This bulletin is produced by students of the Journalism class at Colegio Bolivar during the three days they attend the debates held by the CB MUN commissions. Their main job is to prepare a daily report of the commissions. The result of this exercise is published every day on the virtual portal called tribuweb and on the Model's web page. The young journalists also prepare interviews and opinion articles that gather different views and experiences of the participants, which can be found on tribuweb.

makes a powerful intervention on the hypocrisy of the countries that claim to be neutral, but in truth they are not and take sides at times. The delegate from France responds to the delegate from Palestine by saying that she feels that her integrity has been violated, however the table of presidents does not agree with her because the delegate from Palestine used parliamentary language. Faced with the accusations of the delegate from Palestine, the delegate from Saudi Arabia takes sides with the delegate from France, making an intervention in favor of her.

The Perpetual Rivalry of Capitalism and Communism Dana Lukauskis Gutiérrez

The United States delegate calls on all the delegations present to stop accusing each other and looking for the culprit and instead try to reach an agreement. The Palestinian delegate responds strongly by saying that the United States cannot speak of morality since it has demonstrated acts of terrorism by supporting Israel in various battles.

In today’s meeting, the tension between the delegates is heating up. There is a clear division between capitalism and communism among the nations of the committee, which, if it is not controlled, will have severe consequences for world peace. At the end of the previous meeting, Yugoslavia joined the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) as it was afraid of not having any strong allies as well as the increasing influence of the United States. As a result, Yugoslavia became a federal capitalist state. NATO sent anti-missile systems around the Mediterranean Sea to protect the area, especially Yugoslavia.

The United Kingdom delegate violently attacks Syria referring directly to the delegation, which is why the commission's representatives intervene and do not allow him to do so. He then questions the statements made by Saudi Arabia in the face of the conflict. The delegate of Saudi Arabia doesn’t respond.

_____________________________________________ The United States claimed that the missiles that the Soviet Union sent to Cuba were actually fake. This escalated quickly as the president of Cuba, Fidel Castro, was upset by such an accusation, so to prove his authority he sent a missile to Miami, killing 10,000 people. For that reason, the United States along with its allies (the United Kingdom and France) is going to declare war on Cuba. Additionally, they are willing to financially sanction whoever decides to support their new enemy.

At the beginning of today’s meeting, the delegate of the Soviet Union was kidnapped. The delegate of Cuba insisted that the kidnappers were Americans due to the current conflict. The United States, however, pointed out that the kidnappers spoke Spanish, which is the native language of Cuba. However, USSR kept insisting it had been Americans, and various “right to reply” were given as the nations became offended by each other’s accusations.

On top of that, East Germany and West Germany united as one nation, meaning there are now independent of the United States and the Soviet Union but will be maintaining a friendly and peaceful relationship with both, and are planning to knock down the Berlin Wall.

The tension between France and its alliance delegates, and the Islamic Republic and its alliance delegates, increases when the Yassifier was introduced. The Yassifier was a possible solution towards the immigration crisis, climate change, and overpopulation in the world. The Yassifier is an alliance between the Islamic Republic, Russia, and Saudi Arabia. France for obvious reasons made interventions and questions towards the alliance.

El día de ayer finalizó con una crisis donde apareció el rumor de que el Cartel de Cali había secuestrado a Samper.

Hoy comenzaron con un tiempo de lobby de 40 minutos donde se dividieron en dos bloques (el 1.1 y el 1.2) para trabajar en los comunicados de prensa acerca del proceso 8,000. El primer comunicado de prensa presentado por Cesar Gaviria y Santiago Medina fue el del bloque 1.1 (en contra de Samper). En este expresaron que se encontraban indignados por la negligencia del proceso 8,000 y que en el comunicado iban a sugerir propuestas para asegurarle la verdad al pueblo colombiano.

