04 Catholic Owned Magazine

From the Desk of Monsignor

Dear friends of Catholic Owned, family members and benefactors,

The Holy Liturgy of the Catholic Church is very rich these days when we celebrate with fervor the great mysteries of our faith. The Paschal Triduum initiates with De Missa Solemni Vespertina in Cena Domini, the solemn Mass of the Lord's Supper. The Synoptic accounts (Matthew, Mark and Luke) of the Last Supper give us a unified impression: Our Lord gathered His Apostles into the upper room to transform the old feast of the Passover into a new one Therefore, the Liturgy of the Eucharist succeeds the ancient Passover ritual and supersedes the memorial meal in its essential aspects In place of the lamb (animal), Jesus becomes the true sacrificial lamb made present in the Sacrament The old Exodus from Egypt is replaced by the new exodus from the spiritual oppressions of sin and death.

At the institution of the Eucharist, the old covenant gives way to the New and Eternal Covenant in His Blood. The Liturgy of the Eucharist makes Christ present, Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity It makes His redemption present every time a Mass is celebrated

The Church believes, celebrates and teaches about the Real Presence of Christ in the Eucharist It is the Sacrament of piety, sign of unity and the bond of charity as St Thomas Aquinas explained it

When Catholics today speak about the Real Presence, we realize there is a crisis. In 2019, a Pew Research Center survey concluded that only 31% of Catholics in the United States believed that the bread and wine become the real Body and Blood of Christ. About 69% hold erroneous beliefs. A real majority seemed to ignore the truth and others recognized it but just as symbolic in nature Nevertheless, the Eucharist is at the heart of the life of the Catholic Church

"The Church lives on the Eucharist" was John Paul II 's last encyclical letter Indeed, by the words of Christ and the invocation of the Holy Spirit, Christ’s Body and Blood become substantially present for the Church He becomes our heavenly food at the Eucharistic banquet.

The centrality of this Sacrament is affirmed by the Church's consistent teaching about the connection between the priesthood and the Eucharist. It is out of the very essence of the Eucharist that the priesthood comes into being The institution of the Eucharist and the ministerial priesthood are both celebrated on Holy Thursday night John Paul II put it clearly when he said, "There is no priesthood without the Eucharist and no Eucharist without the priesthood " The night before He died, He washed the feet of His disciples, teaching them that every act of service was to be motivated by true humility and love.

It has been the authentic practice of the faithful to properly prepare before receiving our Lord in the Eucharist. No one should receive communion in the state of mortal sin and it is better to wait to confess one’s sins with a priest before receiving It is also best not to receive communion in one’s hands but to continue the Traditional practice of receiving on the tongue Minute particles can remain on our fingers or fall directly on our clothes or on the floor where we walk The Church has always taught that the size or quantity of the elements do not determine the real presence of the Lord A careless practice could easily become sacrilegious Celebrated by the Church after the Resurrection, the Eucharist "proclaims the death of the Lord until He comes again." The Church continues to do what Jesus did at the Last Supper but in a different way. The Mass is a sacrifice and it is offered sacramentally in an unbloody way through the hands of an ordained priest. May we participate in each Mass with great devotion and receive our Lord with reverence and love Blessed Easter to all

Renee Smith, M.S. CCC-SLP

Owner & Pediatric Speech Therapist, Grace Therapy Solutions

Serving Children via Telehealth throughout Florida

Helping Children to: communicate functionally advocate for their individual needs improve academic achievement connect socially with peers, family & friends

Grace Therapy Solutions provides virtual speech and language services to children with communication needs all throughout Florida. Parents often struggle to keep up with children and family members’ appointments, sports, hobbies, etc. This makes teletherapy a convenient option for families who want to participate in their child’s speech and language therapy sessions from the comfort of their own home!

As a daughter of immigrants, the importance of hard work was instilled in me as a child. My parents encouraged me to, not only follow my passions, but to find a way to make my passions work for me Upon entering the field of speech-language pathology, I knew that I wanted to someday have my own private practice In 2022, I married my husband who is in the military and moved away from my childhood home in Florida to live in North Carolina With my husband’s job causing him to spend so much time away from home, and with our first baby on the way, I realized that I needed to find a way to stay home while still contributing income to our household. That’s what inspired me to make my private practice virtual- so that I can be a stay-athome mom and still live out my passion of helping children improve their communication skills.

