Removing an old kitchen or bathroom is never much fun, but it’s a necessary part of the preinstallation. Personally, I always try and keep the customer away whilst doing this as no matter how house-proud they may be, or how meticulously they have cleaned for the last twenty years, there will always be grease down the side of the oven, and food debris in the nooks and crannies that they’ve not been able to see, let alone reach if they had. On occasions I’ve even seen a dead mouse or cockroach revealed which never goes down well with the householder!
These are just one or two of the things that will be dealt with when preparing for a new installation, others can be more serious, for example, if a leaking bath or shower has caused rot, or if other similar damage is revealed where the customer has to be consulted. But what about the previous installers work? I’ve yet to meet a fitter who cannot stop him or herself commenting on the things they discover (not in front of the customer, of course…?)
