CAMBRIAN MOUNTAINS WOOL International Design & Make Challenge
GWLÂN MYNYDDOEDD CAMBRIA Her Ryngwladol Dylunio a Gwneud
THE CHALLENGE The Cambrian Mountains form a distinctive upland area of vast, unspoilt natural beauty that supports valued habitats and species. The region’s ways of farming date back to the Middle Ages, yet sound management of the Cambrian Mountains and their natural ecosystems has an important role to play in the face of today’s climate change. Wool is the Cambrian Mountain’s oldest, most versatile, natural and renewable resource. It has shaped the landscape, driven the economy and generated employment for entire communities. For centuries, the industry was the beating heart of Wales. An industrious hub of closely connected sheep farmers, spinners, weavers and makers turned locally farmed fleece into clothing and textiles that were sold throughout the world. Fortunes may have changed, but the passion and the skills remain. Today, the region is home to sheep farmers and to a wealth of creative people and businesses, all doing beautiful things with wool – as well as the stars of the piece, the sheep. Cambrian Mountains Wool products will reflect the ethos of the Cambrian Mountains Initiative – adding value to traditional farms, offering the highest quality local produce and reconnecting people to the natural world and the powerful heritage of Wales. A clear set of standards are in place which includes the specification that 100% of the wool used has been farmed in the region. Only wool products that are approved by the Group as meeting its standards will be allowed to carry the distinctive Mynyddoedd Cambrian Mountains label. After years of decline, there is a growing demand for, and interest in the potential of Cambrian Mountains wool. A range of commercial pressures, from ‘green consumer’ demands to new environmental ones. An aim of the wool project is to test the possibilities for purchasing raw Cambrian Mountains wool and to increase the visibility of Cambrian Mountain Wool by showcasing examples of products made with Cambrian Mountains wool demonstrating innovation.
YR HER Mae’r Mynyddoedd Cambria (DOLEN I FAP O’R ARDAL – YN DANGOS RHAN O GYMRU / A RHAN O’R DEYRNAS UNEDIG) yn cyfeirio at uwchdiroedd arbennig o harddwch naturiol eang lle ceir nifer o gynefinoedd a rhywogaethau gwerthfawr. Mae dulliau ffermio’r rhanbarth yn dyddio’n ôl i’r Oesoedd Canol, eto i gyd mae rheolaeth gadarn ac ecosystemau naturiol y Mynyddoedd Cambria yn chwarae rhan bwysig o safbwynt newid hinsawdd heddiw. Gwlân yw adnodd hynaf, naturiol, adnewyddadwy a mwyaf amlbwrpas y Mynyddoedd Cambria. Mae wedi ffurfio’r dirwedd, gyrru’r economi a chreu gwaith i gymunedau cyfan. Am ganrifoedd, roedd Cymru’n dibynnu ar y diwydiant. Arferai cnewyllyn agos o ffermwyr defaid, nyddwyr, gwehyddion a gwneuthurwyr droi gwlân defaid yr ardal yn ddillad a thecstilau a werthid drwy’r byd. Efallai bod y drefn wedi newid, ond erys y brwdfrydedd a’r sgiliau. Heddiw, mae’r rhanbarth yn gartref i ffermwyr defaid a nifer o bobl a busnesau creadigol, sy’n gwneud pethau hardd allan o wlân – yn ogystal â’r defaid eu hunain wrth gwrs. Bydd nwyddau o Wlân Mynyddoedd Cambria yn adlewyrchu ethos Menter Mynyddoedd Cambria – gan ychwanegu gwerth i ffermydd traddodiadol, cynnig cynnyrch lleol o’r safon uchaf ac ailgysylltu pobl â’r byd naturiol a threftadaeth rymus Cymru. Mae set glir o safonau wedi eu sefydlu sy’n cynnwys y fanyleb bod 100% o’r gwlân a ddefnyddir yn dod oddi wrth ddefaid yr ardal. Dim ond cynhyrchion gwlân sy’n cyrraedd safonau arbennig ac yn cael ei gymeradwyo gan y Grŵp fydd â’r hawl i arddangos label arbennig Mynyddoedd Cambria. Ar ôl blynyddoedd o ddirywiad, mae diddordeb a galw cynyddol am wlân Mynyddoedd Cambria. Daw hyn yn sgil pwysau masnachol, yn amrywio o ofynion ‘cwsmeriaid gwyrdd’ i rai amgylcheddol newydd. Nod y prosiect gwlân yw edrych beth yw’r posibiliadau ar gyfer prynu gwlân crai Mynyddoedd Cambria a rhoi mwy o amlygrwydd i Wlân Mynydd Cambria trwy arddangos enghreifftiau o gynhyrchion wedi eu gwneud o wlân Mynyddoedd Cambria sy’n dangos arloesedd.

