GUILD On 20th October we had Martin Allan, the new City Archivist giving a talk on the history of Poor Relief in Dundee. Our speaker on 3rd November was Alastair McIntosh who told us of his trip on the Panama Canal as well as its history. We had our fundraiser Afternoon Tea on 17th November when we were entertained by The Glee Club. This was a most enjoyable afternoon of song and also a lot of witty banter between the conductor and the accompanist. We would like to thank all who supported this event either by their attendance, donations of food and also the help given in the preparation and serving of the teas. Forthcoming meetings include a talk on the Butterfly Trust (Cystic Fibrosis), our Christmas party when we will be entertained by the pupils of Eastern Primary and in to the new year we will have a talk on Aloe Vera and a demonstration by Wiltshire Farm Foods. Church members, family and friends are all invited to any of these meetings and a warm welcome is assured. Elizabeth Bates, Secretary

Good News in November CONGRATULATIONS to our minister for his uplifting Guild Dedication service on 6th November. He did not shrink from revealing the sheer horror of unnecessary and life threatening operations inflicted on some young eightyear-old girls. One of this year’s guild projects is Feed the Mind, an attempt to stop cruel surgery through education. The other project is Caring for Mother Earth in Bolivia. The message of the service was illustrated by the tale of Jonah and the Whale. CONGRATULATIONS to Jamie Robert Murray OBE for reaching World Number One in men’s tennis doubles. This is the first time a British player has reached this pinnacle. CONGRATULATIONS to Andrew Barron Murray OBE, affectionately known as Andy Murray, for reaching World Number One in men’s tennis singles. This is the first time a British player has received this accolade. Even more remarkably this is the only time that brothers have won these prestigious positions. Andy is very modest and if an award for self-deprecation existed, Andy would be the outright winner. CONGRATULATIONS to Andy Murray, who is a World Wildlife Fund ambassador, for signing a petition already signed by 155,000 people ahead of a conference on the illegal wildlife trade in Hanoi, Vietnam.
