The Infinite, Unchanging Love of God for You Have you ever felt your love for others growing thin during stressful times? That’s when we need to remember that love is a decision, not a feeling, and we choose to love. In Matthew 24:12-14, Jesus tells us to persevere in our love for God through difficult times: “Because lawlessness will abound, the love of many will grow cold. But he who endures to the end shall be saved.” He then says: “And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in all the world as a witness to all the nations, and then the end will come”. As believers, our goal is to see the Gospel preached to every nation, and our motivation is love. So why will the love of many grow cold?
During times of lawlessness and persecution, there’s a natural tendency to stop loving. However, that is precisely when God wants us to claim whole nations for His kingdom by sharing His love in word and deed. Galatians 6:9 promises, let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart. We don’t want to lose a great harvest because we have grown weary. So how do we get love that perseveres? This can only come from God, who is love (see 1 John 4:8). And John 3:16 tells us, “God so loved the world”—that’s you! — “that He gave His only begotten Son.” Get rid of wrong thoughts so you don’t react based on old ways of thinking—out of fear, loneliness or lack.
