THE ROCKIES' REPORT

A Note From Alice Reimer Welcome to The Rockies' Report, a quarterly newsletter proving Site updates to the community that fuels our work at CDL-Rockies. As Alberta and the world continues to reopen, as businesses embrace new ways of working and delivering goods and services, I think about the need to share our stories and feel connected to our community now more than ever before. Stories that remind us of the resolve, patience and yes, entrepreneurial spirit that originally built our province. For CDL-Rockies, this means sharing stories and celebrating the people, organizations and ventures that give purpose to our work. People like CDL-Rockies Honorary Founding Fellow, Dr. Chen Fong, whose unwavering commitment to mentor the next generation of Canadian entrepreneurs was recognized, in part, as the 28th recipient of the Distinguished Business Leader Award or Dr. Elizabeth Cannon, who recently accepted the Calgary Influential Women in Business (CIWB) award for Lifetime Achievement as well as a Doctor of Laws, honoris causa from the University of Toronto, highlighting a trailblazing career that continues to inspire and motivate women pursuing careers in STEM. There are so many members of our Rockies’ community doing amazing work and we are excited to share more of these faces through our Mentor Spotlight. Our partners provide us with the financial support to deliver the CDL program, as well as valuable industry insight that ensures ventures participating in the program deliver products into markets with ready and willing customers. Partners like Canadian Natural Resources, Imperial and Suncor Energy,

who are collaborating in the Oil Sands Pathways to Net Zero initiative with the goal to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions from oil sands operations by 2050. In the Partners in Innovation and Around the Corner sections of this newsletter, we aim to uplift our partners’ voices, promoting the programs, initiatives and services they have developed specifically for the startup ecosystem. The generosity of time and talent from this amazing group of individuals and organizations surrounds the fantastic ventures we welcome into the program annually. Ventures like Index Biosystems, a graduate from the inaugural Ag Stream featured in our Venture View. Founders like Mike Borg and David Singer embody our mission to build something massive and demonstrates the character and values we need as we all play our part in building a better world for all. Welcome to The Rockies’ Report, we’re excited to share our stories with you.

Sincerely,

Alice Reimer