Para lograrlo, exigieron que el presidente Samper renuncie a su cargo, debe someterse a una investigación, el Cartel de Cali debe ser sancionado monetariamente por sus actos de lesa humanidad, defender a los testigos por medio del CTI, entre otras propuestas.

Además declararon que el dinero que entró a la campaña proveniente del Cartel de Cali, se utilizaría para donar a diversas fundaciones del país, y por último solicitaron la destrucción de los narcocasetes.

Este tema finalizó con la llegada de un Juez de la Corte Suprema que, después de mirar y analizar pruebas irrefutables, definió que el Cartel de Cali es un grupo narcotraficante, declaró culpables a Santiago Medina y Fernando Botero que eran los encargados del dinero de la campaña de Samper y por ende conocedores del financiamiento ilegal.

Con estas sentencias, miembros de la fiscalía procedieron a arrestar al líder del Cartel de Cali, al señor Santiago Medina y al señor Fernando Botero.

Tienen un tiempo de lobby de aproximadamente una hora para investigar sobre la posición de su personaje sobre los diferentes temas.

El juez también declaró que después de analizar las pruebas, pudo concluir que Samper desconocía la entrada de dinero ilegal para su campaña y por ende es inocente de las acusaciones hechas en su contra. Por esta sentencia, dejaron intervenir a Santiago Medina (tesorero de Samper) que declaró que Samper no es inocente y que no puede quedar impune.

Después de esta intervención, el juez declaró el tema finalizado.

The leaders were divided into those who support Chritianity, those who support Islam and those who insist that regardless of what beliefs each person has, they must be tolerated. However, the conflict between Christians (Jesus Christ, Pope Urban II, Donald Trump, etc) and Muslims (Saladin, Osama bin Laden, etc) extended pretty quickly as the leaders blamed each others’ religion for the massive killings of innocent individuals in the past historical events. For that reason, the Christians and Muslims kept calling each other “blind” for not sharing their same beliefs.

Second day, delegates continue to defend their positions while trying to find a solution to cyber wars. Todays topic includes technology advances and technological development, hacking, nuclear plants, etc. All common themes between todays society.

It is time for the leaders to settle down, let go of the unfortunate events that happened in the past and focus on the present in order to have a better future in which the common good thrives. The leaders must keep in mind the value of human beings, how each and every single person can have different beliefs and how that must not only be tolerated, but most importantly, respected to finally live in a society where diversity is embraced.

UNCSTD or United Nations Commission on science and technology for development gathers information on todays news such as the Russia and Ukraine war a topic that will affect not only the well-being of many people but also have high impact on economy around the world. Delegates such as United States of America, Elon Musk and Russia will be the leaders of the debate while our presidents: Rosario Corranza and Antonia Tascon try to moderate the intense conversation other delegates have created.

The room fills with tension while the debate starts to heat up. Pallets and voices start rising while trying to maintain a conversation. After a while of tension both presidents decide it’s time to give the room lobby time. Every delegate takes a deep breath while gathering their thoughts and will use this time to prepare for the next topic.

_____________________________________________ With tired eyes the room waits for the clock to strike 1:00 pm. As the debate comes to an end delegates and presidents are ready to go to lunch. Finally, a delegate brave enough raises their pallet waiting for approval in order to finish the debate.

WHO (the World Health Organization), founded in 1948, is the United Nations agency that connects nations, partners and people to promote health, keep the world safe and serve the vulnerable with the objective that everyone, everywhere can obtain the highest level of health. WHO leads the worldwide efforts to expand universal health coverage, by directing and coordinating the world’s response to health emergencies and promoting healthier lives.

The topic that they are talking about currently in this commision is the use of biological weapons. Countries like Lybia and its allies are in favor of biological weapons, while on the contrary countries like the United States and its allies (most of the delegates in the commission) are against the use of biological weapons. In yesterday’s debate one of the most tense moments was when the delegate of North Korea mentioned their consideration of sending biological weapons to the United States. This caused the United States to threaten to declare a war against North Korea, but the war was never officially declared.

