Message from our chairman Welcome to our Autumn and Winter season brochure! We have an amazing season lined up to delight and entertain you and your friends and family. Whatever your interest there is a show lined up for you!

As most of you will already have seen, Retreat at the Carnegie is now open, serving daily specials, light lunches, a range of Bruce and Luke’s coffees and other hot beverages alongside cakes and scones, sweet treats and sandwiches. The café space has been transformed to a light, welcoming space and our catering partners are also able to cater for private functions, meetings and celebrations. If you are considering holding a party in the coming months, come and talk to one of our team who will be happy to show you around our spaces and make the arrangements for you.

Over the past three years the Carnegie Theatre Trust has been investing in our beautiful Grade II listed theatre & arts centre. We have replaced and repaired large wooden sash windows, installed a new kitchen, refurbished the café and studio spaces, removed asbestos from the building, repaired the stage lifting equipment, and continued to repair and upgrade facilities across the building. In total we have spent over £200,000 on this proud community asset. In view of this, and in line with many theatres and civic buildings across the country, we are introducing a Restoration Levy of £1.00 per ticket from 1st September, which will be ring-fenced and used to maintain the building to a high standard.

Our historic building requires significant and ongoing maintenance and renovation and this levy is a recognised means of raising the funds for organisations to be able to fund this essential work.

We have a fantastic team of volunteers who donate their time to us regularly and there are more opportunities for you to get involved too! If you have some time to spare and are interested in front of house stewarding, working on our kiosk or box office or helping us with poster and print distribution. Kilkenny city is famous for its long history of brewing fine IRISH ale and beer. The brewery may be gone, but the music plays on. The Kilkennys are the first group named after the beloved marble city.

Formed in 1997, Steps quickly became a global phenomenon and literally reshaped Brit-pop with a cavalcade of classic party anthems.

They are also the first band named after an Irish city in 50 years - since Luke Kelly and company started under the name The Dubliners. The Kilkennys, Ireland's newest balladeers come from a city steeped in music, history and folk culture. The band's following is growing internationally and their upward curve has been sure and steady. With passion and pride, The Kilkennys play old Irish folk songs and new songs of their own.

The Kilkenny have recently been named Ireland’s Most Successful International Folk Band.

Performed by five incredibly talented performers, this show faithfully recreates the iconic Steps dance routines with slick vocals and all the hits including One For Sorrow, Tragedy, Chain Reaction, Summer Of Love, Stomp, Dancing Queen, Deeper Shade of Blue, Say You’ll Be Mine, Better Best Forgotten, Last Thing On My Mind as well as tracks from their latest album, Tears on the Dancefloor, this is one show to get audiences on their feet and dancing in the aisles.

It is November 1917 and the Third Battle of Ypres is lurching towards its bloody conclusion. Young soldiers Will, Robbie and Jumbo are thrust into a landscape starkly different to the playing fields and estates of their Sunderland home. United by their childhood oath “nee killing, anly singing”, Robbie dreams their music will be a ticket away from the front, but attracting the attention of their commanding officers may prove more dangerous than bullets and gas.

The Muddy Choir tells the story of three soldiers serving with the Durham Light Infantry. Including traditional wartime songs, the play is about childhood friends growing up in unbearable circumstances and the humanising power of music.

This autumn sees one of BBC Strictly Come Dancing’s favourite professionals, Robin Windsor, head out on tour for the very last time! Robin has decided to hang up his dancing shoes after a long and successful career, and he can’t wait to flaunt his artistry for you one last time!

Inspired by the original tale, this production tells the story of Belle, a beautiful and intelligent young woman who feels out of place in her provincial French village.

Expect lots of amazing dance routines, fun, cheeky chat and plenty of sparkles in this incredible action packed extravaganza that reflects Robin’s energetic personality!

He will take you on a journey through his most memorable performances of his dance career with his team of professional dancers.

When her father is imprisoned in a mysterious castle, Belle’s attempt to rescue him leads to her capture by the Beast, a grisly and fearsome monster.

The only way the Beast may become human again is if he learns to love and be loved in return.

Will they confess their love for one another before it is too late?

Join our professional tutors for this brand new Modern Ballroom & Latin Sequence Dancing Class! Espeically designed for beggingers!

Over 50? Used to act or have always wanted to give it a go? We are starting a brand new drama group for people over 50, to develop old drama skills or learn new ones.

Please note these classes require groups of two due to the style of dance involved.

Starting Thursday 20th September, and running for 13 weeks. £65 per term, per person.

It took Michael Portillo little more than 10 years to get a seat in the Dan Snow, the BAFTA award winning historian and TV presenter, Commons and then rise in power and esteem to a point where he recounts anecdotes of memorable experience from his very was a favoured leader of his party and possible future PM. successful career, as both a historian and broadcaster.

Although his political career then came to a humiliating end, losing his seat in May 1997, Michael has since reinvented and endeared himself to many with his obvious respect for the solid workmanship found in the great railways of the world, the effect of the railways on the history of countries and the daily lives of their people.

Listen to his story, told with a “ parliamentary standup ”wit, and then feel free to question him about it.

Otherwise known as ‘The History Guy’ Dan will also be researching and including historical facts and stories relating to Workington, aided by the use of digital screens.

The show will be an undoubted success with academics, students, and families, both young and old.

The show will conclude with a 20 minutes Q&A.

Followed by a book signing.

Please note that the price of tickets detailed are for Box Office and telephone bookings only.

Tickets booked on the internet are subject to a small additional charge. These charges cover the administration costs for processing and handling associated with each ticket sale.

CONCESSIONS These vary per performance. Concessions are available for many events if you are under 16 or in full time education, registered disabled and senior citizens. Group bookings for 10 or more tickets may be entitled to a discount. Please note only one concession is applicable per booking.

POSTAGE All tickets may be sent by second class post for a charge of £1, except those booked seven days or fewer before the performance, which will be held at the Box Office for collection.
