KEY CLUB MISSION

Key Club is an international student-led organization which provides its members with opportunities to provide service, build character and develop leadership.

KEY CLUB PLEDGE

I pledge, on my honor, to uphold the objects of Key Club International; to build my home, school and community; to serve my nation and God; and to combat all forces which tend to undermine these institutions.

Hey Keyuties!

I hope everyone enjoyed their June and is staying cool in this summer heat ☺ I’ve had a lot of fun attending events this month like Summer Movie Night (read more on pg. 17) and the Region 17 Key Club Training Conference (read more on pg. 19). Find events to sign up for on our July SignUp Genius!

If you’re going on vacation this month, not to worry! We have two zoom events this month on July 8th (Writing cards for St. Jude patients) and on July 15th! (Origami cranes for 7/20 Memorial).

If you’re here for the summer, I encourage you to get involved at the division level! The Kiwanis DCM is coming up on July 17th at Second Harvest of Silicon Valley in San Jose, and it will also serve as our July Interclub since there’s a service event following dinner (which is provided!). The D34C DCM is shortly after on July 21st (find more info on pg. 27) and we hope to see you there!

Hey Key Clubbers!

I hope you’re all having a great summer so far! I really appreciate all of your hard work in June at our service events. Thanks to you, Carlmont is currently in first place for both Silver Coins and service hours in our division!

In June, we had some of our biggest events of the year, including the San Carlos Community Pasta & Bingo Night and the San Carlos Kiwanis’ Luau Fundraiser. We also helped out at the recurring Belmont Summer Concert Series, held our end-of-the-year social, and sent nine Key Clubbers to the annual Region 17 Key Club Training Conference.

A great way to stay active in the club over the summer and stay healthy is to turn on Charity Miles and earn service hours for every minute you spend exercising (you can find more information about this on the monthly events sign-up). Charity Miles donates $0.10-$0.25 to UNICEF for every mile biked, ran, or walked.

In July, we will be hosting more Zoom events so it’s easier for club members to continue earning service hours over the summer. Don’t forget to attend our next summer club meeting, held over Zoom on July 28th at 6pm!

spotlight on service program

WHAT IS SOSP?

SOSP stands for Spotlight on Service Program. Every month, we have a different organization that we direct our service projects towards.

In order to promote the CNH (California, Nevada, Hawaii) district goals of service, CNH focuses on a different theme for service each month! By fundraising, volunteering, and hosting events, clubs are able to support and participate in the CNH Spotlight on Service Program Focus.

Health & Safety

In the month of June, we partnered with the Pediatric Trauma Program that raises funds to provide resources to prevent injuries and deaths caused by pediatric trauma and Children’s Miracle Network that raises funds and awareness for children’s hospitals. Our club will host a Cranes for Cure event that correlates with this SOSP! We also collected donations from San Carlos Pasta & Bingo Night that we will use to benefit PTP.

At the San Carlos Community Pasta Bingo Night, we helped serve pasta and side dishes to the elderly at the San Carlos Communit Center. We also helped set up the bingo game for the elderly after the event ended and we passed out bingo cards for them. We ended up satisfying lots of the people there with our service and overall had a great time helping out. The club received a $365 donation towards PTP, from the guests who were very appreciative of our service. We even got to eat some delicious pasta after helping out and it was amazing! I absolutely recommend this event to other Key Clubbers who want to have a fun time and enjoy some savory food!

7 volunteers for 25.25 hours

The San Carlos Kiwanis' Luau Fundraiser event took place on Sunday, June 2nd, and helped fundraise for Kiwanis through both live and silent auctions while providing entertainment through Hawaiian-themed performances including singing, dancing, and playing ukuleles! Key Clubbers attending the event helped to manage the live auction by recording the winning bids and delivering slips for them to pay with, as well as copying and displaying the winners for the silent auction. We also helped deliver prizes to the winners of the raffle. Afterward, we helped clean up by clearing tables and taking down decorations. This event was a super fun way to help out, as we got to see the performances and partake in the delicious buffet dinner while also helping ensure everything ran smoothly. It was so amazing to see so many members of the community come together to support Kiwanis, and to be able to help them have a great time. I would definitely do this event again next year, and would highly recommend it to other Key Clubbers!

