Este boletín es elaborado por estudiantes de la clase de Periodismo del Colegio Bolívar. Durante las tres jornadas ellos asisten a los debates que sostienen las comisiones de CB MUN. Su principal trabajo consiste en elaborar un reporte diario de las comisiones. El resultado de dicho ejercicio se publica cada día en el portal virtual llamado tribuweb y en la página del Modelo. Los jóvenes periodistas también elaboran entrevistas y artículos de opinión que recogen distintas miradas y experiencias de los participantes, pueden encontrar dicha información en tribuweb.

The debate begins with opening speeches.

Each delegate takes advantage of their 45 seconds to give an opening to what their country thinks about the crisis relating to the conflict in Israel and the Middle East.

The delegate who follows him is from Palestine making a passionate intervention, explaining how his people have been cruel victims of the war between Israel and Palestinians. Today’s meeting of the United Nations is set on an afternoon in October of 1961. The members, representing diverse countries around the world, are present in order to solve the “Standoff at Checkpoint Charlie” and allow Berlin to recover. The current conflict is due to the tanks from the United States and from the Soviet Union on both sides of the Berlin Wall.

The meeting began with the delegates presenting their opening speeches in which they stated that this tension between the Soviet Union and the United States should be resolved immediately. Even if each of the members agree that it is preferable to solve this conflict peaceably, delegates such as the United Kingdom, United States, and France are willing to unite against the Soviet Union if necessary.

There was an incoming crisis that the president of Italy, Giovanni Gronchi, is promoting “an opening to the left in Italian politics,” basically implying that communism should be replacing the political regimen from the right. The Italians captured some CIA agents, which revealed that the United States has been giving 20 million dollars to anti-communism movements in Italy to prevent the Communist Party from obtaining power. The Soviet Union, repulsed by the United States’ actions, decided to unite with Cuba, carrying over 100 medium and long-range tactical weapons to Cuba, which is extremely close to the United States’ territory. example, the delegate from The United Kingdom raises awareness of the sense of solidarity that countries around the world should take into account when a crisis is happening.

The conflict of today’s commission started due to the delegations being unable to decide who started the armed conflict between the borders of Berlin. Delegates need to stop threatening each other, accusing each other of brainwashing their citizens, put their differences in ideologies aside, and settle down to get to a solution from which everyone benefits from it.

After all, prioritizing the innocent lives that are suffering in order to maintain global peace should be the delegates’ main concern instead of intimidating each other and causing a new world war to break out.

The Chinese delegate intervened saying the importance of talking about climate change and overpopulation instead of focusing on which religion is better to follow for human beings. The delegate from Japan changes the subject to high tide levels due to its geographical location in the world. He tells us how the number of tsunamis have affected his population.

The delegates have 10 minutes of lobby to discuss and join with their countries of choice. Then they ask for an informal debate. France starts by intervening with an accusation towards the Islamic republic, questioning him for sending troops to France’s borders.

The French delegate makes an intervention criticizing and disrespecting other religions that were part of several delegates present. Samper y las tensiones alrededor del proceso 8,000

La comisión empezó con los discursos de apertura de cada uno de los delegados en donde estos daban su posición frente al tema. Entre los miembros de la comisión se encuentran políticos, periodistas, figuras importantes involucradas en el proceso 8,000, los carteles de Cali y Medellín, entre otros.

Por esta razón la comisión se divide entre los líderes que apoyan y defienden al político Ernesto Samper y los que están en contra de este.

La comisión de COMCOL es una comisión creada por el Modelo de las Naciones Unidas con el objetivo de resolver las problemáticas de la República de Colombia de carácter político, económico y social. La comisión y lo discutido en esta, está basado en la Constitución Política de 1991 y los temas presentados deben ser temas a nivel nacional que pueden ser tanto pasados, presentes y futuros. Es la primera comisión del modelo organizado en Colegio Bolívar en ser hablada en Español.

Todos los líderes intervinieron en el debate informal que se realizó después de los discursos de apertura y se notó mucha tensión entre Samper, Alberto Giraldo, Cesar Gaviria y el Cartel de Cali.

El debate finalizó con mucha tensión entre estos líderes y se realizó un tiempo de lobby por 20 minutos.

En esta ocasión la comisión empezó con el primer tema a discutir: el proceso 8,000. El proceso 8,000 es el nombre que se le da a la investigación de los eventos relacionados con la campaña presidencial del señor Ernesto Samper en 1994, la cual aparentemente fue financiada por el narcotráfico colombiano (por el Cartel de Cali). Hasta el año 1994, se sabía que el narcotráfico estaba involucrado en diversas campañas políticas, pero sólo en 1995 salieron a la luz los “narcocasetes”, por los cuales se originó el proceso 8,000.

Los delegados católicos se opusieron rotundamente a las anteriores propuestas.

Durante la jornada hubo una crisis en la que fue retenido el papa Francisco, hubo amenazas en contra de su vida como estrategia de presión para conseguir que se restrinjan el número de hijos por familia, permitiéndoles tener uno solo.

The debate finally starts. 10:30 AM. The room fills with excitement while suits and ties are fixed hoping to not get dress coded. The presidents raise their voices as they wait for a brave delegate to start the debate. Five seconds later the delegate of South Africa raises their pallet and starts a fresh conversation where students are ready to defend their position in orden to win awards such as best delegate or rookie.

