StudioRacks MiniMaster Recording Studio Desk
The StudioRacks MiniMaster Recording Studio Desk is designed to provide a compact, flexible and stylish workstation that meets the needs of today’s music and media producers. The desk has black, lightly embossed polypropylene coated surfaces with striking exposed and contoured birch ply edges that highlight the sleek ergonomic design. The MiniMaster has a remarkably small footprint for recording studio furniture, and has been designed for maximum flexibility in a compact form. With a width of just under 2 meters, and an overall front-to-back depth of less than 900mm, it nevertheless provides lots of desk surface space. The desktop height is a comfortable 753mm. Yet all this provides you with up to 38u of rack space plus monitor shelves and room for a large screen monitor or two 19” screen monitors between the two monitor shelves. To each side of the desktop there is 4u of 19” racking, providing 8u of easily accessible space for your most frequently used rackmount equipment. The upper racks are angled in towards the central operating system and at a slight upward tilt, making the equipment within arm’s reach.

There is a further 30u of rackspace below the desktop – 15u each side. If you don’t need this amount of rackspace there is an option to increase the space beneath the desk by fitting 2u of under desk racking to one or both sides instead, leaving knee space beneath these units. Rack strips for both configurations are shipped with the desk. Rear rack strips to the lower racks provide more flexibility. While the lower part of the rear rack strips serve a structural function, the upper part is available to facilitate cable management tie bars and could be a useful place for rack mount power supplies.

Since 2004, StudioRacks has been designing and building custom and off-the-shelf studio furniture for industry, the public sector and individuals and have worked with some of the UK’s most respected studios and producers. The StudioRacks Black range of furniture has been developed using our in-depth understanding of the needs of professional and hobby studios, maximising productivity by optimising the use of space.
The monitor shelves above each desktop rack each measure 280mm deep x 541mm wide, ideal for many of the nearfield monitors in use today. Anticipating the use of isolation pads or iso stands, the monitor shelf is 120mm above the desktop, a total of 873mm from the floor.
In the centre of the desk between the desktop racks, there is sufficient clear desktop for one large screen monitor or two smaller 19” screen monitors.
It should be noted that the Iso-Acoustic stands for larger monitors – generally those with 7” and 8” speaker cones – will sit comfortably on the monitor shelf. If you prefer to have monitor stands behind the desk, the low height of the monitor shelves has a reduced obscuring/reflective effect on the sound. The design of the desk allows separate monitor stands to be brought in very close to the MiniMaster desk as the feet can take up the unoccupied space below the desk: a useful feature for those with limited space.
An optional screen shelf, which is available to order in either 1u or 2u height, provides a platform at the rear of the desk, allowing two larger screens to sit side by side and provides additional 19” rackspace below. If you choose the 1u shelf, bear in mind that your screen monitor stand needs to raise the screen by 55mm in order to clear the 4u racks on either side. If you choose the 2u monitor shelf, this lies level with the 4u racks on either side, providing a level bridge between the two.

Equipment Access The cleverly designed leg supports keep most of the rear of the equipment out of sight, whilst still allowing easy access to rear connections from either side. Alternatively, there is sufficient space below the central support panel (365mm) to access the rear of equipment from the central part of the desk. The 4u upper racks are open at the back. Even with the desk pushed against a wall it would be possible to view and access equipment connections.
Cable Runs Each side of the desk has two 60mm diameter cutouts to allow cable runs from any rack section to the other, and the central support panel allows cables running from the left to the right of the desk to be hidden. An optional cable tray can be fitted to the underside of the desktop or to the back of the central support panel to aid this.