club updates, and gave division updates. 3 other members and I were able to listen to and observe the Kiwanians during their meeting. During attendance, us members counted as guests for the San Carlos Kiwanis club and were asked to introduce ourselves. Then, an SLP jar was passed around for Kiwanians to add money to, and we received $78 in donations for our club. Listening to the Kiwanians was very hel because I learned more about our organization in general as well as ways I can be a more active member. It was nice to attend an event beyond Key Club, and it was great getting to meet Kiwanians who put so much effort into helping our community thrive.

CONCERTSERIES

12 volunteers for 43.08 hours over 3 weeks

Every Sunday in June and July, there are different bands that are able to perform at Twin Pines Park called the Summer Concert Series. The first one was held on Sunday, June 16th where Pride and Joy performed alongside dancing and food. At this event, I helped in the concession stand. I helped prep, package, and sell popcorn with other Key Clubbers and helpers as part of the Summer Concert Series. I had a really enjoyable time at this event since I was able to listen to great music while talking to great people. It was really cool to see how our community was able to gather for one thing and enjoy one another's company. I think this is a great event to go to for the summer especially since there are so many opportunities!

The Belmont Summer Concert Series is a recurring event this summer offering music to the community. As volunteers, we provided concessions to attendees. At the event, we made popcorn to sell and helped with the set up and cleanup. We also collected donations to help run the event in the future! We sold over 30 bags of popcorn, an improvement from the previous week! I loved being able to listen to music and having a fun environment around when I was selling popcorn! I will definitely attend again and recommend the event to others!

On Saturday, June 22nd Key Clubbers met at the Belmont Library to do an Arts For Little Hearts event. Arts For Little Hearts is an organization that accepts many types of crafts such as drawings, cards, sewn crafts, origami, clay sculptures, etc. The crafts are then distributed to hospitalized children all over the world. Most members made origami flowers, animals such as bears, frogs, cranes, etcetera, or made uplifting drawings. I had a lot of fun making a variety of origami with different colored papers or patterns, as well as different animals or flowers. Lastly, knowing that my crafts can cheer up a kid on a hard day gives me hope and makes me very happy ☺

SAN CARLOS MOVIE NIGHT

The San Carlos Community Movie Night event on Saturday, June 22nd was a fun way of bonding with our community while passing out snacks and watching a movie. During the event we set up a snack table and passed out free snacks to everyone watching the movie. We also directed people to the sponsor’s booth, Xfinity, where they had other free things. This was a very fun event because we got to help our community while having fun and watching a movie. It was one of my favorite events and I would definitely recommend it to other Key Clubbers.

The Cranes for a Cure event on June 29th was an amazing way to take action in helping organizations in donating to those in need. At this event, I, alongside other Key Clubbers, created an assortment of origami cranes ranging in size and color. I really enjoy origami so this event was especially enjoyable for me as it was a great way to destress and socialize especially since it’s summer now. I love the events at the library since they’re so convenient!

RENCE TRAINING CONFE KEY CLUB

Key Club Training Conference (KCTC) is an event where Key Clubbers from all over the Bay learn more about Key Club through fun workshops, activities, service, and more! There are 17 regions in the Cal-Nev-Ha District, and our region (R17) is made up of 7 divisions!

For more information about KCTC, read the 2024 KCTC Booklet created by the LTG’s!

The Key Club Training Conference on Saturday, June 29th at Independence High School was a super special event that allowed students across several Key Club divisions to gather for workshops, service, and more! This year’s theme was Royals in Wonderland. At this event, we got to learn more about the Key Leader program from a guest speaker. We also had the opportunity to participate in Round Robin workshops regarding individual Key Club leadership roles and more. The experience was incredibly special, as I got to meet so many members of the Key Club community! It’s an event that is very representative of Key Club’s amazing network and mission, so I highly recommend it for other Key Clubbers to attend in the future!