After an already tense debate, a crisis was declared. The crisis was basically that to take “revenge” on China for causing the pandemic of COVID-19, the United States had created an epidemic of smallpox that was only meant to affect China but it ended up spreading globally.

After they debated this crisis, they proceeded to enter lobby time to create their draft resolutions. To create them they were divided into two blocks: block 1.1 (United States and its allies) and block 1.2 (Libya and its allies).

_____________________________________________ In the draft resolution 1.1, presented by the delegates of the United States and Israel, they express their concern for the scarcity of health programs in many of the countries around the world and therefore encourage the other delegations to create health programs.

They also commit to provide aid to those nations affected by the smallpox disease and they encourage delegations who have used biological weapons to pay economic sanctions, among other things.

The first solution the delegation proposed was that each region must first solve their internal issues, otherwise any other collective solution wouldn't be effective. EU: Consider the possibility of legalizing cocaine in some countries, reducing crimes, safer cities, enhanced public health.

In the draft resolution 1.2, Libya and its allies, demand reparations for the damage done by the smallpox epidemic, encourage investigations for this same epidemic, designate the WHO to generate a team to supervise the fund (created to help with the consequences of the epidemic), create more health systems and institutions, and invites other nations to create resources to have a better defense against biological sources among other things.

Trading routes (Belize, Nigeria, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, Mexico): Reinforce maritime and celestial security, employ ethical police officers.

This intervention caused commotion within the commission and the Dominican Republic delegation manifested their dissatisfaction with the Colombian and United States’s solution.

With this intervention, the debate time was finished and the chair proposed a lobby time for the remaining time of the session to commence resolution paper writing.

The delegation was divided into two main blocks. One of them was formed by the following delegations: Mexico, UK, Russia, Belize, China, Nigeria and El Salvador. In which they plan to present Nigeria’s solutions mentioned above in this article.

The other block formed is as follows: Colombia, United States, Guatemala, Panama, Peru, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic and Bolivia. They plan to present Colombia’s and USA’s joint solutions of attacking the major exporter and importer of cocaine (USA and Colombia), as well as reinforce borders so that nothing can go in or out and eradicating coca leaf plantations.

After Nigeria’s solutions, the Delegation of Colombia and the Delegation of the United States presented their joint solution: “For this problem we plan to reinforce all borders. The delegations present know that this has already been tried, but the delegations present will make sure this time it will work. With economic and military aid from delegations such as the US, borders will be strongly enforced, they will be background checked and will be strongly monitored for no political dishonesty. This will also be applied to coast guards and navy.”

The resolution paper reading began with Draft resolution 1.1. The heads of the block being the United States of America, Republic of Colombia and sponsors: Republic of Guatemala, Republic of Panamá, Republic of Perú, Puerto Rico, Plurinational State of Bolivia, The Dominican Republic.

There were friendly written amendments by the UK for this draft resolution and contained no other points of information by a delegate. However, the chair had a point of information regarding point number 7. “Endorses military interventions to seek and capture illegal groups to avoid actions of such trades,” asking what

Thus, different blocks were formed, where the different delegations were divided, bringing together those that shared ideals. Block 1 was made up of delegations of: Ethiopia, Sudan, Japan, China and the United States; while block 2 had the participation of delegations like Eritrea, Israel, Iran, Russia, Cuba and North Korea.

The session began with the reading of draft resolution 1.2 and it was unfortunately determined ineligible for voting, as 6 amendments were found.

After this, the motion to vote was in session.

To start, the table gave the instructions for the first session of the day.

The presidents, Gabriela Alvarez and Elisa Brenes, opened the session by referring to the beginning of a formal debate within the commission, since the ideals of each delegation and their points of view would be better expressed this way. Delegates were also given the option to start an informal debate first and then continue with the formal one, however, when making the motions, all the delegates agreed that the first option would be appropriate. Next, there was time for lobbying so that the delegates could agree on their arguments and therefore execute them with greater planning. The list of speakers who will discuss on behalf of their blocks was also made, and the suggestion of starting the resolution papers was made.

