We are so proud of the line up we have coming up over the next few months. With entertainment for everyone and a line up of top class shows and star acts, we think Its our best season to date!
By the time you read this we will have started the first steps of a major project which aims to look at how we future proof your Carnegie. We’ll be consulting with user groups, local authorities and, of course, you, our audience to find out what the building means to you and how you would like to see it funded and used. We hope these will be the first steps to major grant funding for the building, enhancing and protecting it for the generations to come. So look out for more news about this in the coming months. It is clear to us that many of our customers still don’t realise that the Carnegie is a charity and no longer local authority controlled. Whilst Allerdale do provide us with some funding, this is reducing every year by £15,000. Every penny we make in the theatre, the bar and in Café Carnegie, is ploughed back into making the Carnegie a vibrant entertainment and arts facility for West Cumbria. We are reliant on donations and grants and volunteer time to be able to do what we do and keep improving and growing it for you. Please speak to any of us here if you would like to get involved.
We are expanding our pre-show meals offer – rather than pre-booking we are going to open Café Carnegie on specific performances with a tailored specials menu each evening. Last food orders will be taken 45 minutes prior to the show start, giving you time to eat before enjoying the performance. Look out for more details of that within here and online.
Grab a cuppa and have yourself a good read through this, our biggest brochure to date – from Jack Dee to Count Arthur Strong, Bugsy Malone to The Cinder Path, Magic to Limehouse Lizzy, Hormonal Housewives to Hermans Hermits – we really are the home of great nights out in West Cumbria.
We look forward to welcoming you soon.

The Six Wives of Henry VIII is one of the world’s great stories: more far-fetched, sexy and violent than any tabloid or soap opera; darker and more disturbing than the legend of Bluebeard; both a great love story (or rather several) and a supreme political thriller. And, strangest of all, it is true. David Starkey, author of what has been described as the “best study of Henry VIII’s wives ever" published retells the story with his usual panache and in the light of the most recent research – much of it his own.

Funny things happen all the time. Normal events don’t catch the eye but Dave’s special radar instinctively draws him to the small out-of-the-ordinary events and conversations that wash over most of us and pass us by. Once identified, he applies his unique style of exaggerating and elaborating them whilst reminding us that we too have not only witnessed them, it’s probably happened to us! It’s this added dimension, this comedy of association that elevates the event to laugh-out-loud funny. No wonder Time Out magazine said of him, “Not only a very funny comedian but one of the finest raconteurs around.”
