UNITED TRAFFIC MANAGEMENT How long have you been in business? UTM has been operating for the past two years.

Where are you located? Our depot is currently located on South Terrace at Wingfield.

How did you start your business? Tanya and Paul decided to start UTM after quite a few long conversations about having their own business and doing something that could utilise both their skills from previous areas of employment. Tanya has a therapeutic social work background and has worked with both children and adults who have had traumatic experiences. She thought that she would make a great employer to her own staff as she could offer them the support and care that she felt she needed to give, from experiences gained over the years through some of her roles. Paul has experience in making things grow from nothing to something extraordinary, such as the music festival he has had running for over four years. He is the gatherer of people and brings everyone together and makes anything possible. Tanya was pregnant with their daughter (now 19 months old) and Paul was working in the civil construction industry, working 12-hour days, 6 days a week. Tanya and Paul decided to buy three utes and start their own traffic management company as a way to be able to work from home and be together.

Completed project/products or services you have worked on or have that you are most proud of?

After a few months of UTM being up and running, an opportunity came along to purchase an existing company (CSA). This quickly turned their 3-ute operation into a fully functioning 30-vehicle and over 50 employees enterprise. After 18 months in business, a change of management took place and Jordan joined as the Operations Manager. Jordan has over 18 years of experience both on the road and in management positions. Shortly after, Darren joined the UTM team and became the General Manager. He too has over 18 years of experience working both on the road as Traffic Controller and Operations Manager for other traffic management companies. Both Darren and Jordan have extensive knowledge in the industry and no job is too large or small.

UTM is proud of all its projects be them large or small. UTM has been working closely on the NBN rollout with Fulton Hogan, Charles Sturt Council’s upgrade of Sportsmans Drive at West Lakes, and most recently, the reconstruction of Grand Junction Road between Main North Road and Hampstead Road with Topcoat Asphalt, just to name a couple.

What are your core business activities/specialties?

United Traffic currently has between 50 — 60 casual traffic controllers and 5 office staff.

How many machines do you have in your fleet and what types? United Traffic has 30 fully equipped traffic vehicles in its fleet. These are mainly Mazda BT50s and Ford Rangers. We also have a Hino truck and are looking at expanding with a few more in the next few months.