Throughout my career as a speech therapist, I have worked with children of all ages who have various types of disabilities that might affect their communication, i.e. Language Disorders, Speech Sound Disorders, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Sound

Disorders, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Down Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy, Emotional Behavior Disorders, Learning Disabilities, etc. The treatment I provide as a speech therapist is individually tailored to each client’s needs, therefore positively impacting the ability to communicate functionally, advocate for his or her wants/needs, improve academic achievement, and connect socially with peers So far as a speech therapist, I have helped dozens of children master their speech and language goals and graduate from speech therapy, being able to say all speech sounds correctly, perform at grade/age level in language arts, and communicate functionally with family and friends

I learned how to integrate my faith in my work by following the example of my mother, Gizel Abdallah. She worked for over 20 years as a Church Music Director and Music Teacher, and is currently doing so at All Saints Catholic Church and School in Sunrise, Florida. At 8 years old, I started singing with my mother in the church, whether it was as part of the school choir or as a cantor at weekend Masses, and continued singing at Masses with her as an adult. She set the ultimate example of how to use the gifts that God has blessed you with to glorify Him in return. I recognize that God has blessed me with the gift to be able to help children with communication needs So it is my duty to be able to share this gift with families

My Catholic faith also inspired the name of my practice – Grace Therapy Solutions As Catholics we know that the only real solution to any of our problems, difficulties or obstacles in life lies in offering them all up to the Lord because he is the Ultimate Solution And we are only granted solutions through His loving grace God’s grace is healing Throughout my career I have prayed for the grace to be patient and loving during trying times. And I am constantly giving grace to my clients who struggle daily to communicate, and to parents who might be juggling countless responsibilities.

Growing up with a musical mom, our favorite saint was always St. Cecilia. She is the patron saint of music and musicians, mainly singers. She used her voice to worship and glorify God. As a speech therapist, I like to think that my helping children to use their voice is glorification to God as well.

Floriani Sacred Music

Nonprofit Revitalizing Sacred Music in America

Floriani Sacred Music is dedicated to serving the Church and saving the culture through the beauty of sacred music. We believe in the power of Sacred Beauty to awaken and deepen a desire for Christ and His Church

By singing for liturgies, performing educational concerts, and teaching, both in person and remotely with our online course, Gregorian Chant Academy, and our Chant School Podcast, we introduce people of all musical backgrounds to the Church’s rich heritage of liturgical music. Giorgio Navarini founded Floriani originally as a barbershop group as a student at Thomas Aquinas College, where he met Thomas, Joe and Graham, each of whom sang in his choir at different times. Eventually, they moved on from barbershop to sacred music, and realized it was this which they truly loved to sing Years later, after

they’d all long graduated, they reconnected, quit their jobs, and moved to Arizona to begin Floriani as a non-profit men’s vocal ensemble with a mission to revitalize sacred music throughout the world

Floriani is proud to have taught and developed a devoted children’s choir in Phoenix, AZ for almost three years These young choristers have proved to be a remarkable testimony to the accessibility of sacred

music, as they have grown so proficient as to perform, often while conducting themselves, for Masses, weddings and concerts. The choristers’ own love for sacred music is infectious to those who hear them, almost inevitably moving the heart and soul of the listener

In the Vatican II document, “Sacrosanctum Concilium,” sacred music is said to be “a treasure of inestimable value, greater than that of any other art ” Our mission is to inspire a renaissance of sacred beauty through the music of the Church, whereby hearts might be able to encounter Christ, the Source of Beauty.

St Florian is our patron, from whom we take our name He is Giorgio’s Confirmation saint, and is attributed by Giorgio to have saved him from nearly drowning Giorgio did not know when he chose him as his saint that St Florian is the patron of drowning victims!

Our favorite quote would be the one mentioned above from Sacrosanctum Concilium, as it establishes the preeminence of sacred music, as an art, in the liturgy

The Fund for Vocations

Nonprofit Unlocking Vocations Nationwide

Studies show that around 1/3 of those who want to makes vows as priests, friars and sisters are unable to due to student loans, since candidates must be debt-free to enter formation

The Fund for Vocations eliminates the obstacle of student loan debt so that no vocation is lost.