With 8 votes in favor, draft resolution 1.1 passed and with this the 1st topic ended.

Second Session: The de-escalation of the Ethiopian-Sudan border conflict Natalia Hijuelos

The second session of The Disarmament and International Security Committee on Thursday, May 5, 2022 continued with the theme of the de-escalation of the Ethiopian-Sudan border conflict. Again, the delegations were enthusiastic about participating in the commission and defending the issue. During this session, the delegates were focused on returning to

_____________________________________________ After 20 minutes have elapsed and the lobbying time has ended, the instructions would be for the delegations to begin presenting their solutions to the issue of the de-escalation of the Ethiopian-Sudan border conflict.

Following protocol, the table asked the delegations who wanted to use the floor, and the delegate from North Korea was recognized. The delegation gave its contribution in a tone of indignation, referring to the fact that the appropriate solution was not to divide the territory in half. The delegate from North Korea said: “Imagine having to give what is part of your land to other countries. How would that be the solution? Imagine if any of these delegations had to do that. Dividing the land half-and-half? No."

After many interventions and moments of great debate between the commision, the session ended, finally finding a solution to the problem of the de-escalation of the Ethiopian-Sudan border conflict. This being the case and the first topic already closed, the commission will continue in the next session to address the next topic, the outlawing of the advancement, production and storage of biological weapons and destructive toxins.

The second day of the CBMUN model, May 5, 2022, was one full of success and satisfaction, with great contributions from each of the delegations where the first objective of the commission of The Disarmament and International Security Committee (DISEC) was fulfilled.

Continuing the debate, other different delegations intervened. The delegate from Israel stated that the delegation was in agreement with the solutions of block 1, but conditioning some modifications. On the other hand, the delegate from the United Kingdom made reference to the fact that he also supported the solutions proposed by block 1.

Likewise, the delegation from Sudan argued that a way had to be found to de-escalate the border conflict that had cost the lives of many civilians of the two nations, and highlighted how block 2 went against this, violating human rights and promoting violence, being that it seemed outrageous how some delegations believed that this was the correct way to address the problem; demonstrating how block 1 would bring the Ethiopian and Sudanese delegations to peace, and end the problem, allowing for equality between the delegations.

Today, Thursday, May 5, 2022, the second day of the Human Rights Council (HRC) commission take place. The commission satisfactorily fulfilled the goals proposed for the first day, and during this session it continues with the discussion of the first topic: Human Rights of Migrant workers. The commission is the second made up solely of Lower School, 6-8 grade students, and is led by two students who have come from Manizales

_____________________________________________ specifically for the CBMUN model, Isabella Giraldo and Sara Guzmán, from Colegio Granadino. The commission has delegations such as: Chile, China, Colombia, France, India, North Korea, United Kingdom, United States and among others.

The day began by returning to the main theme, the rights of migrant workers.

Being the theme quite broad, the table decided to divide the debate into two blocks. Regarding this, block 1 highlighted that emigrants did not necessarily have to migrate, instead, it was necessary to create laws that would promote patriotism and invite citizens to stay in their native country. On the other hand, block 2 ensured that this was not an effective solution, and then proposed to create laws that would ensure that those migrant citizens would be asserted their human rights.

Being the majority of the delegates “rookies” which means that this was their first model, most of the contributions were of position, and there were not many interventions attacking the other delegations. Even so, there were many contributions of these great interventions that made the commission dynamic and entertaining.

Expect Bulletin No. 3 Tomorrow May 6, 2022

Following this dynamic, with delegated contributions wanting to create new laws, or promoting great solutions, the day ended. It was a moment of great learning for all, the delegates and the presidents. The day of the second day of the Human Rights Council (HRC) commission ends successfully, and the second topic will be continued tomorrow.
