KEY CLUB PLEDGE

Hi Keyuties!

This month’s newsletter is ice cream themed for summer! If you look at the Board Contacts page at the end of the newsletter, you can see that each line represents a different flavor of ice cream. Can you guess each flavor? Email me to find out the answer!

July was a super cool month, and our Key Clubbers stayed very active over the summer! We had different types of events kept us connected, whether they were in person like Music in the Park (read more on pg. 08) or on zoom like Card Making for Hospitalized Kids (read more on pg. 10)!

With August coming soon, the Carlmont Key Club board is super excited to come back to school and get back to our regular routines! We can’t wait to see you at the first club meeting of the year on Thursday, August 22nd!

Surfing the waves of service, Lizzie Cruz 2024-2025 Newsletter Editor 813439@seq.org

Lizzie Cruz

Hey everyone!

I hope you had a good summer! Thank you so much for staying active in the club in July and participating in service events even while on vacation.

In July, we continued our recurring Music in the Park and Summer Concert Series events, which were a huge success. We also hosted a few Zoom events so members could earn service hours from anywhere, which all had high attendance. Additionally, we hosted our first interclub with our sister school, San Mateo, and had our second virtual summer club meeting.

In August, we will be returning to our weekly club meetings in D-12 at lunch. Our first meeting will be on August 22nd, and we will have food, prizes, trivia, and more, so don’t forget to stop by! Make sure to also visit our booth at Freshmen Orientation and Clubs Fair to enter raffles and support the club.

Thank you all again for your support this summer! We’re looking forward to starting the new school year strong with more service events and more members. See you soon!

spotlight on service program

WHAT IS SOSP?

SOSP stands for Spotlight on Service Program. Every month, we have a different organization that we direct our service projects towards.

In order to promote the CNH (California, Nevada, Hawaii) district goals of service, CNH focuses on a different theme for service each month! By fundraising, volunteering, and hosting events, clubs are able to support and participate in the CNH Spotlight on Service Program Focus.

Bee Clean, CNH!

Throughout the month of July, we have been working to keep our community clean through various events. Some events from this month that align with the SOSP are the post 4th of July Cleanup, the recurring Summer Concert Series, the Pacific Beach Coalition Cleanup, and the recurring Music in the Park events, where Key Clubbers helped clean up the area.

12th I attended Music in the Park which Burton Park in San Carlos. At this event, s live music that people listened to while dinner, and it was just a chill community ng. At the event, I helped sweep wood way from the sidewalks to beautify the d another member helped pick up trash. on, we wheeled out recycling, compost, ash bins so that the public could easily s them. Overall, it was very fun seeing dly faces in the community as well as to pop music along with everyone else. ely recommend this event to others; it kly event throughout the summer, and un reaching out to the community. ticle written by Lindsay Wong, ‘25

Cards for Hospitalized Kids event on Tuesday, July 16th, was a heartwarming experience to write encouraging letters to hospitalized kids. In this event, We made supportive cards, as many as we could for hospitalized kids. We designed the front of the card with cute characters like minions and Mickey Mouse and wrote hopeful messages inside. The fact that we could actually cheer up the kids with some paper cards made us work hard! This event will remain in our minds as a touching episode.

The Origami Cranes for the 7/20 memorial were to contribute origami cranes so the organization could make a big wreath out of all of them. This event had us make origami cranes. We learned how to make them and made many. I thought the event was very relaxing and nice, as we just got to sit in our own homes and have fun making origami. I made a lot of cranes and got to learn how to make them as well.

On Sunday morning, July 21st the Pacific Beach Coalition Cleanup took place. The event took place in Foster City at the Bay Trail on Beach Park Blvd. Throughout the event, key clubbers picked up trash around the Bay Trail which consisted of plastic bags, bottles, cans, cardboard, cigarette butts, etc. After filling our buckets, the trash got sorted into different recycling categories, cigarette butts, and regular trash. I really appreciated the fact that the litter we collected got sorted because it is just another way we can do our part in saving the planet and living sustainably. In general, the event was fun, as we got to enjoy time out in the community while helping to beautify the area and help the Earth. I recommend other Key Clubbers attend the PBC cleanup because there are so many positives to participating, and materials are provided for those who need them.

D34C JULYDCM

The D34C July DCM was held at Beresford Park in San Mateo. There were so many people from over five different high schools, making it the highest attended DCM so far. The DLT held a bake sale fundraiser where they sold sleeping puff pastry bears, cookies, brownies, and other handmade baked goods. For the service event, we learned how to make chevron friendship bracelets. This helped bring our division together because Key Clubbers from different schools met by teaching each other how to make the bracelets! Article written by Lizzie Cruz, ‘25