By actively working to alleviate the debt burden for candidates, we have opened the door for over 300 future religious, and are actively supporting members of almost 100 traditional communities, including Dominicans, CFRs, Sisters of Life, Benedictines, ICKSP, and so many more.

When a young Catholic is accepted to formation with a traditional religious order but cannot enter because of their student loans, we make their monthly payments out of a donation-based fund. We keep paying on a monthly basis until they take their final vows, after which we pay off the remainder within five years. If they discern out, they simply pick up where we left off.

The Fund for Vocations started as a mom-andpop apostolate of Corey and Katherine Huber, two very generous and faithful Catholics. They discovered a huge cause of the vocations crisis to be the burden of student loan debts. Most orders will not even allow someone to enter formation with loans. They created a fund out of which to award grants to young Catholics to support a new generation of religious. When they received a flood of applications, they expanded and fundraised to create a 501(c)3.

Many of our grant recipients would attest that they would not have been able to become religious without our help One Mercedarian sister, Sr Yvelyne Marie, HMSS, wrote, “I am beyond grateful for your support, not only financially but spiritually I would not be a Religious today, if not for you

Thank you so much for your immense generosity and sacrifice May the Lord reward you and grant you many blessings You are in my prayers and have a very special place in my heart God bless you!!”

Our Catholic Faith is at the absolute center of everything we do Our donors are inspired to give because they understand the importance of making the Church a light for the world, and the crucial role that Catholic religious play in that effort We are changing the world and renewing a Christ-centered, vibrant Catholic culture by enabling passionate young religious to do God’s will

Our nonprofit is very streamlined and has only two full time employees Mary Radford, our executive director, has a quote in her email signature from St Catherine of Siena: “If you are what you should be, you will set the world on fire!” Our communications director, Elizabeth Latham has one from St Ambrose: “It is not enough just to wish well; we must also do well ” Both are deeply devoted Catholics in love with their faith

The Catholic faith informs everything we do at Alva Leon. Two favorite saints of mine are St. Maria Goretti and St. George are my favorite Saints, precisely because they are both so different, but both provide such incredible examples of bravery and purity. In particular, St. George was there for me when I first started to become interested in the Faith as I explored the Old Gothic Cathedral in Barcelona I would create a Youtube video that was a reading of the original story of St George, and this video would become one of my most watched and beloved. Later on, I would learn about St. Maria Goretti and she would become a great friend and confidant for me, and was even able to go to see all the places she lived in in Italy. Truly both of these great saints are sources of comfort for me and have helped me through their intercessions in incredible ways throughout the years

The Death of Our Lord: A Medical Perspective

The death of Jesus Christ on the cross in approximately 33 AD is arguably the most significant event in the last, approximately, 2000 years. The events of and following have formed one of the back bones of the Christian religion for thousands of years. Arguably as important is the method in which Jesus died, crucifixion.

Reserved for revolutionaries and criminals, it was a humiliating execution method employed by the Roman Empire around the time of Jesus However, the Crucifix (the form of the cross featuring Jesus’ dying body on it) would be the symbol of Jesus’ sacrifice for the sins of billions of Catholics across history and the current world Much has been written in Catholic circles on the spiritual significance of the Crucifixion, including various devotions related to the event, but little on the medical impact of the physical trauma of the event.

The generally secular medical community has several pieces of literature on the topic. There have been six main theories proposed as to how He actually died on the cross:

1 Pulmonary Embolism

The dominant theory, Asphyxiation

2 Cardiac Rupture

3 Suspension Trauma

4. Fatal stab wound 5. Shock6.

A recent literature review of the topic proposed that the majority of medical professionals agree that Jesus died from a combination of asphyxiation and the fatal stab wound in the Gospel of John

The Roman writer Quintilian in Declamationes 6 9 stated that a common method to ensure the crucified individual was dead is a stab wound at the side of their chest. Afterwards, they would return the body of the crucified to the family. Both events occur in the Gospel of John.