_____________________________________________ States raises their pallet. As the presidents gave permission to state his opening statement he prepared to delivered one of the best speeches ever made. Moving around stage, turning lights on and off while stating a point and talking loud and clear the room was left awed. Delegate of the United States made his point notice as every other delegate wishes to do.

La delegación de Israel se enfocó en presentar propuestas para atender la salud, no tanto en el problema sino en soluciones para países con problemas económicos que no logran tener una importante cobertura en salud.

As the clock strikes 12:00 pm, delegates finish their statements, presidents organize their ultimate notes and press takes the last picture, everybody in the room was ready for lunch. Delegates raises their pallets to end the debate and class was dismissed.

El debate, que estuvo muy movido, llegó a la conclusión de que es necesario elaborar un plan de seguro médico para los países con pocos recursos; además resaltaron la necesidad de implementar políticas anticorrupción.

_____________________________________________ The agenda of today was opened with the motion to begin reading opening speeches and the order was decided by the honorable chair. Every delegation recognized that cocaine trafficking is a global problem and they are willing to find a concrete solution.

The delegation of Colombia expresses that Latin American delegations recognize this problem, not as the United States seems to make it. The delegation of Peru expresses their total agreement with the Colombian delegation and confirms cocaine trafficking is a practice that has negatively affected every socio-economic aspect of their country.

The reading of the opening speeches culminated with Russia and the delegates making a motion to begin an unmoderated caucus for 38 minutes which passed with no objections. After this, the delegation of the Dominican Republic stated their radical position on the cocaine trafficking problem. They stated that they by no means will tolerate drug trafficking and rather seek help from other nations. In response to this, the delegation of The United States stated they consider it imperative that the delegation knows that they have spent over a trillion dollars in aid to countries such as the Dominican Republic.

Afterward, the delegation of the Dominican Republic doesn’t recognize the United State’s proclamation of aid and insists that this aid has not been enough, as it was given to the government and that cocaine trafficking is a practice made behind their back.

The United States, being the largest consumer of cocaine, manifested that all the violence derived from trafficking is the Latin American countries’ fault and will keep providing monetary aid but shouldn't.

Delegations forming blocks during lobby time Point of information from Colombia to the delegation of the United States regarding supply and demand of cocaine.

Motion to have a formal debate was passed and the delegation of the United States once again expressed their non-conformity with the Dominican Republic’s arguments and invites the delegation to stop blaming the U.S for their high poverty and violence rates, also states that they shouldn't be in this commission if they are not going to propose any solutions.

After this moderated caucus, the chair was entertaining motions, the UK motioned to have a lobby time, and the US to continue with the unmoderated caucus until lunchtime. The lobby time motion passed for only 15 minutes.

In response, the delegation of the Dominican Republic is merely defending its country.

They manifest their first solution which is to install an organization formed by the Latin American country’s block and security council countries where they report each week a status regarding the social and economic aspects of cocaine trafficking.

Expect to see more solutions in tomorrow’s report.

Subsequently, the debate begins, where the points of each delegation regarding the issue of the conflict begin to be presented. Mainly, the position and the dispute between Sudan and Ethiopia are highlighted, where a situation is exposed where Ethiopia accuses Sudan of invading its territory and taking advantage of the security vacuum created by its armed confrontation with the Tigray People's Liberation Front in the north.

On Wednesday, May 4, 2022, the activities of the CBMUN model were resumed, after a long year in virtual reality.

The DISEC commission, which refers to The Disarmament and International Security Committee, is part of today's model. The commission is made up of the Lower School, students from 6th to 8th grade, and led by the presidents of the 12th grade of Colegio Bolívar, Elisa Brenes and Gabriela Alvarez. Thus, the commission had different delegations from around the world, including: Ethiopia, Sudan, North Korea, Cuba, Iran, South Africa, Syria, Russia, Japan, Iraq, Israel, Canada, France, Germany, Turkey , United Kingdom, Iraq and among others. Clearly highlighting the leading participation of the two African delegations explicitly involved in the conflict, Ethiopia and Sudan.

The delegation refers to third parties, such as the delegation of Egypt, that are allegedly fueling the dispute.

Egypt and Sudan recently signed a military cooperation agreement that reportedly includes a common defense pact. The Sudanese delegate said that delegations like the one from Ethiopia are expanding their farmland into Sudan with the support of local militia, whom they accuse of being responsible for the death of civilians.

The topic to be discussed during the day would be the de-escalation of the Ethiopian-Sudan border conflict, which refers to the potential border war brewing between these two countries. Bearing this in mind, the session begins with the orders

_____________________________________________ Neither side appears ready to back down, partly because both are beholden to key domestic constitutions averse to compromise, where it is highlighted how this is a war without any basis, since neither of the two protagonists can finance it.

Thus, after a time of great interventions, the session ends due to time, implying that the debate on this issue has not yet ended, and will continue on the next day. Today, May 4, 2022 was a successful one, full of great contributions, intense moments and strong arguments that impacted each of the delegations in the commission of The Disarmament and International Security Committee (DISEC).
