Hello and welcome to our first issue of the Career Connect newsletter for 2024!

As we all begin the new year, I would like to invite us to consider seizing every opportunity to venture into new heights and make this year even better than it was last year.

At Career Connect we have started the year with a bang with a number of events rolled out for all SIM students such as the Career Connect Roadshow, the mega DREAMS Career & Internship Fair, followed shortly by the EMBARK Virtual Internship Fair. We were excited by the huge turnout for these events and if you missed them, we have included writeups in this issue to recap the highlights. Besides these we also had a number of Career/Industry Talks by our industry partners such as Uniqlo and IRAS which we will also highlight in this issue.

In the months ahead we will be rolling out new workshops, for example, Confidence & Personal Presence and may others. Look out for our announcements and sign up to learn new skills that will help you stand out among the crowd. For those who have yet to get on board our CareerSense app, now you have even more reasons to do so as we have added new enhancements and features that would make navigating towards your career aspirations even easier! ROADSHOW CAREER CONNECT 2024

Career Connect hosted a dynamic two-day Roadshow on 14 and 15 February, themed “Love Through Time”. The event showcased an array of engaging activities and complimentary snacks, leaving students well-informed of the upcoming DREAMS Career & Internship Fair 2024

By combining educational elements with nostalgic fun, the event not only captured students' attention but also provided a memorable experience. The roadshow successfully concluded with over 200 students, contributing to the high attendance rate at the subsequent DREAMS Career & Internship Fair, which saw over 1200 attendees. On the 23rd of February, Career Connect’s annual DREAMS Career & Internship Fair 2024 was a success, garnering over 1200 participants. With more than 50 participating companies, there were chances for participants to land jobs and internship opportunities. Some participating companies include UOB, IRAS, CNB, NTUC, NCS and many more.

Participants had the opportunity to network with employers and gain valuable insights across different industries. This has helped participants in their journey of career preparation and better understand what employers seek for in prospective candidates.

I enjoyed going to DREAMS Career & Internship Fair 2024 as I managed to network with various employers. DREAMS 2024 was different from those I have attended in previous years as there were uniformed organisations such as SPS, CNB, SPF. It was interesting to talk to these coys as it was a different insight from various companies from usual industries like Banking or Technology. I also enjoyed networking with other employers to learn more about their available roles and programmes. It was good to hear from candidates of various Associate Programmes offered by the company to know what they have went through, the selection process and how they feel about the Programme.

Whether you are looking for a full-time job/ internship, this is an opportunity to network with others, put yourself out there and understand the job market better.

It was an invaluable networking opportunity, guiding my understanding of the professional world and informing my future job search criteria. Confidence and Personal Presence Workshop

TRAINER: CHRISTIANCHUA

Christian Chua is a Certified Speaking Professional (CSP) with over 20 years of experience. Found him familiar? He has made appearances on major television channels like BBC and CNA.

As a SIM alumnus, he conducts careerpreparation workshops for SIM students exclusively, teaching students how to express themselves confidently in the workplace through body language, critical thinking, and professional responses to challenging situations.

The presenter was confident in his materials, and it was very enjoyable. The four hours felt like two hours.

IRAS Tech Networking

JIURU YU UNIVERSITY OF LONDON, DATA SCIENCE AND BUSINESS ANALYTICS

56 students gathered at the recent IRAS Networking Session, where they had the privilege to connect with IRAS Senior Management and HR Personnel 3 of our tech students had the opportunity to showcase relevant courses and their skill development opportunities in SIM This exclusive event offered invaluable insights straight from industry experts, shedding light on the exciting career paths available at IRAS

Attendees had the chance to explore a range of opportunities, including roles as Software Engineers, Business Analysts, and much more! They also gained insights directly from the HR Personnel learning about recruitment processes. It was a unique opportunity to not just learn about these roles but also to envision a dynamic future with IRAS.

Uniqlo Career Talk

The UNIQLO's Career Talk was a resounding success, with 26 attendees benefiting from an insightful exploration of UNIQLO's Business Strategies and their renowned UNIQLO Manager Candidate (UMC) Programme for developing future business leaders. The UMC Programme involves job rotation to train candidates in basic associate functions and management skills, preparing them the expertise and experience necessary to operate a successful store business

The event also featured engaging icebreaker games that not only entertained the students but also awarded them with exciting prizes from UNIQLO, adding a touch of fun and camaraderie to the learning experience.