The case for asphyxiation is a result of the position of Jesus’ Precious Body on the cross Normally, the body would use the diaphragm to breathe in and out With Jesus in an outstretched position on the cross, His ability to breathe normally would be severely limited This would ultimately reduce the blood flow to His body. Over time, His heart and other organs would begin to fail from the lack of circulating oxygen. Eventually, death would come as He would succumb to suffocation. This is on top of the already heavy loss of blood He suffered from the scourging, the crown of thorns, and many injuries sustained on His way to Calvary, His Shoulder Wound being a notable one In some cases, it is also customary to break a person’s legs to prevent them from normalizing their body position by pushing up on the feet in order to gasp for air Jesus’ legs were not broken as He was thought to be dead and they eventually pierced His chest instead. Overall, the medical explanation of Jesus’s crucifixion can hammer home the pain Our Lord suffered for us on the Cross. It is the crossroads where the spiritual and physical realities of Our Lord’s Sacrifice come together to reinforce the ultimate reality that He died on the Cross for our sins and is our Savior

SEPTET OF THE FIRST SORROW: THE CIRCUMCISION OF CHRIST AND SIMEON’S PROPHESY

THE FIRST SORROW of the Blessed Virgin Mary was when she presented her most holy Son to undergo the prescribed rite of circumcision. It was at that time that she heard the prediction of Simeon that the divine Infant would become a “sign of contradiction” to many and that a sword of sorrow was also destined to pass through her own heart

Our Father...

IO Mother most sorrowful! What bitter pain your heart did feel on account of the blood shed by your infant Son at His circumcision. Teach me, I pray, to circumcise all the inordinate or ungoverned passions of my own soul.

Hail Mary...

II

O Virgin most afflicted-through the love and pain which you felt when you received your infant Son, still bleeding from His circumcision, back into your arms-grant, I beseech you, the grace always to receive Christ with the same tender love and affection in the most holy Sacrament of the Eucharist

Hail Mary...

III

Mother of Sorrows, through the pity and compassion which you felt in your heart when you carried your newly-circumcised Son back to your home, wound my heart with the tender pain of compassion towards all those who suffer.

Hail Mary...

IV

Through that anguish and anxiety of mind which the prophetic words of Simeon caused you as you pondered them and wondered over them, grant to me, O Mother, the ability to contemplate your sorrows deeply and sensitively and to penetrate wisely the mysteries of Sacred Scripture.

Hail Mary...

VO Virgin, your sorrow was renewed when you washed and dressed your newly-circumcised Son and saw again the wound He had suffered Renew constantly in my own heart my love for Jesus each time I meditate upon all that He suffered for my salvation.

Hail Mary...

Most loving Mother, each time you heard your most beloved Jesus crying out, your own heart felt that it would burst. Fill me with similar tears whenever I consider the holy and saving wounds of Christ.

Hail Mary...

VII

Virgin most holy, the wound of your Son’s circumcision had barely healed when you heard of the wicked plan of Herod to put Him to death, and you were filled with new anguish and tears because of this Grant that I may also be filled with tears when I consider how that, through my own sins, I have brought about the necessity of Christ’s death and contributed to His sufferings

Hail Mary...

THE SECOND SORROW of the Blessed Virgin Mary was when she, together with Jesus and Joseph, was compelled to flee secretly at night into the distant land of Egypt to escape Herod’s wicked attempts to kill the holy Infant

Our Father...

Mother filled with the most bitter grief, you were forced to flee into Egypt with your beloved Son on account of the pride and ambition of Herod. Grant that, through true humility, I may prepare a quiet, safe and welcoming place of refuge for you and your Son within my heart.

Hail Mary...

SEPTET OF THE SECOND SORROW: THE FLIGHT INTO EGYPT II

Most sorrowful Lady, often during this hard journey you beheld your Son, a tender baby, shivering from cold and exposed to rain and wind. Help me to be patient in accepting and enduring all the difficult circumstances and adverse conditions which I may sometimes encounter in the journey of this mortal life.

Hail Mary...

Hail Mary... III

Uniquely blessed Virgin and Mother, during your flight to Egypt, you--together with your Son, Jesus, and your spouse, Saint Joseph-bravely sustained hunger and thirst because of the unavoidable shortages of the basic necessities of life-namely, food and drink Grant that I, like you, may bear all deprivations, poverty and insufficiencies with a cheerful and patient soul.

