Nixon Hire Achieves Brighter, Safer Working Environment and 64% Reduction in Annual Energy Costs with Lighting Upgrade
Founded in 1967, Nixon Hire is a leading provider of plant, site accommodation, welfare facilities, portable toilets & solar solutions for hire across the UK.
THE CHALLENGE
Nixon Hire was faced with the challenge of reducing energy consumption and improving lighting levels in their warehouses. The existing lighting scheme consisted of fluorescent tube linear fittings, which are being phased out by September 2023 in accordance with the EU and UK government’s updated RoHS Directive.
THE SOLUTION
To address this challenge, CEMA Lighting conducted a site audit and identified subpar lighting levels due to outdated fluorescent tube fittings. CEMA Lighting proposed a solution that would not only increase lighting levels to the BS EN 12464-1:2021 recommended 500 lux levels but also maximise efficiency savings.
CEMA Lighting’s in-house installation team installed the exclusive Super High-Output IP65 Circular HighBay, which provides brighter and whiter light, resulting in a safer and more uniformly lit working environment. With a lifespan of 100,000 hours, maintenance requirements are significantly reduced.

THE RESULT
The results of the project were significant. Nixon Hire saw improved safety and wellbeing for employees across the warehouses, a 64% reduction in annual energy costs, and a very short return on investment of 0.42 years. In addition, the company was able to achieve a reduction in their carbon footprint by 4.72 tonnes annually - the equivalent to planting more than 28 trees every year.
