, we have a wide range of social activities offering opportunities to meet new friends and reinforce old ones. In our private lives, maybe we should also set a goal to maintain our relationship with God. Since just a few minutes every day reading our bibles in stillness and prayer could reap more rewards than we can imagine. However, whatever you choose to do with the year ahead, be assured Jesus’ goal is to keep you in his love and protection. What else then do we need to achieve more? With ever best wish for 2020 With every blessing

Graham

Guild Due to unforeseen circumstances the speaker for the 28th November was unable to give her talk on Jute. John Alexander saved the day and gave a very interesting talk on Sicily. His April slot will now be filled by Sandra Thomson giving her talk on the Story of Jute. The Christmas party was a great success and we had an extremely enjoyable musical afternoon being entertained by pupils from Grove Academy. We were joined by regulars from the Café of Memories. The Bible Study on the 9th January was led by Rev. Taylor. We split into three groups and each was given a passage from the bible to discuss. The meeting on 23rd January was again, unfortunately, without a speaker due to personal circumstances. Instead we had an enjoyable and competitive afternoon playing dominoes. FEBRUARY PROGRAMME 6th - New Kirk Singers 20th - Walking the Angus Glens We are always looking for more members but if you do not wish to commit to this we are always pleased if you can come to our meetings on a regular basis as it is more heartening for our speakers. Social Committee It is with regret due to ill health that I will have to leave this group. I would like to thank the team for all their support. They are a joy to work with. Can I encourage someone to take over this position so that we can continue to have a busy and enjoyable social calendar. With best wishes Anne Anderson