Virgin most tender, I know that during your flight to Egypt, you endured much fatigue and exhaustion without the least complaint or resentment. Make me diligent and strong in laboring for your sake and for the glory of your Son and His holy Church, and let me not be overly eager in seeking out rest and recreation from my duties.

Hail Mary...

Mother of tears, you wept bitterly when you came to know in spirit the slaughter of the innocents which took place through the cruelty and wickedness of Herod May I also weep sincerely for the pain and distress I have caused others, especially through my own sins and selfishness.

Hail Mary... VI

Beloved Mother-through the merits of the long and lonely exile which you underwent during those years in Egypt- teach me to accept the trials and adversities of this life, even if they last for a long time.

Hail Mary...

Mother most patient, when you learned that the angel had revealed to Joseph that the appointed time for leaving Egypt and returning home had arrived, you realized that this meant having to repeat an arduous and perilous journey, with all its discomforts and hardships. Grant me the grace to accept the will of God and of my legitimate superiors with humility and obedience, even when it involves undergoing hardships and difficulties

Hail Mary...

SEPTET OF THE THIRD SORROW: WHEN THE BOY JESUS WAS LOST FOR THREE DAYS

THE THIRD SORROW of the most precious Virgin occurred when her Son, Jesus-then a boy of just twelve years of age- was lost in Jerusalem, and she, together with Joseph, sought Him with great anxiety and concern for three days before finally finding Him in the Temple.

Our Father...

O Mother of mercy, when your Son was lost to you, you suffered immense anxiety and sorrow because of your separation from Him. Grant, I pray, that I may never lose sight of Jesus through my sins and negligence but may constantly keep His beloved presence before my eyes and always be close to Him.

Hail Mary...

Most sorrowful Lady, as your divine Son grew up and matured, so too did your own sorrows increase, for you sensed that HIs many rivals and foes were beginning to look upon Him with envy and suspicion and even then beginning to plot against HIs life. Help me to follow the example of your Son and to remain constant and quietly patient in the face of all opposition and persecution,

Hail Mary...

III

O Mother, afflicted with the bitterness of pain, it was the same human blood that you had conceived in your womb which your Son sweated in the garden of Gethsemane. Grant that I may love your Son just as you loved Him and be ready to express this love, even with my own tears and blood whenever necessary

Hail Mary...

IV

Suffering Mother, you were filled with unspeakable disappointment and regret when you heard that the treacherous Judas Iscariot had betrayed your beloved Son Fill me with genuine remorse for all the times I too have betrayed your Son through committing sin, and thus have brought disappointment and sorrow to you also.

Hail Mary...

V

Desolate Mother, when you had hears that Jesus had been arrested, you were struck with inexpressible dread and horror Grant me the grace of amending and correcting all my sins, vices, failings and negligence whereby I have hurt your Son or failed to show Him due reverence and love.

Hail Mary...

VI

Virgin Mother, your heart became like a vast sea of sorrow when you witnessed your Son being scourged with whips and crowned with thorns! Indeed, you felt His pain as if it were your own Make me also to share in the pain which both you and He felt at this time and to experience, through true compassion, the pain of others as if it were my own.

Hail Mary...

O Mother of God, you exceed all other created beings in immaculate purity and perfect sanctity! Through the merits of your fried and suffering when you heard the fateful sentence of death passed against your Son, protect me from the sentence of eternal damnation and never-ending death when I face Him as my Judge on that dreaded final day.

SEPTET OF THE FOURTH SORROW:

JESUS

CARRIES HIS CROSS TO CALVARY

THE FOURTH SORROW of the Blessed Virgin was when she met her most beloved Son as He was carrying the cross upon His shoulders to Calvary, the place of His execution.

Our Father... I

O Mary, through that maternal love which caused you to follow in the bloodstained footsteps of Jesus, draw me after yourself so that I may share your sorrows and, with you, faithfully follow your Son as He carries the cross of our salvation.

Hail Mary...

Virgin most afflicted, your pain and anguish was renewed with each drop of blood which you saw fall to the earth from the body of your beloved Son Grant me the grace that I myself may not renew or contribute to your sorrows through any lack of restraint of my own vision, or by letting my eyes be directed by idle curiosity, cupidity, or list.