EI UCHELDER BRENHINOL TYWYSOG CYMRU A’R DYFRLLIW BRENHINOL
HRH THE PRINCE OF WALES AND THE ROYAL WATERCOLOUR
Ysbrydolwyd Menter Mynyddoedd Cambrian gan Ei Fawrhydi Tywysog Cymru i roi cymorth i gynnal ffermydd a chymunedau ucheldir yng nghanol cefn gwlad Cymru.
The Cambrian Mountains Initiative was inspired by His Royal Highness, the Prince of Wales to help sustain upland farms and communities in the heart of rural Wales.
Mae’n hyrwyddo cynnyrch a sgiliau lleol, treftadaeth a thraddodiad, gan gefnogi economïau wrth ddiogelu eu hamgylchedd arbennig lleol.
It promotes local produce and skills, heritage and tradition, supporting local economies whilst protecting their very special environment of origin.
Dechreuodd Ei Uchelder Brenhinol Tywysog Cymru ymweld â Mynyddoedd Cambrian pan oedd yn fyfyriwr ym Mhrifysgol Cymru yn Aberystwyth yn 1969. Dewisodd yr olygfa hon ar gyfer paentio llun dyfrlliw o Gwm Berwyn ger Tregaron, sydd i’w weld o gopa Rhiwdywyll gyda Phantshiri ar y chwith a Chraig y Fintan ar y dde.
HRH The Prince of Wales first explored the Cambrian Mountains in 1969 when he was a student of Welsh at the University of Wales in Aberystwyth. For the watercolour used in the CMI brand, His Royal Highness selected the view of Cwm Berwyn (meaning ‘Berwyn Valley’) near Tregaron, seen from the top of Rhiwdywyll with Pantshiri on the left and Craig y Fintan on the right.
MYNYDDOEDD CAMBRIAN CAMBRIAN MOUNTAINS Mae ardal Mynyddoedd Cambrian yn un eang iawn o brydferthwch naturiol ddigyffwrdd, o ucheldiroedd nodedig i iseldiroedd ymylol, sy’n cynnal cynefinoedd a rhywogaethau gwerthfawr.
The Cambrian Mountains region is a vast area of unspoilt natural beauty, from distinctive uplands to marginal lowlands, that supports valued habitats and species.

Mae grŵp Gwlân Mynyddoedd Cambria yn rhan o’r Fenter – rydym yn grŵp o bobl sy’n rhannu’r un brwdfrydedd dros wlân a’n huchelgais yw rhannu’r hoffter arbennig hwn o Wlân Mynyddoedd Cambria. Rydym yn awyddus i aildanio’r cysylltiadau hanesyddol rhwng ffermwyr defaid lleol, rhai sy’n prosesu gwlân, dylunwyr, gwneuthurwyr a adwerthwyr, a hwyluso amrywiaeth o gynhyrchion cyfoes gwreiddiol wedi eu gwneud o wlân o ffermydd yr ardal, o dan label swyddogol Gwlân Mynyddoedd Cambria. Gwlân Mynyddoedd Cambrian Mountains Wool group is part of the Cambrian Mountains Initiative - we are a group of people united by our passion for wool and our ambition to share our love particularly of Cambrian Mountain Wool. We want to rekindle the historic links between local sheep farmers, wool processors, designers, makers and retailers, and facilitate a range of original contemporary wool products, from fleece farmed in the region, under an official Cambrian Mountains Wool label.
