The Carnegie offers a wide ranging programme of quality theatre, music, performance and culture. We’re home to our award winning Music Centre where young people and adults enjoy learning the art of musical instruments, singing and steel drums. The Carnegie is home to three talented amateur theatre groups and our many participatory classes range from learning to sing with the Carnegie Singers to learning the art of Karate with E.S.K.K Martial Arts. By day the beating heart is Cafe Carnegie where you can sit, relax and have conversation over food and drink. By night you can be sat in our beautiful theatre watching a quality show or participating in something totally unique.

Our café continues to be a beloved gathering spot for friends and families, including our four-legged friends! Well-behaved dogs are warmly welcomed. Please note our revised timings: the café now operates from 9am to 3pm, with last food orders taken at 2pm.
As a charity, we deeply value the amazing support of our volunteers. We extend our heartfelt appreciation to our dedicated team whose contributions are both invaluable and much appreciated.

Whether you’re meeting colleagues, taking a break from the grind, or catching up with friends, Café Carnegie is the ideal place. Join us for breakfasts, a light bite, lunch or perhaps something from our cake cart.
We’re one of the most accessible venues in Workington and offer baby changing facilities, free WiFi and, if you’ve got a dog, they will get looked after too!

THE CORAL: THE MAKING OF THE DEBUT ALBUM

The Coral are celebrating the 21th anniversary of their eponymous debut album. The record was described by NME as being the funniest and most refreshing British debut in years. In this intimate evening, singer and songwriter James Skelly will be joined by keyboardist Nick Power for an evening of conversation, audience questions and acoustic songs.

The UK’s leading Carpenters show, featuring the amazing voice of Maggie Nestor and eight top-class musicians, captures the sights and sounds of the amazing talents of Richard and Karen Carpenter.

This musical adaptation of the 2016 Disney animated film, brings the adventures of Moana and her village of Motunui to life onstage. Moana JR. features all the beloved songs from the film, written by Tony®, GRAMMY, Emmy, and Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Lin-Manuel Miranda, Opetaia Foa’i, and Mark Mancina, including “How Far I’ll Go,” “Shiny,” and “You’re Welcome.”
JOHN LYDON - I COULD BE WRONG, I COULD BE RIGHT

In his spoken word show, I Could Be Wrong, I Could Be Right, Lydon is touring the UK. He will talk about how he sees life, along with his unique and extraordinary career, and take audience questions during a pyrotechnic, oneoff tour. Lydon will be sharing his thoughts with audiences. There’s more to the Carnegie than just great shows. We also hire out our space to offer a range of interactive workshops, classes and activities for all ages and abilities. From weekly classes to special one off opportunities, there really is something for everyone.

The Carnegie Music Centre is a safe, welcoming and encouraging environment which seeks to inspire a love of creating music through participation in a range of musical experiences.
With lots of options to choose from - including guitar, piano, ukelele, steel drums and musical theatreparticipants can try out all sorts of instruments that they may not otherwise experience. And everyone will be able to take part in performances and cultural experiences in front of small audiences.
CHILDREN’S MUSIC CENTRE
Alongside developing the talent of children and young people our music centre gives the opportunity to participate in musical and cultural events, opportunities and experiences and attain recognised Arts Award qualifications.
ADULT MUSIC CENTRE
The centre welcomes adults with a range of musical ability to try out different instruments and develop new creative skills. Classes run every Monday from 19:30 during term time.
SUMMER SCHOOL
Open to all children from the ages of 8 to 18, Summer School is an opportunity to play music in a group and have a go on a variety of musical instruments.
STEEL DRUMS
If you love the sound of the Steel Pan, just like we do, then come along to our learner’s sessions to find out how to play. Our lessons are led by Claire in session blocks on Monday at 11am. Booking is essential.

LET’S ROCK THE 70S

This isn’t a tribute act – these super-talented musicians are Hazel O’Connor’s band! Their new show - “Let’s Rock the 70s” - presents the iconic rock songs that defined an era, celebrating the greatest decade of rock music. The Band’s fantastic live sound is mixed by Grammy Award winner Roger Lomas who, amongst others, produced Bad Manners, The Specials and toured with Roy Wood.