Hail Mary... II

O desolate Mother, you beheld your poor Child often to fall under the weight of the cross which He carried as He made His way to Calvary, and then to be goaded on by the cruelty of the executioners. May I never renew or add to the weight which Christ has to bear through my own sins and wickedness.

Hail Mary...

O mournful Mother, how immense was your sorrow when you saw your Son to be stripped of His vestments at the hill of Calvary so that all the wounds which He bore upon His body were once more exposed to your loving eyes! Do not permit me, I beseech you, ever to be stripped of the vestments of grace which I have received through baptism by the diabolical enemies of my soul.

Hail Mary...

Through those nails which pierced the hands and feet of Jesus, and in doing so, pierced your own heart as well, let my heart be pierced with a constant and ardent love for you and for your Son.

Hail Mary...

Mother inconsolable, through that torment with which you witnessed your Son be affixed to the hard wood of the cross, you yourself almost expired from the very intensity of your grief. Mat I learn to bear my own crosses with humility and fortitude, especially those which are the result of my own sins

Hail Mary...

VII

Virgin most sorrowful, you beheld the cross being raised up, and the body of your Son to be tormented terribly as His wounds and pains were renewed by the weight place upon them. Make me ever mindful, I pray, of the unfathomable magnitude of the suffering which Jesus and you endured for the sake of my sins, and the immense price which He paid for my redemption

Hail Mary...

SEPTET OF THE FIFTH SORROW: THE DEATH OF JESUS UPON THE CROSS

THE FIFTH SORROW of the Mother of God was when Jesus was raised up on the cross and she witnessed Him due there in pain, all the while being mocked by the malicious crowds.

Our Father...

Suffering Mother, you saw and heard your divine and innocent Son being mocked and blasphemed as He hung upon the cross in agony Grant to me, I pray, that I may help to atone for the derision He then suffered by praising and blessing Him for all eternity in heaven

Hail Mary...

Desolate Mother, through that spirit and love and obedience which transfixed your heart and caused you to accept the apostle Saint John as your adopted son and guardian, help me to be a faithful servant to you, and lovingly accept me as your adopted son or daughter.

Hail Mary...

Mother of peerless strength and courage, how immense was the anguish with which you heard your Son cry out in despair to His heavenly Father, “Why has thou abandoned me?” May I learn to confide and trust in you utterly at all times, even when I have fallen into sin, and most especially at the hour of my death

Lady of sorrows, you endured hearing your Son cy out that He thirsted, yet grieved that you had no means to assuage that thirst Grant that I may satisfy the thirst of your Son, for He thirsts most of all for my salvation. Help me also to be generous in satisfying the legitimate hungers and needs of my neighbors.

Hail Mary...

Hail Mary... V

Most merciful Mother, when your Son died, you witnessed the heavens become dark and the very stones to be torn apart. Grant that the stony hardness of my heart may be softened by vehement contemplation of your sorrows and by true compunction for my sins, especially when my own senses are darkened by the approach of death

VI

Holy Mary, you stood faithfully at the foot of the cross while you underwent incomprehensible anguish of seeing your only-begotten Son breathing His last Stand by me too, my Mother, as I struggle to bear the weight of my own many weaknesses and failings

Hail Mary...

VII

Most merciful Lady, through that pang of sorrow and love which you felt when you saw the side of your beloved Son being torn open by that cruel lance, hide me in the holy wound of that same love from the righteous fury which my sins have merited on the final Day of Judgement.

Hail Mary...

SEPTET OF THE SIXTH SORROW: THE LIFELESS BODY OF CHRIST IS PLACED IN THE ARMS OF HIS MOTHER

THE SIXTH SORROW of Our Lady was when Christ was taken down from the cross, and she received His lifeless and cruelly wounded body into her maternal embrace.

Our Father...

Ever-Virgin Mother, when you received the dead and blood-smeared body of your Son into your arms, you embraced Him with indescribable tenderness, kissing His wounds with infinite love and mercy. Teach me to contemplate His saving wounds often and intently with something of the same love and compassion I

Most patient Lady, the tears you shed as you held the body of Jesus flowed over His tender skin in abundant streams, washing His wounds clean from the copious blood which covered them. May I also wash away the stains of my own sins with the tears of true repentance.

