Keyuties!

May was a very successful month for Carlmont Key Club, on both a club and division level. Key Clubbers volunteered for community events such as San Carlos Hometown Days (read more on pg. 10) and the Cipriani Talent Show (read more on pg. 14) while board members attended division events such as the Annual CNH Governor visit and the D34C Officer Training Conference behind the scenes.

The theme of this month’s newsletter is centered around the transition from spring to summer! For this theme, I incorporated a total of 14 suns into the newsletter - can you find them all?

As we end school and start to jump into summer events like the Belmont Summer Concert Series, we are also excited to reintroduce Zoom events, so you can earn hours from anywhere with Wi-Fi!

Even though school is out, we want to stay key-nected to you! The board encourages you to continue attending events and enjoy your summer :)

Hey
Lizzie Cruz

Hi Key Clubbers!

During the month of May, we helped out at local event in our community, including the Trinity Preschool Ice Cream Social, San Carlos’s annual Hometown Days event, and the Cipriani Talent Show.

We also got involved on the division level, with several members attending Division 34’s Key Club’s Got Talent show and the D34C Officer Training Conference. Our next training event will be the Key Club Training Conference on June 29th, which I highly recommend everyone attend, as it qualifies for several MRP categories and is a great way to expand your involvement above the club level.

Thank you to everyone who attended our last club meeting of the school year, or any of the service events we hosted in May! I know it’s a busy time with finals and AP testing, so I really appreciate your commitment to Key Club. I hope you will continue to stay active in the club over the summer by attending our monthly Zoom club meetings and service events, both online and in-person!

spotlight on service program

WHAT IS SOSP?

SOSP stands for Spotlight on Service Program. Every month, we have a different organization that we direct our service projects towards.

In order to promote the CNH (California, Nevada, Hawaii) district goals of service, CNH focuses on a different theme for service each month! By fundraising, volunteering, and hosting events, clubs are able to support and participate in the CNH Spotlight on Service Program Focus.

Mental Wellness

In the month of May, we partnered with Erika’s Lighthouses whose mission is to ensure that no ung person feels alone while struggling with ntal health. We held crafting events to relax d focus on our mental health, such as Send a Smile Today and Arts for Little Hearts!

OWN DAYS OS HOME SAN CAR

13 volunteers for 47 92 hours

The San Carlos Hometown Days event was on Saturday, May 18th, and Sunday, May 19th. The event was about setting up the Key Club booth and selling water and other drinks! The first part of the event was setting up the tent to sell drinks, and the different parts were selling the drinks and raising money for San Carlos Kiwanis' adult and youth activity programs. The last part was putting the tent away and packing up. The other volunteers and I set up the tent for Key Club and unpacked the water and drinks into coolers. We also put up signs and sat at the booth to sell drinks to the people at the event.

Bookmarks for Liberation Library was an event that took place on Saturday, May 25. At this event, attendees made fun, vibrant bookmarks to send to the library. The event coordinator brought several colorful sheets of paper, markers, colored pencils, and other art tools so that we could all have many options to choose from when it came to our bookmark designs. It was a very relaxed event, taking place in a local library. We worked quietly for the most part, but at the end of the event, we got to take a photo with all our bookmarks, and it was fun seeing all the bookmarks laid out next to each other. Overall, this was a very fun and calm event, and it was a great event to attend after weeks of AP testing.

The Send a Smile Today event on Saturday, May 25th, was a fun and creative way to support cancer patients. We wrote uplifting messages and drew colorful illustrations on cards for patients going through their diagnosis, treatment, and survivorship. After making a total of 16 cards, we mailed them to the Send A Smile Today organization. During the event, we got to know each other better and worked together to decide on fitting designs for the cards and what to write. I felt that it was a very creative and collaborative process, and I hope that our cards brighten the recipients' days up a little more!