Hail Mary... II

Sweetest Mother, through the triple sorrow which you experienced when you beheld the three nails by which your Son had been affixed to the cross, affix my memory, my intellect, and will firmly to constant love of Jesus and you

Hail Mary... IV

TO Queen of martyrs, how great was your sorrow when you accepted into your hands that bloody crown of thorns, the cause of which was my own proud and impure thoughts! Grand me the grace, I pray, of always resisting such wicked thoughts so that by doing so I may help to alleviate your grief

Most Faithful Woman, as you held the body of your beloved Son in your arms, you offered Him up to His heavenly Father in atonement for the sins of the world. I pray that the glorious fruit of His Passionthat is, our eternal salvation- may never be lost to me or negated through my sins

Hail Mary...

O Mary, before your Son was taken from your arms to be buried in the tomb, you tenderly affixed one last and infinitely loving kiss upon Him Grant that I may never be separated from your Son, especially during the hour of my death Although at that time my soul and body shall be separated from each other, may they never be separated from the love of Jesus and you!

SEPTET OF THE SEVENTH AND FINAL SORROW:

CHRIST IS PLACED IN HIS TOMB

THE SEVENTH SORROW of Mary, the gracious refuge of advocate for all sinners, was when she witnessed the body of Jesus enclosed within the silent darkness of the tomb

Most courageous and strong Woman, with sweeping waves of bitter grief, you were forcibly separated from the body of your beloved Son, and you saw this same dear body being enclosed in the darkness of the tomb May my own heart remain likewise firmly closed to all the wicked temptations and deceitful vanities of this passing world

Hail Mary...

Tearful Virgin, when your Son was placed in the tomb, you longed to be buried there with Him! Grant, I pray, that I may be buried with Christ in spirit and find my true life, not in the external world, but hidden in Him.

Hail Mary... III

Grieving Mother, you wept for the stubborn and cruel hardness of the hearts of the people, which you found reflected in the hardness of the stone from which your Son’s tomb was fashioned Soften the stoniness of my heart by your holy tears, that it may more readily receive the sacred body of Jesus

Hail Mary... IV

Sorrowful Maiden, amongst all your afflictions and tribulations you were left with Saint John as your unique source of consolation and protection. Grant that, in my devotion to you, I may serve and love you as your adopted son or daughter, just like the holy Saint John

Hail Mary...

Our Father... II I V

Gentle Virgin, when you at last departed from the tomb of Christ, you bore with you the bitter memory of every detail of your Son’s Passion and death Help me to carry in my heart the loving memory of your Son’s wounds at all times, and most especially during times of trial, temptation and tribulation

Mary, you were bereaved of your only-begotten Son, Whom you had witnessed undergoing much labor and suffering, both in His life and death, in order to turn people from their sins And yet, many of them remained obstinate and stubborn, refusing to hear His words or to receive HIs grace. May I never add to your sorrows by my own obstinance in sin or error, nor by my pride and stubornness.

Hail Mary...

VII VI

Mother most loving, through the Holy Spirit, you perceived in advance all that was to come until the end of time. Thus you saw clearly that many thousands of Christian souls, for whom your Son had shed His blood, would lose the fruit of His Passion-which is eternal salvation- through sin, infidelity and heresy. And this was to you a source of untold grief. May I never be amongst those who lose this glorious fruit of eternal life, but may I labor strenuously and constantly for my own salvation and for that of my neighbor

Hail Mary...

CLOSING PRAYERS

FOLLOWING THESE SEVEN septets, the Hail Mary is said three more times in memory of the tears shed by the Blessed Virgin.

O Mother most glorious and yet humble, through all the tears which you shed during the life of your divine Son, fain for us a spirit of profound humility against the evil spirit of pride.

Hail Mary...

O Mother most chaste and inviolate, through all the tears which you shed during the passion and death of your only-begotten Son, gain for us a spirit of purity against the unclean spirit of lust

Hail Mary...

O radiant Queen of Heaven, through the tears of joy which you shed after the Resurrection of your beloved Son, gain for us a spirit of unshakable faith and devotion against the inconstant and deceptive spirit of the world.

Hail Mary...

The Rosary of the Seven Sorrows of Mary is concluded with a recitation either of the Creed or of the Stabat Mater.
